Unfortunately, that's not the way it worked in ME3 in terms of 255

In ME3 once you max those out you just get more Rail Amps and Cryo Ammos instead. It doesn't make you get more Rares.
Still it's a good trick because Rail Amp IIIs are good to have.

I haven't completed my 256 in ME3 yet... My life time goal.
Summary: Cryo, armor-piercing & disruptor maxed, incendiary is around 200. I only have 60 cyclonics left...
Does anyone have IV ammo / gear in MEA yet?

If it makes you feel any better, that never actually worked. Someone else had previously made a comment about this and was posting for posterity. I never really got that myself as I always bought larger packs and got what I needed and filled up with smaller packs with leftover money hoping for something OK with the RNG. on my first me3mp account I got all consumables to cap n all t1/t2 ammo /etc to cap along with all weapons to cap and ended up needing like 5 more lvl 4 ammo's to cap out on every item possible and the only stuff I ever seemed to get was crappy character cards although the ammo cap in that game was 999 not 255/

I had 268 Cryo IV's one night after a buying spree in ME3. It was so great that a) I got so many, and they immediately disappeared when I exited. /csb

Seems to be some confusion as to the advantages of this, so I'm going to attempt to spell it out before I've even had my first cup of coffee.
In ME3, you have a 255 cap on Consumables (Rockets, Medi-Gel, Ops Packs, TCPs). Things like Cryo Ammo, Shotgun Rail Amp, and Cyclonic Modulator are Equipment. Some people call those Consumables. This is confusing. Anyway once you reach 255 in a Consumable (not Equipment), it comes off the Drop Table, and no longer appears in packs. Once that happens, you will either get extra of the other Consumables, or extra Equipment. It does not increase you chances of getting a Rare/Ultra Rare.
In MEA, the cap is either higher than 255, or there is no cap at all. If there is a cap on Consumables, then you would conceivably begin getting other Consumables in their place, or perhaps extra Equipment (now called Boosters, please do not call them Consumables again, I know that you consume them but you can't just go around calling everything the same name, there's enough SJW in the SP we don't need any of that here). Getting more Boosters out of your packs would surely be a good thing, and the Supply Packs are very very cheap. But if there is no cap, there's no point in spamming Supply Packs.
TL;DR Once you max out a Consumable you might get more Boosters in its place. That's why it matters.

Yeah, I'm going to stock my credits up until they increase the # of consumables obtained by higher level packs. In ME3 we get 3x for each consumable for the advanced pack and 5x for anything higher. In ME3 I purposely bought packs to get to the 255 limit so that I can get more equipment consumables. Also I wish there was a pack where I can only get equipment consumables (i.e. ammo powers and etc.).
