Is it just me, or are the audiovisual effects really understated?
I'm aware every game in the trilogy had redesigned sounds and visuals, but I felt like by ME3 they really had some great audiovisual effects for the weapons and powers.
Having played a few hours of MEAMP, and having watched a few gameplay videos, I just feel... estranged. There's no sense of familiarity at all.
It seems like a they completely redesigned everything, I haven't spotted a single "classic" sound that I knew from previous games.
So not only am I missing some of the classic effects, but the new sounds are not exactly an improvement. They all feel understated and way less awesome. It really wouldn't have hurt to keep some of the beloved classics like the sounds of biotic detonation, fire explosion, Warp. Not to mention there's no Saber, Claymore, Tech Armour, etc.
Everything just feels off, there's no way to tell if a teammate is being revived, for example. The sound we had for that was great. Why take it away?
I also don't like how every power now seems like it's a projectile power. Overload and Energy Drain, for example. I loved how it felt like you hacked their internal systems from a distance and saw their shields blow up at the press of a button. Now it's like you're just throwing lightning bolts at them and it just SUCKS imo.
Annihilation Field is now this stupid blue disc that's sitting under your character, it looks really silly. And it seems like there's no accompanying effects on affected enemies... or if there is, it's way too subtle, because I can't tell whether they're primed or not.
Anyone else notice this, or is it just me having trouble adjusting to new things?

i actually wanted to write almost the same thing... yes, the sound design of gun/power effects is much much worse than in me3mp; and i'm not even talking about aural situational awareness - because there's none. sad face.

It seems it's always one extreme or the other in this game. Like, the satisfying thudUMPH! of biotic explosions past has been replaced by the faintest little queef now, sure, but the Krogan blood rage visuals are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum and make it seem like the art team went through some kind of f'ing crayons and dubstep phase.

Yeah, replacing the godly biotic detonation effect is a fucking crime against humanity. What the FUCK were they thinking? Whatever the sound is now, it's certainly not better, god damn it.
I just noticed Annihilation Field makes enemies have a faint glowy effect. So it's there, but it's nowhere near as cool and organic as the old effect was, which was also way more visible. Bah.

The only sound I recognize is the krogan beserker using krogan noises from ME3MP.

As far as I can tell, Overload and Energy are still line of effect powers, mechanically (so they can't be dodged), but they're animated like a projectile power.
