My answer to this is things change over the course of development; however I am sad to see this feature go. I've been saving mission funds (after buying both equipment) for the next rotation and it would have nice if weapons or characters could appear in there alongside the equipment as a guaranteed way to get the items, even if you could only buy them once as a way to get one extra level on that gun or character or to even just unlock it.
I hope they add it in in the future or add weapons and/or character packs into the store via credits.

Btw, I'm not accusing them of lying or anything, I'm not into this kind of drama. It's just a shame that such a game changer feature was cut and left the store in a quite useless state. Once equipment are done, it will sit there selling something we already have piles of.

Eh, it would have been really nice to be able to bypass the RNG of the packs, but at least I can pretty much stop sending out strike teams after the next 4 pieces of equipment.

They should let you buy ranks for ultra rare characters you've already unlocked in the mission funds store. Not unlock the character, that could still only come from packs. But rank them up.
There has to be some way to rank them up that isn't just from packs. Right now it sucks having a UR class at rank 1 and it's missing 23 skill points. Maybe make it so each rank you buy for a character makes the cost for the next rank up for that character more pricey. Maybe the rank up from 9 to 10 is something like 5000 mission funds, might be a bit much but whatever, that's just an example, the costs and price increase for each rank can be worked out. Might as well do something with the mission funds store since like you said, it's been pretty disappointing.

Then they need to god dam fix those packs 😑tired of getting only consumeables out of the 100k packs... should be ultra rare guaranteed when you got all rares..

They changed it. Endless RNG for N7 is how they plan to earn, so will never change. (credit to acicm2)<script charset="UTF-8" src="chrome://YTAutoHD720p/content/YTAutoHD720p.js" type="application/javascript"></script>

You can pretty much open a 50k pack after every gold match, although I pretty much stick to silvers because I don't have any friends who play this game.

No surprises there.
I had the impression that this will be the case when I saw the store and the only thing you could buy was consumables and some gear. In the MP stream they did right before launch, one of them said once more that mission founds will be used to buy different things from the manifest and that they will have a rotation so today you'll have this item, tomorrow you'll have this other and so on.
What a lie. Worst part is that the game is even more grindy than ME3 was, and ME3 was grindy as fuck. RNG is just dumb, that's the best they can come up with to keep people interested? make it so they have to grind their asses for almost a thousand hours to complete the manifest because everything is randomly awarded, how creative.

Utter bs.
Locking skill points and characters behind luck of a ridiculous rng grind us not the way to keep players hooked.
Instead it just creates frustration and actually it's forcing me away from multiplayer because I simply can't be arsed with the insane timesink (or insane amount of money) playing what I don't want in order to have access to play what I do want.
Better to wait until EA stops supporting the game then modify it to give yourself enough credits to unlock everything. I don't see the point in grinding the hours right now compared with casual play.
