I've not progressed much in the game (i've unlocked the first memory) so if we do see it later on, don't tell me how You start the game (after wrestling with the CC) and then suddenly it's the Hyperion appearing. It's not a very exciting or interesting way to start the game, and if you didn't see the briefing videos you'd have no clue about it. Surely we could see them at least jumping away from the Milky way and then the 600 years later message shows up?

I wondered about this, for those not familiar with the concept and history of the game the intro gives very little information about why we're all there. It would've been great to see the Initiative videos play as they travelled (with the option to skip them) for those who don't know much about it. Also images of the turian, salarian and asari arks leaving, with the Quarian ark being held up.

I think the better question is why didn't they add the travel to get there. 600+ years of content and the greedy bastards cut it out of the game, probably to sell back to us as DLC no doubt.
On a serious note, I was half hoping that's how the game started. Maybe Scott/Sara Grabbing a few last minute orders from the Citadel to see it one last time, and then the start of the journey before being frozen.I can't blame them though. The last time I voluntarily got in a freezer at the start of a game, my wife got shot in the head and my son became a mad scientist. I still have scars.

One of the things, in writing, that ( more modern) BW struggles with... feels like the plot is too much GO, GO, GO!...too fast forward to really commit itself to bring the most out of setting and characters. Too heavy exposition: Tell, don't show. ( Hell, even Fallout IV took some time to showcase pre Fallout world) Would have been great to see colonists and Garson in the lead and the Ryder family together. "Cheesy" one liners are a minor issue in comparison.

It just really wouldn't have added much to the game. I've started the novel (about 10 chapters into it), and it covers these moments. No one was awake as the vessels left the Milky Way. All final checks were made before launch, and all of the sleepers were down before departure. Jien had a few brief words for everyone, and that was it. It would've just slowed and cluttered an already solid opening.

I don't see what problem this is supposed to solve. It's not a problem so much as anyone new to the franchise has no idea what's going on. At least a shot of the ships with the milk way behind them would have been a good start to the game.

Because someone felt we had to be shooting things with 30 minutes, just like someone thought the player character has to be in charge and the hero within the first 2 hours. I'd say this is just a industry wide misconception but for all we know they've had a slower ending playtested... I don't see what problem this is supposed to solve. It's not a problem so much as anyone new to the franchise has no idea what's going on. At least a shot of the ships with the milk way behind them would have been a good start to the game. As much as I would have liked some time before the intro to have been spent introducing and building a bit more of a bond with some of the characters, the narration in the beginning seemed to handle the setup pretty well to me.

There was a narration? I don't remember anything happening before the ship appears. Yup, starts with Alec narrating about how we're leaving families, homes, and the birthplace of our species for adventure, discovery, or a new start in Andromeda. Then a short piece of text followed by the games logo, like in the trilogy. Following that is the Hyperion arriving in Andromeda 634 years later. So they do quickly establish that we've left the Milky way for Andromeda. The could have put more emphasis on what the initiative is about I guess but since things end up not exactly going to plan that would probably have been weird, opening with information that turns out to be irrelevant (though info boards can tell you about it).

After talking with many AI citizens, I am quite sure to get the numbers they had to empty several big prisons (mostly on Earth) and the rest was filled with the most useless whiny spoiled lazy lot they convinced to join by promising personal castle with robotic slaves and tons of toys. As smart people, first AI thawed criminals and they (criminals) made a riot and run with most of the food stock. Now Raider has to deal with spoiled babies who only capable to pronounce severall words "Give me my Golden World!!! You promised!!!! Give-me, give-me, give-me NOW!!!!" Sorry, had to say it. I know you are asking about different things but could not resist.

Then the whole "We made it!" bit, along with the Info Wall in the cryo chamber. If you didn't view the info wall, then you should. And you should also read the datapad in the hall on your way to the tram. Just saying. That's all super early in the game and it's all very useful.

I think that would have been a great idea. Games like this, and Fallout 4, really touted family and their connections, but you're never really given time to form a connection. In Fallout 4 you spend all of 5 minutes with your spouse and kid before it all goes down, so it's hard to really feel any real emotional connection to them.
Using the Milky Way as a starting point, setting up family ties- ie, what kind of relationships you have with your dad and twin- as they work towards going to Andromeda would have given much needed depth.

I would have liked to see that as well. I have been reading the book that accompanied the release, Nexus Uprising. It has Sloan Kelly get frozen and then wake up after they hit the scourge into chaos and fear. As I read this I kinda thought that might have been a neat way to start this game. You have a tender moment with your dad and your sister/brother before your frozen, create an initial connection with them, maybe a brief introductory discussion about your family. Then get frozen and see the ship enter the darkness. Then you arrive, and your in your pod and have awakened but can't get out of the pod because the ship has hit the scourge and their is panic. You check on your siblings pod to find it damaged and then you meet Cora and need to find your way to the bridge. Could have been a high intensity beginning, put you into that high adrenaline crisis mode.
Again I liked how thing started, a little more optimistic and hopeful only to have a crisis happen.

You can't expect people to sit through a 1-2hr intro where nothing happens.
