After playing the game a bit more, and ignoring the UI and animation issues, I found that the game was so tedious and boring. Then I realized I was playing the game wrong, because I have a habit of doing 100% completionist in all my games.
Side quest, by that I mean the 'additional task' is so numerous and so spread out in geography that they constantly breaks the flow.
My advice for the players who hasn't advanced too far is to just ignore them. Do them for the xp but only between quests. Don't be like me and try to do them at the same time as doing the major missions, you might think you are saving time but it will ruin the experience for you. I
You have no idea how many times I forgot what I was doing on a planet after getting distracted by locating data pads and crates

Nah, I only avoid the additional tasks, if I happen to stumble on then, I will do it, if not, it's material for post critical path game. The actual sidequests are fine, and some have quite the twist, much better than DAI's. The loyalty missions, tho... Holy frak. The best in the series.

I You have no idea how many times I forgot what I was doing on a planet after getting distracted by locating data pads and crates It was the same problem in DAI. Eventually some dev would suggest to leave the friggin Hinterlands. What worked out well for me is (e.g. in Skyrim) looking at map or getting to vista point and determine places I want to visit and plan rather a trip than quest checklist. On the way I would collect all kinds of stuff and finish quests on the way. What's not on the itinery gets ignored. Eventually I'd revisit a place, do a tour of fame to collect humble servitude from NPC or visit another spot I haven't been before. As long as locations are interesting I don't mind straying off the path. It's stuff like shards collection and jump and run level design that grates on me.

I got into the habit of 100% completionist cause games usually award you somehow with going through the everything. This and DAI is where I had to undo that habit, doing everything decreases the fun, I suppose BioWare has succeed in simulating how boring and tedious real life can be.

Yeah, both DAI and MEA seem to have this problem. Personally I think MEA has done a somewhat better job with side quests than DAI though.

I'm finding that there is a pretty distinct difference between the types of quests. At first glance, the journal seems cumbersome and silly, but as Andrew Lucas above me reference, the "additional tasks" are the mundane fetch quests for the most part. Side quests and loyalty quests on the other hand are actually very fun and interesting (in my opinion obviously).
With that in mind, i'm ignoring the additional tasks for the most part but still focusing on side quests that fall under a different header/category. Like "nexus" for example with the first "finding a murderer" quest. THat quest was actually fun and interesting, and definitely not a simple fetch quest.

I'm dodging most of them and the story is flowing reasonably well.
Like a super powered ME1.
My advice is the same don't bother with them.
