Everyone is getting uptight about how the golden worlds have changed in the 600 years since they left the Milky Way. They looked at the worlds 600 years ago, but something happened during the journey.
Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away. Any golden worlds you found were already 2.5 million year older by the time you got there. 600 years is meaningless.
I know, I should just let it go *gnashes teeth*

Apparently they looked at them through some sort of mass effect telescope which reduces the mass of light waves to....ok, yeah it's better to ignore the science.

Apparently they looked at them through some sort of mass effect telescope which reduces the mass of light waves to....ok, yeah it's better to ignore the science. Well it just worked the same way the Mass Relays work in the game. It created a corridor through which objects (including photons) could move much faster than in "normal space", thereby allowing telescopes to see light coming from Andromeda in the very near past instead of 2.5 million year old past. They don't specify the time delay, but they do call it "contemporary", so we can assume the time delay is very minimal.

Since light doesn't have any mass the geth telescope smells suspiciously space magicky to me.

Geth solution.
At least they tried explaining this so I'm happy.
I don't care how insane some things might look, as long as the devs try to explain why things work the way they work.

Since light doesn't have any mass the geth telescope smells suspiciously space magicky to me. This is probably true. Photons are...weird though, behaving both as a particle and a wave. There are actually credible scientists that think that closer to the big bang that the speed of light was higher, because of how quickly the universe expanded something something something I don't remember it all. They even postulate that there could be corridors through space in which light travels faster than it does most other places in the universe. I'm not saying this is accepted by the majority of scientists, but these aren't crackpots by any means. It could be that the Mass Relays work slightly differently than how the Milky Way species assume they do, as they have yet to recreate one (except the Protheans). Sooo...while it's probably sci-fi BS, it's no more sci-fi BS than the whole foundation of Mass Effect, Element Zero.

Suvi I think, which is way too late, since the 600 year thing is one of the first things a new player hears. Also, the relay sends things away from it, it doesnt pull things to it. There is no relay in Andromeda to send photons with, so the whole thing doesnt make sense. What happened to the rest of that light in the corridor? You know, all 2,5 million years worth? Its annoying because the devs seem to think the players are dumb.

I think many people complaining about the science in this game would have their minds explode if they ever watched an episode of Doctor Who.

Plus, if the geth thought of this, why wouldn't they have spied on other relays? Sol, Thessia, Sur'kesh, Tuchanka, etc. Wouldn't that make more sense then, I dunno, looking at someplace you'll probably never go? Or rather, spied on other planets?

Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away, but the trip didn't take 2.5 million light years, it took 600 years, so the galaxy and planets are 600 years older Yeah, it was only 600 years older. But he also got a point, if you observe Andromeda with normal means, you'll see Andromeda galaxy from 2.5 million years ago.. This way, if you arrive in Andromeda using FTL and arrive after 600 years, you'll reach Andromeda 2.500.600 years after it was being observed. Except this is ME:A, maybe there's a way to observe something without relying on light speed. FTL observation, maybe?

There's a thing called "suspension of disbelief." The entire foundation of the MEverse (element zero and the mass reducing/increasing properties thereof) are pure bupkis. However, for the universe to have any sort of logical consistency, this is a premise that must be accepted as "in game fact." Eezo exists, and has the properties the game says it does, no matter how space-magicky it is. And from this we get the Mass Relays, and everything else.
The Geth then did some space magicky stuff to a relay, and turned it into an FTL telescope. It's not too far of a stretch (given that we've already accepted eezo et al) to think that this might be possible with that technology, so it doesn't really strain the suspension of disbelief any further...unless you have already decided it's hooey. *Shrug* Up to you. But I wouldn't let a little something like this dampen my enjoyment of the game. It just is what it is.

I thought this was going to be the line that Cora says "Wow, its like we're walking on air" or something as you cross a physical stone bridge.
I literally hit pause, opened Origin chat and complained to a few friends that were online.
