Well it just worked the same way the Mass Relays work in the game. It created a corridor through which objects (including photons) could move much faster than in "normal space", thereby allowing telescopes to see light coming from Andromeda in the very near past instead of 2.5 million year old past. They don't specify the time delay, but they do call it "contemporary", so we can assume the time delay is very minimal. According to the wiki..."Mass relays function by creating a virtually mass-free "corridor" of space-time between each other." Since light doesn't have any mass the geth telescope smells suspiciously space magicky to me. Aside the fact that you sometimes need a target relay and sometimes not... I'll stick with space magic.
