Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't melee directional in ME3MP?
If an enemy came at you from the rear (insert joke and penii here) you could hold back and hit the melee button, right? It would execute the melee to the rear at the enemy?
In MEAMP, if I try that, I just melee the wall in front of me.
Or am I thinking of another game?
P.S. I guess I could jump and perform a melee in that situation. But sometimes a good face stabbing is the only answer to a "Contact Rear".

Some have an AoE melee, e.g. Asari/Geth, when others are directional, e.g. Krogan.

you had to spin around and melee the enemy in ME3 as well.

you had to spin around and melee the enemy in ME3 as well. Thanks. But it was just a stick to the rear and then melee, right? It didn't seem to be working for me. Like I was pinned in the corner. I finally just hit jump and melee to get out of dodge.

Without a controller ( mouse / keyboard ) it was definitely "Do a 180, then melee". Never played on console / with controller.

Regardless, melee is buggy and unreliable in this game, and much worse than ME3

Thanks guys. I'll need to make a conscious effort next time to really see.
Absolutely possible it was just me being a spaz.

melee being directional is fine (and best imo) but bioware is so ass they somehow made it even worse than lock-on melee combat.

Geth, asari and destroyer were AOE melee. Demolisher was a frontal cone. Most were directional. The melee tracking was a lot better to me which is why you would have baterians surfing half the map to hit an enemy.

Yes, it didn't seem to have to be as...precise. But again, could just be me being rusty.

Melee in ME3 locked into the target, so you wouldn't miss (unless there was smoke or any other bullshit that somehow interrupt the "locking-on" feature). In MEA it doesn't lock, which makes the player miss a hell of a lot, in fact if the enemy moves left or right whilst you're performing a melee attack, you'll miss. That didn't happen in ME3.
Although melee deals much more damage in ME:A (due to every attack being heavy melee basically), the lack of lock-on feature and how awful slow the animation is, makes me dislike it.
