Charge, hip fire to face with equalizer, repeat with occasional nova thrown in and lots of jump dashing...
This character works on gold even when played super aggressively. You may use your gels but it works well..I would run a power efficiency mod III on gold and your charge cools down so fast you can get in some very sticky situations and live. I spec for 100% shield restored and the damage reduction and anywhere else for power recharge...also that shield restoration in the final health tree...
If you aren't flying around the map full octane, use a Turian soldier. Assault rifles are meant for him, not human vanguards.

What gun would you recommend for a human vanguard? All the common weapons are pretty bad, so I'd just go with the Katana X with a melee mod. Haven't gotten to test any of the uncommon weapons besides the Raptor 1 which melts stuff pretty good, but it doesnt have a melee mod so don't use that =P

I...have never played multiplayer before, aside from a mission or so in ME3 and in DAI to test it out. It was never for me. And when I first started Andromeda, I thought I would feel the same way. Then I got introduced to the Vanguard. CHARGE CHARGE CHARGE NOVA NOVA NOVA (shockwave is kinda useless though). THEN MELEE MELEE MELEE. I've been playing for 6 hours straight I rarely need to use guns (except when defending hacking, devices). I have only played on Bronze so far and I've levelled up all the way to level 14. I'm really digging it. My question is, I'm really not very good but for some reason I'm always 1 or 2 in the leaderboard after the game. Even though I die a lot. Is that...okay? Sometimes, I leave my teammates and just charge every thing I see. I don't know, is there some etiquette when it comes to MP that you don't charge all the time? Sometimes I also still kills, is that okay? I kinda feel like I'm cheating as charge replenishes shields but I don't know. Any tips for further levelling up the Vanguard? I noticed a Krogan Vanguard though instead of shockwave he has fortify -- is that better? If its not an Asari Vanguard. You just arent doing it right.

A MP etiquette in ME...
Well, there certainly is one. But there are things that come with experience, mostly. The etiquette is not so much about about stealing kills (that is okay) but more about things like controlling the enemy spawns and the AI to give your team a favorable position. For example, you may want to lure away some of the annoying enemies during an objective and give your team an easier time defending a control point/device.
One of the etiquette rules in MEMP coming from time of ME3 would be do not force yourself into the objective area if the place is crowded with enemies. The standard procedure to do is lure the AI away from the objective and come back later. This is a classic and most easily understood move for extraction. You obviously don't want to camp extraction, but run away and spread the enemy around the map and run towards extraction in the last 30 seconds. You also do not kill or missile enemies on other side of the map when your team is busy with an objective. It may seem like you're helping, but what you're doing is simply making even more of the enemy spawn on top of your teammates if you've just nuked a spawn on the other side of the map. In these cases it is suggested to delay and control the enemy position in favor of securing the objective over killing the enemies.
Another etiquette would be proper use of consumables. While not using a res pack and missiles is frowned upon, wasting them is almost just as bad. Speed runs are another thing if things are going really well, but specially now in the begining - that most of us still have crap guns and low rank characters, savoring consumables for best use when you *really* need them is generally a good idea.
It is generally okay not to use a res pack if the wave is about to end and you're confident your team is not in trouble and can handle the rest. We rather see you have that res pack available later when we really need you to get up and there's no chance to get you up manually.

The 'headless chicken charge everything' style works!
But I feel the 'next level' in vanguarding (on gold & with better guns), is sticking close to the gunners/snipers, making sure no baddies are allowed to get too close to them. Mostly saving charge for those 'oh shit' moments.

Mostly saving charge for those 'oh shit' moments. This is what I used to in my modded ME3 games that could get ultra difficult with the enemy spawns. Not necessarilly a Vanguard, but any class that can do well in tight quarters and cc the enemy if it comes close to protect your squishies. I ussually played a Krogan Warlord and stay put with my hammer until something really scary came close. A bad way of playing him would be for example doing a Leeroy running around the map by yourself, and making your team come res you when you fail. At least with my mods you really couldn't afford to do this, but it also applies for normal games to a degree. Sometimes you just really needed a guy to protect your team from getting overwhelmed up close, but in vanilla (or in MEA) not to the same extreme. It was fun, however, trying the extreme version.
