So I'm only a few hours into the new ME. I'm beginning as a biotic because I had so much fun with biotics, especially biotic explosions in ME3. However, I immediately noticed the sound effect for the new biotic explosion is so wimpy and utterly unsatisfying, compared to that of ME3. It detonates with a tiny squeak rather than the reverberating boom from before. Has anyone else got the same vibe? At least for me it makes being a biotic a lot less.. I hesitate to say fun, but less satisfying for sure. Then again I'm only beginning. Do the powers maybe make up for it? Any chance this is something Bioware might patch one day?
P.S., yes I know this is an incredibly minor thing compared to all the other problems people are voicing about MEA, but I still wanted to see what other people think about this.

I feel the same way too. I felt that melee suffered the same fate too. Melee doesn't have that crunch or punchy sound effect that ME3 had, especially when comparing the Krogan melee attacks in the multiplayer of both ME3 and MEA.

I remember the first time I heard the Krogan Warhammer hit the ground in ME3. I shit myself and turned around, expecting something to be behind me getting ready to kill me instantly.

BioWare should rethink their copy-paste philosophy and do it with the sound effects, not animations.

How can this be so different if the same studio was making it? How could they make it worse? They copied pretty much most of the rest well enough.
The only sound effect I did like was when my omni blade hits a metal, or a rock - sounds really realistic, but I can't say for biotic explosions yet. Cryo/shatter sound is not as loud and spicy as it was in ME3 as well, didn't really notice it.
Sound design was really something great in ME3 that I loved very much, I hope they didn't screw this up.

MEA wasn't made by the same studio.. MEA was made by bioware montreal (this is their first full game they've made ever.. prior to this they made The Omega DLC and the multiplayer component of ME3)... ME1-3 were made by bioware edmonton (who are now working on a new IP entirely).

Agreeing here, old sounds were generally better, clear and more indicative - I actually prefer ME3 gameplay a little, too. :/

As a stand-alone sound, yeah the original was better. But with the way explosions chain in this one (I modded my armor for detonations), the original just might have been too much ooomph goodness.

False (at least partially); ME3 MP was made by Edmonton, but it's true they probably didn't do the main sound design for abilities. But they still added DLC stuff like Krogan Warlord and Collector later, and all of that sounds authenthic to the rest of the ME3, so my concern is still valid, why would it be so different now.

Design choice. They wanted Biotics to be more subtle.
Anyway, the abilities seem fine but the Biotic Combos are a bit quiet I agree.
