So i thought i would start up a thread to discuss where the writing actually works, and is well amazing. I haven't beaten the game yet, but a few things really stuck out to me.
Port Kadara - The atmosphere, dialogue and quests here are really good, reminds me a lot of Omega and i just know Mac Walters wrote this. Things like these he does the best.
Aya and the Angara - Whether you like their design or not, they are quite Interesting. Nice setup for the culture bit. You get to know their religion, laws and how they act in war. Just walking around their city and talking to npc's was well done. Every conversation mattered, and built upon the setting. Great way to introduce a new race and really flesh them out.
The Nexus - Not the first time you visit, but after you settle on Eos and the Nexus opens up it has lots of stuff going on. You get to talk to a bunch of NPC's that are just there to add more to the setting. Every time i am there i go to visit the prison cell and there is a new situation playing out, and it adds so much to the setting and it feels like things actually happen while you are out doing your thing.
The world - The world building in this game deserves a heap of praise, in my opinion. The conversations as you pass someone by, the datapads adding flavour on flavour. Many of the quests, even the fetch stuff adds to the setting in a meaningful way. Its all great and i love it that they nailed that bit.
Thats what i got so far, most of it is world building, but it deserves to be mentioned. Interested in what you think, am i right? or way off mark?

There's constant reminders that I don't want Mac Walters to quit or be forced out of the franchise, just put to a less primary role but one he can still offer a lot on. Personally, I hope that this game, in being 'creative director' on it, is more him slowly handing off reigns of things to the future gen, who will be getting their first huge critical response with MEA and shape up in time. Anyway, I like Ryder. I always thought the writing for Shepard was flawed and I think the same for Ryder, but I like Ryder more as a character and how they regard and respond to the MEU - except for how I can't be particularly ethical or unethical as them. Sidequest spoiler: You meet ex-Cerberus scientists and a lot of the mission, other than it being so minor and to the side, is okay. Except you can't seem to do crap to the ex-Cerberus scientists themselves. Why? WHY? Is this just a flub, or do the writers really think Ryder would just let... this ride? That they're *this* passive? I haven't played too much, but I liked the initial exploration of the Eos Settlement 1 or whatever. I can see it dragging on for those weak on maintaining attention, but I did everything I thought I could in it and I loved the atmosphere and the story bits within. Where I was iffy on it before, stuff like this actually triggered empathy for the colonists and a care to make things better ASAP.
