One of the things I liked about ME3 was that some classes could be played pretty much without ever using guns, even on insanity difficulty in single player. Helped people like me to compensate for poor aim and poor 'twitch' skills. Can you do that in MEA, or is pretty much all down to gun play now?

Nope. Lots of Biotic and Tech skills you can use from range for damage, CC, and "summoning". Profiles allow you to mix it up without screwing yourself over.

It will be extremely slow and tedious to play the start without guns. You powers are on long cooldowns. Later on it may well be viable.

May I suggest too the Kett Vakarsh? It's a melee weapon which prime target for fire combos and does fire damage over time...

You don't need guns, but keep in mind we only have three active skills now.
I ran out of ammo while I was out questing and started using only Incinerate, Energy Drain, and Charge. I was actually fine for a while until I ran into an ammo crate.

You can still use a lot of powers but as always, mixing powers with guns is always going to be more effective than entirely ignoring one or the other. There will be times where you're waiting on cooldowns which feel overall a bit higher this time around compared to ME3, but in return the individual cooldowns are back.
Playing on insanity in SP as an Adept most of the starter guns hit like a wet noodle anyway.

I'm talking about whatever power you start the game with based on your background. Just using Throw, Energy Drain, Biotic Charge, or I think Overload, is not feasible at the start of the game. Even once you get 3 powers you will be massively slower than if you use guns.

Or it's just sponges as enemies' pools the higher you go with difficulty?

Though the basic mooks don't really feel super tanky as much as my Avenger, Charger, and Predator just did an embarrassingly small amount of damage. My biotics and other guns I've since crafted all do just fine.

Feels like I am getting half xp on Insanity, it is pretty damn tedious.
Starting the game powers only seems like it wouldn't be all that practical, especially since you only have Playskool control of squadmates. But I started with a "soldier" more or less, so...

I am over 5 hours into the game and there has never been any mention of any powers whatsoever so I have no clue as to wtf you're rambling on about. Wouldn't the developers explain you had powers if you did? What are you even talking about!

Use heat seeking plasma guns, they don't need much aim.
