For some reason I didn't get the game on launch, which I should have if only the trial hadn't given me mixed feelings . However of course I still have plans to get the game at a later time , the question now is, does the multiplayer have region-locked matchmaking? Or the same way as in ME3MP? Also how do you folks think about the "promotion" thing? Does it work the same way as in DA:I MP?

You'll usually be matched with people from your area but it's possible to be matched with people from other countries for a very enjoyably laggy game

No and no.
There is no region lock and actually, lag has been greatly improved IMO. I just played 3 games on my host (East coast US) with people from Brazil, Finland, and Canada, yes, all, in the same game. The lag was there but it was playable. I also played on some hosts in Latin America and Europe and it were mostly OKish, similar to ME3. I've seen worst cases in the US, when all players are from the same area. Was insanely lagging on a host in Pennsylvania which is 100 miles away from me and other people were from Eastern US. Something strange is going on with network protocol but it is not region-related or even distance-related. I wish someone at Bioware investigates it and patches this bs.
Also, it takes awfully long to get to level 20, so promotion and releveling is going to be tedious at best. It is not needed for bonus stats since you continue to get experience even after reaching level 20. Respec cards are quite easy to get from packs and can be bought with mission funds.

Thanks for the input! That sounds promising, laggy games are better than no games anyway. Maybe Andromeda MP still has hope to flourish similar to ME3MP when BioWare fixed those bugs, if they ever will.
I wonder if there's a soft cap/diminishing returns on promotion/XP stack bonus, so the game will still be skill-based(mostly) instead of promoting to glory?

No more promotion lording is intended.

Yes, this is my experience too. The game tries to match you with lower ping times, but it is not locked in any way. I was afraid of pre-ordering MEA for this reason as well, because region lock was one of the (many) reasons DA:I MP failed miserably: when the game couldn't find a match in your region it created an empty lobby (and obviously nobody ever joined). I'm playing since launch and I'm yet to experience bad lag

I don't think there is region lock implemented, because I was matched with Americans and had enjoyable game. At least Biower was honest on that department.
