So I'm writing some fan fiction right now and this question kind of came up in the process. Sometimes, in fiction, you'll have authors mention someone or something smelling of gunpowder. Now, obviously, the weapons in the Mass Effect universe no longer use gunpoweder but I was wondering if there's any way for us to know whether they'd have their own sort of tell-tale smell associated with them? Or would they just not smell of anything or would every weapon smell different depending on what it's made of?

Is that for your Reyes fanfic? I wish I could truly help you, but I'm not too familiar with the weapons situation. I think the codex (likely from ME1) mentions that weapons use metal blocks to fire projectiles in the thousands, so perhaps it could be a metallic smell? At some point though, while Shepard was dead, they also switched to thermal clips to prevent overheating in the old weapons. Depending on what you want to use in your story... perhaps it's just either metal smell or a heated smell. No idea about the material's smell, but maybe metal as well. Stay metal

My guess is that it would smell like an electric heater. The weapons generate a lot of heat, as evidenced by the thermal clips. Most weapons also seem to be some sort of energy beam.

Thanks ! Burned metal it is then . Is that for your Reyes fanfic? It is for a Reyes fan fic, yes, though not the one I mentioned previously (that one will probably be a rather long one which is intimidating me a bit so I haven't started it yet ).
