I like the hub just fine but you can tell... you can TELL the Badlands area and its quests are done by the SWTOR team, even the enemy scripting.
In DA:I The Descent which was also co-Austin made you could tell it was Austin because the new enemies in it had a certain stiffness to them and sometimes no transitional animations within their movesets. It created that Quality MMO NPC flavor to them and I'm experiencing some of this on Kadara too. The quests sink to the absolute lowest level of effort with a murder thing where you have to find 5 bodies across the entire map just to pick up the trail, the terrain collissions feel notably worse than any other place I've been in the game thus far and the enemies react strangely sometimes, like something is just off about this area. It doesn't help it's the most tonally "whatever" series of quests you get. Ryder/Pathfinder is whatever the flying fuck the writers want him to be on this planet so you get a murder mystery and he even jokes "so I'm a detective now?" and they joke "Well you're finding the culprit, right?" and lastly this area does not feel like something from Mass Effect at all! It feels like KOTOR.
I kept thinking "why does this feel like KOTOR? Why does this feel like KO--that's it! It's the SWTOR team, oh god."
And then I checked it up and surely enough, Coutney Woods who, despite also writing Lexi, is an Austin-based writer and she wrote a bunch of the quests you stumble into on this planet.
I didn't fully get what big of a deal the alleged "wildly inconsistent level of quality" critique meant until I started exploring this area. It doesn't help that so far none of the quests I've found via NPC dialogues had an option to say "no. I don't have time" unlike other quests in the game. There was literally a tree where it's like "1. Why do you need me?, 2. Tell me about this. 3. I'll do it." but no "I don't give a shit" choice when the quest was the lowest tier of DA:I crap like "Oh no! My husband is gone, where is he, can you find him?"
I found a whopping 2 or maybe even 3 Inquisition quests on this planet that revolve around absent family members. This is the DA:I-ness at its finest. Don't ever do this again BioWare.

I found a whopping 50 quests that were Mass Effect 1 quests! Involving AI, robots, space and alien invasions!

But let me guess, those quests had a tick-box saying "go here, 1/3, go here 2/3, go here 3/3" and then a cutscene, right? ME1 had the decency to keep things consise:
Hackett contacts you in orbit, informs you about the situation You land on the planet and fine the place "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE", "GO GO GO!", "I will destroy you!" Then you have a chat or you press a panel and a text-box appears Then squad says closing words or you get back on the ship and Hackett thanks you. NOTE: Choices usually involved more than 2 options, like persuasion and could result in turning all friendly NPCs hostile.
It felt like stories. This game has some of these like on Voeld and Eos and probably anywhere that isn't Kadara. This place as soon as you exit the hub and the slums feels like garbage-tier MMO questing.

Then they deserve the raise because Kadara had the least barebone fetch quests, most meaty side quests with best stories and presentation (most dialogues with cinematic conversations)

That's an interesting theory. It certainly sticks out as a somewhat different area, the terrain is less detailed, land in civilian area, doors take longer to open (guess this is what previewers played at some point), some unmarked missions, and so on. I just assumed it was one of the earlier areas to be made.

I don't get it, you just pointed out why the ME1 side quests where absolute ass but somehow they are better even though they are shorter, more repetative in both gameplay and location with even less dialogue most of the time, and about as fetch quest as you can get. But somehow they felt like stories when the quests on Kadera don't? Hackett mostly just sent you an email, why is that better than going to an NPC? When was the last time you actually played ME1?

Man, I wish he was back at the helm of Mass Effect. He returned to BioWare Austin just over a year ago, but stated explicitly that it was to work on SWTOR.

Man, I wish he was back at the helm of Mass Effect. I've also noticed a few things that reminded me of SWTOR so I guess it must've been Bioware Austin's touch on the game, which is fine with me. I love SWTOR, despite not being a huge fan of MMOs. And yeah Drew is in Austin now. For the next game maybe not let Austin take it over completely (they still gotta work on SWTOR), but I wouldn't mind them taking a more active role in development, supporting the Montreal team. It's a chance for them to show they can make great content outside of an MMO setting and the horrible engine SWTOR has to work with.

Uh, Kadara was probably the best part of the game. A hub with lots of Interesting dialogue, and the Badlands that was just the right size and had lots of great quests to it. So kudos to Austin!

Kadara was the first (maybe only?) planet in this game that actually felt interesting and like a proper Mass Effect designed planet.
The quests were a joke, numerically, but at least the terrain was half-decent, and the local story was fairly compelling too.
I generally liked working through the conflict between the Outcasts and the Collective. Interesting end to that story arch, and one that I hope carries over later in the game.
