I'm a pretty much a noob, played a little of ME1 and a little of ME 2.
Playing on INSANE (what the hell, I like a challenge)
So initially I was really impressed. I knew going in about the weird facial animations,so I was ready - but not that bad.. atmosphere is excellent.
The dialogue seemed exciting with regard to making me think 'wow, will how I talk to folks really shape how they feel about me and ultimately my own story' .... I mean I have no idea? Isn't that the point of these games?
So far things seem pretty slick. I dig how your father resembles your character that you created, quite clever I appreciated that.
Squad commands are just how I like it... can set up some great tactical positioning! Simple and easy!
My only major gripes so far,
1) biggest gripe - playing on XBONE, fps seem to dip into the 20s... it's not the smoothest. 2) I'm sure as I progress this will become less of an issue - but combat seems slightly clunky - the absence of a crouch is especially jarring. But we'll see how that pans out. 3) Enemy AI is decent, my gripe is that like some games they are tethered to the location they spawn in so don't chase you too far, which is a shame...
But so far I'm liking it.

Always good to read positive input on this awesome game. Seems a lot of people want to only see the negative, but I really enjoy it. Finished it on Normal first and now I'm replaying on Insanity. The challenge on Insanity makes the combat even more fun and engaging.

Performance on both consoles is quite poor at times. Definitely not specific to your Xbox
Is combat clunky because of the framerate? Mine drops quite a bit during combat too. Not really sure a crouch is needed given how natural the glancing into cover is, and how mobile the combat is trying to be. That's just a personal thing though.
Fair point about the enemy AI on planets. I prefer it this way. Especially early, when you are slogging through long trecks on a planet, the last thing you want is a bunch of mobs following you everywhere.
GReat input though. Thanks for sharing.

OP I know you won't get this, but be thankful of no omnibutton. You don't understand the definition of clunky until you play with the omnibutton.

I think it's early days - I suspect combat will begin to feel better the more I acclimatise to it...
I definately think tho especially initially not having crouch feels wrong... and yeah combat does feel s bit clunky... not due too fps drops...
I hope fps drops aren't too regular, that could impact things quite negatively..
Are they planning on improving/ patching the poor performance??? On console I mean..
Yeah enemies im the first area... I hid in the alien ship... they ran right up to the door but 'couldn't' go through... plus you don't have to go very far before they give up the chase... it's s minor quibble..

The challenge on Insanity makes the combat even more fun and engaging. Is it much harder at a higher level? I thought I'd better start on normal too but I've played all the MEs and am finding it too easy really - not a challenge with the combat. I thought I'd probably prefer hardcore. The only thing putting me off is the thought of going through everything I've already done again. I know, not quite the point if you replay, but I've not got that far and want to go forwards and not back.

I'm doing well because I started Insanity as a level 50 so I had a ton of abilities already. I can see it being a pain (but also fun) starting Insanity at level 1. My squadmates die a lot. If you feel confident though, I'd say give it a go. You can always lower the difficulty if you find it's too much.

Mmmm...
You know what, I think I was hasty in getting this game. The performance issues are impacting my enjoyment. Firstly, wow, it's quite buggy isn't it? Getting stuck on scenery, so as to have to restart. My squad mate floating or getting frozen?? And then there's just overall performance, like I said the game generally is not the smoothest, it does slow down into the 20s...
Conclusion, I knew I should've waited for a sale. Paying £50 for a game that the peforms this poorly and is this buggy was a massive mistake.
But that said, I do get the sense that if you're willing to push on through the bugs, the crappy frame rates, then there is a decent game waiting for you.
But frankly I shouldn't have to wade through these kind of issues in order to get to a decent game. I think it's absolutely disgusting how the game industry today seem to be making a habit of these practices, releasing games in unfinished states.... this is now a worrying trend and certainly on the increase. I remember it wasn't so long ago that you would buy a game and it would work as it was supposed to.
What a crap state of affairs!

I remember when games launched as is and bug fixes were never a thing or they happened very few often in occurances. I understand you and agree 110% tho. Games come out to buggy, even worse when you have a day one patch as it means the devs knew it was buggy but launched it anyways.

Beside the issues .... I do love tactically manuevering my squad around the battle field. Great fun
This game would benefit from a tactical/bird eye view tho -- and I think it was a mistake to take out that pause the action to give commands from ME1...
