(Gold outlaws at least allthough I imagine you'd be fine vs the other factions as well)
Seriously, I did some gold runs earlier and they were the easiest ones I've done yet, probably easier than with an infiltrator and we got a couple of runs done in less than 15 minutes. That round I believe was me as adept, 2 duelists and 1 human infiltrator, and I had top score by a good margin. I was basically running around and shoot-punching all the things. You do a lot of damage with the melee but if you specc it right you are also extremely tanky and can play very aggressive with little fear.
The build is this: Run a shotgun or a pistol with a melee mod, like talon/scorpion/piranha/dhan/kesh/or the new krogan shotty. Use the juggernaut shield.
Max out annihilation field and both passives.
For annihilation field pick radius, then damage attractor, and draining field. This will debuff enemies around you by 20% and give you and allies 30% shields anytime something in your field dies, very good.
In offensive biotics the important 2 are rank 5 exposure, and rank 6 biotic warrior. Exposure adds another 20% debuff and biotic warrior enhances your melee by 50% + 15% weapon damage, again very good. Now you'll be debuffing enemies around you by 40%. That's a big deal.
For barrier take rank 4 unyielding barrier (important since we're all about restoring barriers so the more the better), rank 5 barrier drain and rank 6 saving barrier. This means you'll have the max possible amount of total barriers and you'll drain 20% barriers on melee hits. Rank 6 will restore your shields to full every 10 seconds if you take critical damage.
With all this you'll be debuffing enemies around you 40% for you and all allies, you'll be restoring 30% shields on kills, 20% on melee hits, and 100% every 10 seconds if you take a lot of damage. You'll have to play really reckless to die, and you can pretty much 1 shot + 1 punch every gold mook, shielded enemies like the sharpshooters go down fast and so do the armored smaller targets. You can 1v1 a berserker with melee only if you wish easily allthough I'd recommend shooting once between punches for time efficiency.
I put the rest of my points into throw because I don't feel like aiming lance, the biotic explosions are not what I built around since they seem less strong than maxing out the passives.
Fun and very strong playstyle, give it a try. I guess it plays a lot like a vanguard, you should be jumping and dashing and death from above meleeing liberally as well.

Very cool. Don't think I've tried Askari adept yet. I'll have to bookmark this. Thanks for the guide!

Melee does seem to be a viable option on quite a few characters this time around. Lackng an Asari Adept, I'll go the Human Vanguard round first, though.

Yep playing charge punch H-guard and s/he strong as well. Note you want fast charge evo. I guess we also want Apex 6 power specialist for faster power recharge more charging to punch stuff and shield restoring. Not sure what else we want. BTW you don't want to fight Kett due to bosses. TBH you don't want to fight them anyway stupid Ascendant's with shields.

The Krogan Gladiator is looking to be similarly viable. Probably less survivable without the shield restore on hit but more damaging and Pull has better melee synergy than the Asari's other abilities.

All Asari afaik have this amazing mobility and melee synergy, mechanically at least if not in spec, so one can practice with other Asari on lesser modes if no Adept yet.
Asari Sentinel was actually my first 20 and I was sliding 180 flying punches all over the place in the first couple of days, but is shit at close combat on Gold. Backlash is pretty fun though. Can't wait to try the Duelist
Asari Adept is actually better than the krogan at melee. More damage and potential survivability close-in and faster. The Asari Adept is after all the 2nd iteration of the ME3 Justicar, the only non krogan class I regularly played in that game, and I bet Bioware had such players in mind.
We'll see how the Krogan Gladiator pans out; I have her but don't really plan on playing her - looks like will be slower than the Adept and better at aoe. Maybe the Kroguard can somewhat match speed. Wouldn't know; of the krogans only playing Merc now kek
