This is not about multiplayer, this is just about the strike teams you recruit and the missions you can send them on. I don't want to play multiplayer. I don't like it, and even thinking about it being required gives me hives.
First, I don't see any sort of 'galactic readiness' mechanic. Does this mean these missions are in fact 100% optional with zero impact on gameplay and ending choices?
Second, what is the max level for the strike teams. I see a lot of equipment, none of which I can afford, and it looks like the best stuff caps at requiring team level 10. Is that as high as they go?
Third, I have read that failing missions can give negative traits, and it seems like things are hard enough for the strike teams, that I don't need a negative trait making the team useless. However, my best team only has a 61% chance to do a silver mission, and 8% for a gold. I have two teams, and it seems like there are only 2 bronze missions per day. Is that normal?

In my experience the teams level up pretty quick. I just use the on-phone app for Strike Team missions. Mine started off super low, and I send them out all the time. They fail regularly (or at least they did) but so far I don't see them having any negative traits. They get XP even when they fail, so that's how you level them up, I assume. Yes, the MP is totally optional. The only thing you get from it (as far as I know) is materials, research points, and gear. It does not affect planet viability or "galactic readiness" or anything like that. Just mo money, mo problems. I don't yet know what the level cap is. I know that my two are both level 14. And they do silver at like 94% or something like that. Hope that helps!

Very much so, thank you. I guess that means no reason to not try and blast out the silver missions. Assuming Bioware doesn't use the XCOM dice, 61% to win might actually mean 61%, not auto-fail.

I was successful with a 49% one. As said above it seems to be just another way to get materials and resources for crafting which have plenty of alternate methods as well in single player.

There is an achievement for getting a Strike Team to level 20, so that's at least how high you can go. Don't know if it goes any higher than that, though.
