My build:
Against Collectors, I retrain powers and go:
I'm playing on Veteran (Hardcore and Insanity are too difficult for me in ME2, and I wanted to play freezing enemies, and with all those protections it makes too hard)
Mordin was always on my team so I could freeze many targets as I want.
My other teammate was:
In Loyalty missions I left Mordin on Normandy and brought with me the teammate with the proper Ammo power.
Chose Armor Piercing Ammo as starting bonus power to have an edge on damage output until I got Squad ammo from teammates. Then I traded for Flashbang grenade.
Used Jacob (Incendiary ammo against Krogan and Vorcha) and Zaeed (Disruptor Ammo against Blue Suns) in Mordin recruiting mission
Used Mordin and Zaeed in Garrus recruiting mission. Leave Zaeed behind and got Mordin to close the shutters and fight the Blood Pack.
Went on Horizon with Mordin and Grunt.
My core gameplay was to strip defenses with weapons, freeze with Cryo Ammo and finish the enemies with weapons again.
Started using Avalanche but later I realized that was the reverse of my core game play, so I changed for Arc Projector instead.
Chose Sniper rifle as weapon training. I found very hard to hit a target without time dilation passive from the Infiltrator class. I chose Viper so it wouldn't be such a problem to miss a shot or two.
I chose the strategy to get to Collector Ship as fast as I could without doing any foot combat missions, to play with the Sniper rifle as much as I can, so I did the 4 recruiting missions (Mordin, Garrus, Jack and Grunt), went to Horizon, did some Firewalker/Normandy Crash site missions, did Jack Loyalty mission (to get Warp Ammo) and then went to Collector Ship. I had to use Incisor in that mission. After that I went to recruit Thane to get the Viper.
I had the problem that the triangle (PS3) is mapped by default to Combat Drone and you can't change it. I could only change it after Horizon by retraining powers. By doing that, I could start assigning points to Overload and then triangle is automatically assigned to that power. You have to assign the powers in a mission. Put the points, leave the pause menu, and go to the powers menu to see the button assigned to that power. Then you can assign the other powers.
Unfortunately you can't use this technique to assign the triangle button to your bonus powers. I wanted to go with Flashbang, Incinerate and Cryo Blast mapped in the control buttons against the Collectors but it's impossible.
On Arrival, I used Armor piercing ammo again to have more damage. I needed an ammo power since I was going alone without help from any Squad ammo from teammates.
In Lair of Shadow Broker I went with Mordin and Zaeed and later with Zaeed. The Disruptor ammo gave me an edge against Shadow Broker. Didn't need warp ammo against the Asari boss in the Azure hotel.
- Area Overload (4)
- Incineration Blast (4)
- Combat Drone (2) (Just to unlock Cryo Blast)
- Full Cryo Blast (4)
- AI Hacking (0)
- Demolisher (4)
- Flashbang Grenade (3) (As an anti-barrier power, and debuff as well. Didn't go with Reave because I like to stay close to lore, and choose only Tech oriented powers)

- Overload (3)
- Incineration Blast (4)
- Combat Drone (2) (Just to unlock Cryo Blase)

- Frag Grenade (4)

My other teammate was:
- Against Geth, Blue Suns and Mechs: Zaeed (Squad disruptor ammo)
- Against Eclipse and Collectors: Jack (Squad Warp ammo). Against the shields of the Eclipse engineers I was using my Overload, shotguns and submachine guns.
- Against Krogan: Grunt (Squad Incendiary Ammo)
- Against Scions and Oculus: Garrus (Squad Armor Piercing Ammo)
- Against Husks and Varren: Thane (Squad Shredder Ammo)
