Done quite a few playthroughs an to compare ME:A to the original trilogy id say is very unfair, compairing it to each game in the series on a 1 to 1 basis i'd simply say it does some things better an does others worse., but that is a typical BioWare game for me.
I really do not like the angara though, in all the games i played from BioWare i never disliked a race as much as them, ultimately its the thought of meeting them again that stops me playing anymore, sad i know 😆😢😆

So I've finally finished, so late that I doubt anyone will read this! ** WARNING SPOILER AHEAD ** Pretty much everything has already been said. ME fans are trying not to be too negative, while Metacritic rates the game only slightly higher than E.T, on the Atari console Near to the end of the game we cross a huge bridge inside Meridian. The digital background in this section is jaw droppingly good. I stopped and just marvelled at the visage. The digital artist was at the top of their game. It's the simple fact that this fantastic work will be lost in the noise surrounding the abject failure of MEA to live up to the formerly great reputation of Bioware. In creating MEA, Bioware committed a single, terrible sin. They didn't create a great game, or a terrible one. They gave us a game that is a triumph in mediocrity. Not amazing or awful in any single aspect, but merely adequate. The result of a dollar value trumping all other considerations. Bioware will soon be no more. I feel genuinely sorry for all the talented staff who brought us such wonderful games, and I wish you all well for the future. I hope you find employers who love games as much as you do, or maybe you could set up your own independent sudio. Sure I enjoyed some of it, and even managed 100% viability, but my feeling at the end was simply "meh!" Would I buy another? Possibly, but not at launch. There are plenty of "B" grade titles to choose from. The ME trilogy was a truly outstanding series of games, that others will struggle to equal, but MEA is the end. This franchise is dead. Oh sorry, i mean "on hiatus" See you in the multiplayer. Which is also "ok" Having now played a fair amount of the Multiplayer I can report that my impressions are only slightly better than for the Single Player. Progression is slow and grindy, powers are dull and unispiring, action is so frenetic that any "team" cohesion is hard to develop, there are few stand-out weapons, and just as many bugs as SP. "Meh" is the best way to describe the whole game. I've not played HZD yet, but I think that could be coming sooner rather than later for me. I actually find myself wanting to play ME3 MP once more! Apparently there's another DA in development, Well I might pick it up when it's been discounted.

Apparently there's another DA in development, Well I might pick it up when it's been discounted. Correction. There are some rumors floating around. But in all seriousness, who should develop it? Edmonton is busy developing the new IP and Montreal was busy developing MEA until recently and is now patching the game. If there's some new DA, it has not left the planning stage by now.

My honest opinion is that the game is very beautiful, but it seems to have sacrificed some of its original soul for that beauty. And like any deal with a devil, you can't help but wonder what it was that made them do it in the first place.
Pretty games are lovely, and ME:A does not disappoint. With the exception of Elaadan (too much white sand, reflective), the land was gorgeous. I get that the lands needed to be inhospitable looking, but really? Two deserts? But all in all, this is a minor complaint. The major complaint was animations. I didn't play much before 1.05, so I didn't see a lot of the terrible ones. But the scene where the Pathfinders all meet for the first bottle of wine had stiff, unmoving faces with only mouths moving badly. If this was what it was like before that, I understand why people were upset.
The gameplay was also very smooth. Jumping around with the jump-jets was fantastic and never got old. I tended to pick a gun and stick with it, but I really liked using Remnant guns, and the old-school Scorpion pistol. The enemies themselves were different: Roekaar and exiles were similar, but kett and Remnant were alien and fought very differently. That was good.
The plot reminded me of Firefly, which I liked, but the impetus was never really experienced. I understood Ryder's mission, and cerebrally, I got it. But emotionally, it just felt like a joyride. Everyone was off to have a good time exploring, like the seriousness never snuck up on them. I'd be annoyed if everyone wangsted about it, but I wanted at least someone to feel like this was so important.
The characters, at least the major ones, fell flat. Minor characters had a smidge of personality and it worked, but the vocal direction was very inconsistent and so the major ones bothered me. The minor characters on the Tempest: Suvi, Kallo, and Lexi, were likable (if in a superficial way, despite Suvi's talk of faith). The major characters just seemed annoying. Peebee gets a slight pass because she seems intentionally like a troll, but only Vetra (and, to a lesser extent, Cora) didn't make me roll my eyes in how ridiculous they were. Liam felt forced, Drack was a walking cliche, and Jaal was just aggravating with all his whining. Likewise with the other major characters in the story, I only really gravitated towards liking a few (most of the named salarians, NPC Ryder, and a few others)
This worked in the game's favor for villains, because the villains both large and small were very good at making me hate them. Not as much as Kai Leng, but from Annea to Sloane to the named kett, I did enjoy putting bullets into those people.
And then there was the controversy. The devs really shot themselves in the foot by promising to make changes to appease the SJW crowd. They're never happy, don't even bother. There's valuable resources to fix for all, yet the whiny minority seems to think they're the only ones who get to decide what is wrong.

Edgy Space Lesbians is ok.
Most of the dialogue is worth skipping and it is too easy on insanity.

I finished ME:A last week and throughout these last days I've been thinking about the impact of the game. duskwanderer Your sentences basically sum up what I think of it. I can't deny that the visuals, the level design, the UI/UX design, sound design and cinematics are absolutely gorgeous. The battle system? The best of all. Clothing, armor, weapons, powers, all those options are amazing. But...Mass Effect Andromeda's story lacks of the little things. The nuances that makes game writing richier and better. A simple example can be found in Dragon Age Inquisition. Vivienne used to hate my Inquisitor, so the dialogue options were always rigid and hard. It was tough to discuss anything with her. On other hand, Dorian had my full approval, so there was always new funny and light dialogue options between him and my character. And new dialogue animations. That's one of the little things that make a huuuuuge difference in the game's development. ME:A hasn't that with your crewmates or if anyone in general. I couldn't feel like they were growing througout the story (Jaal and Cora are exceptions because I could feel they changing in some aspects). There are two major plotlines in this game: the Andromeda Initiative and the Heleus story itself. And the game simply doesn't give the proper attention to any of them. You finish ME:A with four or five plot points yet to be answered. OK, I can wait for the next games but that's too much to wait. There are a lot of missed opportunities in this game that, unfortunately, seems to be laziness from the writing team (some spoilers ahead). The conflict between Reyes and Sloane summed up with one tiny scene with an action moment?
Your sibling being the entire game in a coma when you could build a big relationship with him/her?
Dad is dead in the first ten minutes of the game... Is it?
The fact that Ryder knows the Milk Way is probably all dead because of the Reapers but he/she doesn't talk about it with anyone?
etc, etc, etc. Also, the romance didn't work with me. My Ryder started flirting with Liam but when I met Reyes I changed. Reyes is indeed a really good character and his romance plot is good, but after my Kadara events, I had to go back to Liam. And his romance lacks everything (more spoilers ahead). Reyes is a marvelous opportunity to make the exiles plot become way, way better. My Ryder romanced him but saved Sloane. I think this is a great chance to see him in the future and to confront him about their feelings. To see where he lives or if the Collective has a hub, etc, etc, etc. I had some serious technical issues since day one, but it seems all those patches can handle the problems. Can't wait for an improvement on CC and animations. I intend to play again with the same character and change her visuals. In general, I liked the game. It's Mass Effect after all. But I really hope they improve their writing team for DLC's or future sequels. >> EDIT: after Kotaku's article, some things were more justified.

I truly enjoyed the game. It felt like an extention of the Mass Effect series. It was familiar and new. Just as with the original series, the longer I played, the more connected I felt with the series. I obsessively played it and valued the character development. I do hope that the articles that focused on Bioware just updating multi-player is just a rumor. I will continue to buy day one and support Bioware.
I want to sincerely thank the people that ranted, whined, and scathed about the facial animations and the few quests that were bugged. Thanks for being an awesome fan that ruins good series due to your absolute bitterness. Thanks so much.

Best game of the series! MET was special but it lacked things that MEA brought to it , making it my fav of the 4!
The salty ME3 ending people and the "gotta a be cool and complain since it seems everyone else is" people have not ruined the series, and MEA2 will happen, so I'm just going to sit back and watch everyone act like whiny babies, and enjoy my game knowing that there's more to come in the future.

Ok, so I'm really late with this. Only just finished the game last weekend (Xbox One S, 145 hours, 98%, Sara Ryder Infiltrator on Normal, romanced Suvi, concentrated on Casual/Compassionate dialogue) Just started another run as Scott. This time I'll be concentrating on Biotics and the Professional/Logical side of the dialogue. Will probably romance Cora. Clearly I enjoyed the game a lot and it's still holding my attention enough to replay it but I voted Good rather than Great because there were a lot of places where I felt it let itself down. I'm not one to care much about animations or the odd bug but there were other disappointments: 1) Lack of squad control compared to ME3. I realize it's more realistic not to be micromanaging squad mates to the extent of exactly what powers to use when but, without that, I barely noticed what they were doing most of the time. I never felt it made the slightest difference who I took on missions other than to hear different banter while driving the Nomad. 2) For a long time squad-mates had nothing new to say. I found out later that it was because I was concentrating on viability of the various worlds while not progressing the main quest but, at the time, it was very frustrating when nobody had anything new to say mission after mission - including the character I had chosen as my love interest (Suvi). It was also annoying because the same dialogue trees hung around so you could never tell whether it would result in a new response or not (and it invariably didn't). I know a recent patch addressed this a bit but I don't think the fix worked very well. It was still highlighting dialogue lines that had nothing new in them. The trilogy was much better in presenting completely new dialogue options each time without leaving old ones around that just end up having the character repeating themselves. 3) Talking of repeating themselves. A lot of the ambient dialogue while walking around the Nexus seemed to be the same every visit even when it was patently not relevant to the situation any more. 4) The game was giving me numerous options to flirt and have casual sex or one-night stands but what's the point if it's just going to 'fade to black' every time? Even Suvi, my main romance, just did a fade to black which was pretty anti-climactic for the culmination of a game-long romance. It didn't have to be the adult content that was being hyped on twitter prior to the game but at least Trilogy-levels of culmination would have been nice. What's worse is the game rail-roaded me into sleeping with the reporter after I had finally established the romance with Suvi. I wanted to be loyal but there was no option to turn her down just because I'd been flirty with her prior to getting with Suvi 5) The Codex/Journal/Inventory etc. were really annoying in the way that they were inconsistently flagged as unread when they weren't or not flagged when they were. Plus once the unread option is on a different page to the first or last one it's impossible to locate because you wipe out the flag while scrolling before you even see it. There's no 'mark all as read' or ability to just show unread or sort by unread. It was really annoying trying to make sure I caught everything. 6) I really disliked Gil. He came across as an arrogant, inconsiderate bastard and yet somehow the game seemed to think we were best of friends by the end of it. Not in my head we weren't! 7) Maybe the decisions I made will have an impact on future DLC but I found a lot of them to have had no repercussions or relevance at all. E.g choosing to drill for water for this other group on EOS instead of gas for the colony. The decision was never mentioned again one way or the other! 8) The story didn't have the kind of pacing that the trilogy had. That's almost certainly because of its open world nature and the desire not to punish the player for wanting to explore it but you can't get away from the fact that if you let the player dictate the pace instead of the story dictating the pace then the story and the impact of the story is going to suffer. I don't want to come across too negative. I still voted Good, I found the game pretty compelling and enjoyable and I'm looking forward to my re-play and to future DLC. I just think they missed the boat on a few things that would have made it Great.

I thought the game was somewhere between good and great! I'm a bioware fan. I purchase from bioware day one and play the games from start to finish. This game was no different. I will attempt to be as honest as I can: I do understand that I am biased. I do like to see the silver lining in games. I understand that people work incredibly hard making these games; excessive time away from family and home, with no real home life balance. So, I try to be fair, even with games that are lackluster. This one is not in the end.
I was incredibly bored the first few hours, yes. I didn't like the characters I was forced with at the beginning. Then, the character list grew and so did the enjoyment of the game. I found myself enjoying all of the characters, getting excited to talk to my crew mates, chatting to everyone including random NPCs, and not wanting the game play to end. There were a few graphical issues, but nothing to cause me to put the game down.
The storyline is not as strong as the original trilogy was, but we have to remember that that was a trilogy. They had three games to build up the storyline. This is just the beginning. I recall drudging through the first Mass Effect when I was not pushing the storyline forward because I truly did not enjoy the Mako and exploring on those similar looking planets with all the same buildings. Truth be told, the Nomad is awesome and the planets have amazing detail.
I honestly enjoyed how the quests were long and put on hold at times so we could finish them later. I truly enjoyed the wait. I also liked how other characters were involved in a quest. Liam was a prime example.
For me, this game did a lot of things right. It did show how people are in real life. We are very focused on what makes us who we are. Examples were: Cora with being a prior commando and her Idol, Drack and Vetra with their specific family members, and Peebee with her tech. This is very much human nature and people forget this. People also forgot that they traveled to a whole different system without their families. Of course they held onto what made them remember home.
I only encountered one mission that I was unable to finish and it was not a major issue or part of the plot to advance the story. As for the facial expressions, it was fine for me. I did have two Jaals standing in front of me naked once but I would never complain about having two Jaals.
The game didn't deserve the heat it received. I enjoyed it and will be playing it again without a doubt. I did sink in about 80 hours. The more you advance, just as with the first for me, the more you enjoy. I hope they are able to make a sequel. I truly loved this game and would buy another without a second thought.

Finished the game yesterday & I voted good. It could have been better & I think this will be the only ME I won't do again multiple time.
The story was ok, could have been really good, but some parts doesn't feel right / out of context like Liam's loyalty mission, really didn't like the "light tone". They tried too much for some happy/fun moments & it didn't work for me, break the immersion imo (only liked the movie night). Something didn't feels right either with the rhythm of the narration, not sure what, the fact that it's the same patern for every major world? Or maybe too much side quest? (at least side quests are more interesting than in DA:I, most of the time they give us more details in the background of the game). Also it feels like the choices I made didn't really matter in the game or have no real consequences & most of the time, your options feels like being the same. A lot of things are left without answers, but kinda normal I guess they aimed for a MEA2. If it doesn't happen, I hope at least they will try to give us answers in a dlc.
I didn't really enjoyed the team. I like Scott even if he seems helpless most of the time & I would liked him more if he was a little more "mature". Liam speak way too much (had trouble to understand him most of the time, I'm french but I prefer to play with english voice acting & I was happy to have subtitles when Liam speaks). I won't even speak of Cora, god if you didn't understand she was in an asari commando, you must be deaf & blind. I only enjoyed the compagny of Jaal & Drack. Liked Gil (but his romance is pretty meh with the baby thing :x) & Kallo too. Wish Reyes was a squademate, he was one of the most interesting npc of the game.
Combat system is meh, jump is a cool feat, but I didn't really use it (easy target, too much damage taken from ennemies). I really didn't like to not be able to give orders to squademates, I really don't understand why they did that, biggest mistake. Also, I didn't use the profile system (cooldown ... >.>), I would have prefered they let us use more power like before, I spent 99% of the game with the same 3 power, kinda boring. Nice thing is that the battles are more dynamic.
Overall, I enjoyed the game but it miss polishing, that's pretty clear, the facial expression really bother me (won't comeback on that subject). The game have a lot of performance issues, really bad optimisation, some glitch but not that much. The story could have been better, the music is not bad but not great either, don't think I'll remember any track. They should have give to the game 1 more year of dev (or let Edmonton help them rather than have them focussing on Anthem, the solo team on a mutiplayer game & the multiplayer team on a solo game, really odd choice ...)

I loved ME:A. Tbh, it's not the best ME game and it had a rocky, bug-filled launch, but it is my favorite ME game thus far. It deserves the "great" rating it got from me. *continues playing ME:A*

Just finished yesterday. Sorry, not investing $60 in a game so...incomplete.
The bugs, including the animations, are the reason I say it was incomplete.
The story is layered with mediocrity and is a template that has been repeated by other games --- but, it's entertaining enough.
I still like the overall premise and the ground that was covered, but there were strong opportunities missed here. For example: life. Our own galaxy had so much life to it. It had a nice variety of life. Andromeda, on the other hand, features creatures that are just different colors and 1 alien race. In a game that was said to have it's own identity, why would they bring back all of the familiar races? They had to recreate all of the art assets because they switched over to Frostbite, so, it can't be that it was just easier to go with that. There's more diversity of life here on Earth than in a cluster of planets in another galaxy? If they were going to start over, then they should have done just that. You can season the human ark with all of the nostalgia races you want and that would have been fine, but...uh...I digress.
The honest to goodness biggest complaint I have is about characters. BioWare has always done exceptionally well with building characters. You used to be able to go to the old BSN boards and find the Tali zora thread and see these polarizing views or disturbing fan art on just this one character. Or the "bromance" between Shepard and Garrus. Or the mentor relationship between Shepard and Anderson. Where is that here? There's no relationships established by this game other than the one that involves romance. I can't remember half of the characters in this game. Cora, the obvious Asari commando type, actually had something going on with her as far as a different relationship dynamic (rival)...but one?
With that said, it may seem like I'm hating on this game. I'm not. I have...complaints, but I'm glad I bought it. I really liked the weapons and armor upgrades. The variety was pretty nice. The art was impressive most of the time. And I...this is tough to admit...I liked Pebe.
I've had conversations about this game (before playing it) and I won't change what I said: don't listen to critics. If you think a game is entertaining, then it was worth the buy. And I played this game more than Inquisition, so...it gets a "good" vote from me.

This game is okay, it's nothing amazing. The gameplay is good but the whole experience is dragged down by a mediocre story and boring writing.I'm tempted to say that if they knew Andromeda would turn out like this, they shouldn't have bothered making it.

SPOILERS - DO NOT READ FURTHER UNLESS YOU'RE PREPARED FOR SPOILERS.
Well, I'm finally through my first playthrough... although my playthrough involved many instances of going back and force to replay various sections of the game differently to understand what sort of differences different choices of dialogue might make in the story.
If there is one word that can describe a game as massive as ME:A, I think it's "potential." The story has a massive amount of potential to develop along a wife varieity of different routes and to carry forward a wide variety of different themes. As a result, the game itself, in the end, does feel somewhat incomplete. Hopefully, Bioware will find a way to create a sequal and/or, if that's not going to happen, to produce some story-based DLC that completes some of the story lines that were really emerging at the end of the game.
The game has been highly criticized for using an assortment of one-liners. I personally did not find this to be a problem. Many of them are dependent on individual dialogue choices combined with the resulting "psych profile" of the PC. I found the lighter mood of the tutorial section on Habitat 7 (which irritated some people who used the 10-hour early access trial) was quickly made far more sombre after landing on Eos and exploring Site 1 and 2 there... particularly if the player moves more slowly through those sections of the game, allowing the tone of the various datapads found and the tone of the squad's comments to sink in. The game then becomes a story of resilience and recovery. Embedded in that is the treat of being able to slowly discover the intricacies of a couple of new cultures within a Mass Effect game rather than just getting a cursory info-dump (a la ME1). Again, the datapads and myriad of small side-quest stories present on Voeld can really set a sombre tone and provide a lot of background information that, I found at least, really connected me emotionally to the plight of the angara.
The presentation of the Archon as the "boss" villain in the game is somewhat weak... although I actually have a theory that he converts himself into the Architect that is at the center of the final battle in the game and I believe that fight does not end until the player manages to take down that final architect (making it a boss fight with the Archon himself). I may be mistaken here and will be looking to pay better attention when I replay the game (which I do play to do almost immediately).
Overall, I was glad I waited to start the game until after some of the issues with it had been patched. Overall, I noted very, very few actual bugs remaining... just a couple of places where the dialogue did not seem to acknowledge what the player had or had not done yet in the way of quests, a few issues related to framerate drops (but nothing really signifcantly worse than I've experienced in most other games I've played), and the normal range of "intersection" issues. I was able to complete all the que Tsts that appeared in my journal and I had a longer list of quests in the end than I've found on any of the lists I've seen on the internet. There was only one quest listed online "Running a Fever" that I could not complete... but this quest does not even appear as having been started in my journal... so, I'm thinking it may actually be cut content rather than a bug.
Overall, I generally prefer the more linear design of the Trilogy over the more open-world design of ME:A. I also generally prefer games that are shorter in length than ME:A. As a result, I would give the ME Trilogy a higher score overall; but I still find ME:A to be a game very worthy of carrying the Mass Effect name. I'm sure I will replay it many times over.
I found the combat difficulty to be just right for me and a hellish amount of fun throughout the entire game. This first playthrough was done on normal difficulty for the most part, with occasional increases in the difficulty - particularly when repeating sections of the game to use different dialogue since being familiar with a battles made things easier. I will be definitely using a higher difficulty on my next run for a bit added challenge.

I'm someone who usually plays just one game at a time and plays it to death. I played ME3MP right up to the point MEA dropped came through my letterbox. I'm dropping MEA today. I'm not some moron proclaiming I will "Never buy another Bioware game" but they've lost their shine. I certainly won't be pre-ordering another or buying it on day one. Just bought HZD (Horizon Zero Dawn) and the contrast with MEA is stark. The game oozes with detail and you can see the care and attention in every frame. The animations are superb, the game play varied and the graphics, even in lowly PS4 HD, are jaw dropping. Never mind The Witcher (which I didn't rate) HZD shows that there are still great games from studios who aren't just phoning it in. Not only is HZD superior to MEA but it also betters DAI (IMHO) - [sorry to Xbox players - I hate console exclusives too]. From all the news related to various staff being moved between EA studios to work on first person shooters and other pointless grunt fodder, it seems that BW has finally been completely absorbed into the EA collective. I look forward to Mass Effect Need for Speed II. Over and out.

My take on the game is rather simple.
Its a "OK/Good" game, but at the same time its the weakest of Mass Effect stories. Yes, stories since even the trilogy felt like every part of it was properly handling an individual chunk of the whole thing.
ME:A gives this blatant feel, that they indeed were in haste. After losing around 2,5 years for making prototypes, they reached the deadline where they realized if this is not meant to be scrapped, then they need to just go for typical "sandbox with quests" pathway. So they had only ~1,5 year to make ME:A - and it shows.
A lot seems hasted, the dialogue seems like it was written by tired people who only had access to weak coffee. To be honset, I don't put the blame on the dev team itself, no doubt those were fans of the franchise too, but with such limited time and chaos in the developement process, they could pull off only as much.
ME:A is now a game for multiplayer for me. I can't even force myself to revisit singleplayer again, which is sad, as I would love to have characters like Vetra and Drack further expanded upon.

I finally got what this game reminds me of. It is a giant full priced Citadel DLC with people you barely know.

Beat the game twice now, decided to ignore a lot of the tasks, I would say that the game was good, but HOLY SHIT was this game flawed. I feel that this game needed several more months in development.

While this is a good example of better RPG design, we should note that the trilogy didn't track companion approval of Shepard either. This can explain why Dragon Age is better than Mass Effect, but not why ME:A is worse than the trilogy. I don't see the problem, but I suppose this properly belongs on a spoiler board.

Finished the game once. 105 hours with 98% complete. Now playing some MP. Good game, solid 7/10.
