The points you get during the game? They don't add on xp or credits do they? If so they don't add on very much as I've finished matches with 20k points and I've finished with 10k still get same xp and credits?

It gives you an idea how well your character does in respect to other characters. In a game with a closely geared/leveled people if it is dramatically lower than others' chances are you are missing an important mechanics. If they are reasonably close, chances are you are aware f a few reasons why.
