Get a Carnifex X, as it is only uncommon, it should in theory not take that long to get. 1 shot of it does more damage than an entire clip of the Avenger X. Or the sidewinder, that thing is pretty good too, but that is rare and more than twice the damage of even the semi auto ARs.
Problem is, ME3 at least had weekly balance changes, which even that turned to bi-weekly. I think we will be lucky if we get balance changes on a monthly basis.

We should embrace change and more on! (har har) but I do miss the Cerberus Harrier and Claymore. Low ammunition count but it still got the job done (at least for my soldier's kit)

i would like to make a point about the spread of the shotguns. I shot a wall from 2 meters and the spread was ridiculous no wonder the shotguns do so little damage if half of the pellets miss the target and if you go for headshot sometimes the bullet go everywhere but the head from 2m/6feet, madness. I use pistols instead. Was this done with a shotgun choke? I have choke X for shotguns and it does decent damage at mid-range.

Thokin is one of the only ones with decent dps but difficult to headshot with it. Most ARs are meant to go for headshots Piranha is still one of the highest dps shotguns I heard the Thokin was good. Just unlocked it today and gave it a shot, and was shocked at how terrible the accuracy was. A lot of the ARs are like this, and it makes them feel like they're supposed to be used as shotguns. I guess that's alright considering how weak the current shotguns are. Yea, piranha is alright though. I've got a Thokin rank I and it has been carrying my behind since I got it. According to the details, the Thokin rounds track the opponents, so it's not suppose to be flat accurate. I confirmed this as I was trying to shot a flammable canister but it kept curving towards the enemy next to it.

Try using boosters. I've used electric/cryo/flame rounds and DAMN! Definitely saw an increase in DPS. Match it with an AR booster as well if you like. Of course, electric rounds offer more damage against the remnants.

I have a choke 4, and I speced my turian soldier for 85% accuracy bonus (fortify 20% , turbocharge 45% , passive 20%), and the spread is hideous In ME3, 85% accuracy bonus means you can turn every shotgun into a crusader even without a choke. Guess I should just abandon shotguns and join the vanquisher fan club.

A punch to the face does more damage than a shotgun blast it's weird. It's a space punch to the face, that's why. Just be thankful that we don't have UR melee weapons to grind for, yet. They exist in SP so it's not inconceivable that they might be added down the line.

Anyway is that too much to ask for shotgun to do decent damage without fully upgraded attachment it will take me few weeks to get there considering how much i play MP.

Just checking, what level Rare and UR ARs are we talking about? If its lvl 1-4 then they will feel weak until you level them a bit.
And if you are complaining that a lvl 1 AR feels weak then I really cant help you.

And if you are complaining that a lvl 1 AR feels weak then I really cant help you. Good point. There are ten levels for each weapon and each level up gives it a buff. It also depends on what difficulty you are playing on as well. It's pretty common knowledge that base items (starter kits) are always the weakest items even if they are max level. Unlock more levels for your guns, use ammo buffs and weapon amplifiers and that will raise the damage output.
