I have not touched any of my UR characters because I wanted to wait until they are at X but I am getting impatient, so compared to X how many points would be missing for a VI?

Might be a long time....I have a character at four and when I get to 20 I will be missing 15 points...so you will probably be missing slightly less...
I can make three full skill trees, leave point in one in another one and put 6 points (first three options) of another ....
They are still super playable...just sucks you can't max out four skill trees...

My human female adept VI has 15 points to spend at level 1 while my male X had 25 points. So 10 points I guess.

You get 4 extra skill points every other rank (rank II, IV etc) for a maximum of 20 extra skill points. So at rank VI you have 12 and will get another 8 by rank X.
Once you max out your character to level 20 and rank X they will have 85 skill points allowing for a 6/6/6/6/1 build or whatever variant on that you like.

Even at I (one) you should be able to come out with a viable build for Gold by Level 20. Therefore you aren't missing anything.

I think it is a little bit more, or I am misunderstanding something. My level 1 / rank I toons have 2 spared skill points. My level 1 / rank X toons have 25 spared skill points. The bonus skill points yielded by even cards should thus be 23 unless I miss something. It should also not be evenly distributed across the ranks, for obvious reasons. But as I said, I might miss something.

But as I said, I might miss something. You are right sorry, what I wrote is not quite correct. I think the following is actually how it works: One skill point is put into each power as default(so three). Then you are given two additional skill points at level one to do with what you wish. So a rank I level 1 characters starts with 5 skill points. Then you receive 3 skill points every level so a rank I level 20 character has 62 skill points. Rank II and Rank IV give an 4 additional skill points each. Ranks VI, VIII and X give an additional 5 skill points each. Therefore total additional skill points are 23, added to the 62 gives 85. So technically at rank I you can only max two skills making the ranks very important. Hopefully I have got it just about correct this time.

But hopefully it's reasonably correct.

At level 1 and upgrade X you have 3 points already allocated and 25 points to apply. Every level 1-20 gives you 3 points. So from leveling you get a total of 60 (3*20) and from upgrade X you get 25, for a total of 85.
Which gives you the ability to build a 66661 or 66635 with one left over.

depends on the skills you choose because the powers already have the 1 point assigned.
points to fill out a skill, 1=1, 2=3, 3=6, 4=10, 5=15, 6=21, with 60 points .. and no upgrade cards (ie the extra 25)
6 - 21 points 6 - 21 Points 1 - 1 Points 0 - 0 Points 5 - 15 Points
leaving 2 left over for another skill upgrade, could be wrong but i think the second upgrade card (II) gives 6 points.

Can you do quick math for what's the max possible build options for grade I characters? With a lvl 20 rank I the you can have the follow combos just in terms of ranks: 2 skills at 5 and 3 at 4. 2 skills at rank 6, 1 at rank 4, 3 and 1. 2 at rank 6 1 at rank 5 and 2 at rank 1. 2 rank 6, 1 rank 5, 1 rank 2 and a zero. Then there's 4 5 & 6 option A or B choices. which multiple the possible number of builds by 2 for each one. The number of possible builds is crazy just the 2x5 +3x4 option alone has 640 possible builds. For all of them it in the 10,000+ range.
