So one of the big differences from the OT is the sheer amount of things to do/quests. I just finished attacking the first Kett base, and now have stuff to do on Eos, Voeld and Havarl, the main quest back on the Angara homeworld, scanning crap and doing things for squadmates. Not to mention the robust crafting system that I don't understand really.
I'm actually overwhelmed. I don't know what to do. I'm level 12 at the moment. What I liked about the OT is that it was more focused, giving you a couple of choices of which planet to go to, or who to recruit next, but then tunneled towards the same endpoint. This is very open-ended and I tend to dislike games with this amount of freedom (I'm sure others love it.) Kind of reminds me of Skyrim a bit and obviously Dragon Age: Inquisition.
I guess I'm looking for advice on how to go forward and maybe how you choose what you do next.

I don't have any advice for you, but I agree and am in the acne boat (same spot in the story, too). I'm loving the game so far, but I really wish it was more focused.

My advice (that I do myself) is to only choose a few missions to do at a time. In the past I clicked on a npc/book/consol etc as soon as I saw it, and as we know that only lead to a mess. And since the Devs have said that most missions don't disappear (I don't remember when they said it) you can just take 2-3 missions, do them, then leave for a new planet, choose 2-3 missions and so on. The problem is of course that the game feel longer since we have all the leave and land scenes but at least you don't get tired of a planet by doing 10+ missions in a row. Like the hinterlands in DA:I. And also, you don't NEED to do every mission in one playthrough. You can always do some now and some in NG+ or in a whole new game. Hope it gives you any ideas.

DAI has smaller and manageable zones, porting from place to place is also fast. I don't know the gripe about Hinterlands, etc (I don't have anything to dislike about it), etc but it's peanuts compared to the ballooned MEA. MEA is expanded twice over with longer travel transitions; superman flying through space! The amount of side stuff to do is also enlarged and can sometimes take up a lot of time compared to DAI. It all boils down to how much you want to do. A 100% means combing through everything. Less than that is doing whatever you picked up. General PT is to clean out a established planet until nothing else can be done; planet / party. Then move on to the next main mission. Rinse and repeat.

I guess my worry is my level. As I said, I'm level 12 now, just finishing that first Kett base. Do enemies scale w/ you? I don't really wanna pursue the main quest at the moment, guess I'll go back on Eos and check things out. Also my mineral resources are way low and gimping my crafting stuff. I think I bit off more than I can chew with quests, yeah. My quest/mission log is intimidating.
What I liked about the OT is that yeah, things were more focused and tighter (you could choose what planet to go to or who to recruit) but then it all funnels to the same place. I thought the storytelling was also better since it was more focused (less choice.) Here, feels like DA:I with quantity > quality.
I don't hate the game, I'm enjoying it ok. I just really wanted ME4 to be like ME2/ME3 just set in Andromeda w/ new characters. It's DA:I in space it seems. I do admit the Nomad is pretty cool to roll around in - but it doesn't feel like a Mass Effect game to me yet. Also, the music is kinda meh.
ty for the advice.

Step 1....start ignoring all the "collection" tasks.

For me, the thing to bear in mind is that the side content is largely optional and as noted above mostly not time-gated.
Second, I find the side-content standard to be a decided notch above DAI, though I have yet to find 'Witcher 3' comparable side-content.
Third, 'patience', enjoy the game, do what you want or don't.

Except for "find Greer" in the beginning. I got too close to Cora's location because I got lost and the mission advanced. Tried to go back "you're too far away from the mission location" and that huge bubble spawned as if it hadn't already made its point.

Just ignore the Additional Tasks missions, they're basically filler and fetch quests.

I start with the Monoliths. On the way to them I try to get all those fast travel stations. Then I use the fast travel option to do all the Quests that are near those stations.
That's how I work myself through those planets.

I start with getting an outpost on the available worlds and getting them to 200% viability. If able, I focused on a single planet until I finished most things. Though a lot of the missions take you between planets.
The side quests didn't really seem like TW3 to me. In that game it seemed to me that most of the side quests were contracts. They were related to what Geralt does, but not the main storyline. It felt to me that main story had to do with the side missions.
