I mean, when the Collector Base is about to be destroyed/purged and Harbinger says the Collector General failed?
Everytime I finished the game I feel sorry for him.

Not really. It's more of a mercy given what the Reapers did to the Protheans.

Yeah, there is a twinge of sorrow there. He seems confused by it all. In some respects though, I think he's been given a moment of freedom.... of not being a slave to the Reapers before dying.

I've always thought the same way too. The way the Collector looks (hatefully?) up at Harbinger, then back towards the explosion coming towards him, it's like he finally feels free but damned.
It makes me feel sorry for him every time I see it, like the Collectors were more than just husks, they still had their own thoughts and self awareness but were trapped by Harbinger's control over them.

Don't care. Too bad my Shepard didn't have a giant fly swatter to kill the bug.

Remember when you kill a husk or a Collector, it is a mercy kill. For there is no known true cure for indoctrination outside of death.

Killing any of the enemies is merely war and survival. They shoot at me, I shoot back... reflex.

It was more a case of being reminded of how remorseless and ruthless the Reapers are. Everyone they indoctrinate is just a tool to be used and discarded when they are no longer of use. I was just that much more determined to beat them.

Yeah, I did feel a tiny bit bad. The General had this look like, "Daddy?" What's more is that those few seconds before the explosion might have been the only time it ever had a thought of its own. Imagine spending your entire life feeling safe and protected in the hands of someone stronger than you, only to have it taken away seconds before you die. I'm also with gervaise21 It was as stark reminder of how the Reapers manulipate and discard any tool that they deem fit. My Shep was also more determined to see things through after that.
