Compared to guns of other classes, 90% of ARs and shotguns are useless crap in this game. Even on classes meant to use them like soldier and vanguard, I use SMGs and snipers because they are just plain better. There was little to no effort to balance or Play test this game.

Well I like the overall philosophy on balance, but yes most ARs are garbage. Falcon is amazing on Merc with pure accuracy spec though a Striker (which is a krogan made rifle) fill-in Soned (UR Typhoon 2.0) is pretty good on Merc as well Thokin is one of the only ones with decent dps but difficult to headshot with it. Most ARs are meant to go for headshots Piranha is still one of the highest dps shotguns

Thokin is one of the only ones with decent dps but difficult to headshot with it. Most ARs are meant to go for headshots Piranha is still one of the highest dps shotguns I heard the Thokin was good. Just unlocked it today and gave it a shot, and was shocked at how terrible the accuracy was. A lot of the ARs are like this, and it makes them feel like they're supposed to be used as shotguns. I guess that's alright considering how weak the current shotguns are. Yea, piranha is alright though.

I dunno what you're talking about. I can kill a Bronze mook with the Katana in a single clip. On an Infiltrator. :rage:

Keep in mind a lot of the assault rifles in ME3 other than Harrier/Typhoon/PPR were pretty bad on every class not called the Turian Soldier.

I got some strange UR shotgun named Dhan, which is the only UR I have, and tried it on silver. At point blank headshot, it takes about half of health of an outlaw trooper, has two shots in a mag and takes about 6 seconds to reload. I'm not sure I get the idea. I fired it a few times but was unable to reload because everything interrupts this oh-so-very complex process. Reminds me of some 17th century musket reload process and probably even that was faster, not a piece of 300-years-from-now-in-the-future technology. IMO, some bad design here by somebody at Bioware and lack of playtesting. At least if there is no reload canceling, make reload memory so that it continues from where is was interrupted. Also, lol-UR, katana X actually kills the mook in one clip and takes just 2 seconds to reload. I'll stick to katana, thanks, and it is also a bit lighter.
Revenant is actually OKish on soldier with that new marksman ability. You cannot shoot across the map but it does hit things at mid range.

Same complaintnI had in ME3MP. An AR is the staple of any military. Pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles...all ancillary.
Except in this game. I can headshot a mook with the Sidewinder from across the map.
But almost any AR cannot hit the broad side of a barn.

The thing with the Dhan is that it reliably staggers, and is pretty accurate at medium range (doesn't work at all at long range though). The projectile "guidance" takes a bit of getting used to, though. So... a two-shot UR version of the GPS that cannot be charged up or fired rapidly? Yeah, not amazing, but outside of 4-5 weapons presently, everything is very underwhelming. Are we even getting weekly balance passes, anyway?

i would like to make a point about the spread of the shotguns. I shot a wall from 2 meters and the spread was ridiculous no wonder the shotguns do so little damage if half of the pellets miss the target and if you go for headshot sometimes the bullet go everywhere but the head from 2m/6feet, madness. I use pistols instead.

Yes, pretty much every shotgun or AR I've tried has been tragically bad. It would be one thing if it were just the commons and uncommons that were bad, but a lot of the rares I've used have been awful as well. The only thing that's even remotely good is the Scattershot I that I use, and even that takes ~10 shots to kill a single enemy on Gold.

I wholeheartedly agree. They left all the good assault rifles in the Milky Way. The only good shotgun is now an N7 Ultra Rare, which I was lucky enough to get to level II. The mighty Piranha is still wrecking things up in Andromeda the way it did in the Milky Way. It's also a lot heavier now. This game is already too easy. Imagine if the Andromeda Initiative took along a bunch of Harriers, Particle Rifles, Tyhpoons, and Lancers. They have an AR named the Cyclone. It's such a tease. They made me excited, thinking it would be powerful like the Hurricane and Typhoon. The cyclone is more like a drizzle than a force of nature.

The guns are quite disappointing in ME:AMP to say the least. They obviously put almost no effort into balance testing anything in MP. I think they threw random numbers on random guns and hoped for the best. They have a lot of work ahead of them to get it right.

I also found shotguns and assault rifles to be pathetically underpowered but then again, without access to all of the proper mods and the stat scaling on weapons per upgrade level it's not easy (for me at least) to make a reasonably accurate assessment of them.
I'd imagine that even maxed out with maxed mods the vast majority would still be mediocre at best but I hope I'm wrong.

This reminds me of the ME3MP remember how we all used to accuse the devs of balancing the game around bronze, this feels even truer as most guns struggle in silver and honestly I haven't dared tread into gold with pugs considering the lack of stopping power in the arsenal. I just hope when the first set of balance changes roll around the few that are good don't take a hit instead they get the hint and bring up most weapons especially rares, and ultra rares.

I love the mechanics and design of the Scattershot and the Hesh, but they are extremely weak for Gold and even questionable for Silver. I also have a Crusader which I like to show off in public lobbies but honestly it is barely above trash level. Fortunately my Kroguard can equip that with a melee attachment and still get 100% recharge speed. I am still waiting to get the Piranha.
As for Assault Rifles, I got both the Valkyrie and the Soned early on and they both suck so badly that I simply lost interest in this gun class altogether. I haven't really played with the Rare ones (except for a few seconds with the Sweeper, which feel like plain garbage) so I don't know if there is a hidden gem among them, though it feels like there isn't.

The Spitfire is a beast too. Throw in the Lancer as a lightweight alternative to the PPR. Also Valkyrie. I luv the Valkyrie.

Piranha is okay but nevermind it's UR shotgun and you have to shoot enemies at point blank range. Oh and biower will nerf it again like they did in ME3MP.

The Piranha does feel like a closer range gun than it did in ME3 mp, but it's still the strongest gun in the game per clip. The only thing preventing it from wiping Andromeda on the floor is the N7 UR status and the slow reload mechanics. In ME3, you could wipe out enemies by yourself with just that gun. Pistols and sniper guns is where it's at with Andromeda. Hurricane is still god level. Talon is not as god-like as in ME3 but still second in command. Equalizer is very good and easy to rank up to level X if you buy one of the lower tier packs. Widow and Isharay are awesome one shot guns. The Vanquisher, mine at level IV, is surprisingly my second most damaging gun per clip, next to the supreme Piranha. I have the Nadalen, and I want to like it, as it remind me of that game breaking Krysae sniper gun from ME3, but it's currently level 1 and can't kill much unless you pop 3-4 rounds at an enemy.
Some of these guns are UR not because they're so strong. It's because they're so weak no one wanted them and the manufacturers went out of business so there aren't many of them around.

So its not just me? I don't play that much hence my earning power is low. Decided to max out basic guns first before buying expensive packs. At this point of time I can't replace my AvengerX assault rifle which is pretty much my bread and butter for all my characters? Even my Level 20 soldier.
Of course its not the best, but I can't find better :< (farming Silver BTW due to lack of good weapons)
Is there anything that is decently accurate that would allow me to peek out for 1-2 seconds, score some head shots rather than pretend to be Rambo with an Aven-Peashooter trying to kill a normal mob?

Agreed... Love my Equalizer, though the range is limited. It's great for a short range class and blows shotguns away, especially because it can tear through shields fairly quickly.
The Avenger with a good stock is pretty accurate, but very low damage. The Vakyrie is pretty good. Tried The Sweeper.. My God it's bad. A three burst weapon shouldn't fire that slow and have that much recoil plus do pitiful damage. Thokin does decent damage and the homing makes up for the poor accuracy, though very slightly. But ammo count and magazine size is way too low.
And the spread on the shotguns is so bad I decided to put them away until something was done. They shouldn't need a mod just to be able to hit the target at point blank range.
Tatsumaki- it's an ultra rate N7 weapon, but the Valkyrie is a pretty accurate 2 shot burst weapon. I hear the Mattock is also decent as a single shot semi-auto.
