I got to stick it up her bum. At that point, whatever she says or tries to say or be doesn't really matter

I can't honestly comment on Cora, because I played on the PS4 and I raged quit because of the near-constant black-screen glitch that keeps appearing during transitions. However, I would like to support Bioware on the fact, in general, they've treated the Alliance military as I would expect to be seeing a technological advanced military complete with a chain of command. The inspection process of the Normandy SR-2 by that Admiral felt pretty genuine. (one of my thoughts when landing the SR-2 was: Did anyone think to consider that this is a non-regulation ship and needs to be inspected. They did. In my opinion, the worst offenders of portraying the military is Bethesda's Fallout 3. They nailed the Enclave, but the Brotherhood of Steel looked like a raider establishment and the Outcasts (I guess, they believe they're the real BOS) looked like a raider camp as well. It's immersion and if you're familiar with a subject like military life, when details are wrong... you're out of the immersion. However, thank you Bethesda for modding! My Citadel looks good-to-go along with Fort Independence in FO4. Oblivion did a nice job and showed how hard it is to keep troops supplied across a vast expanse in New Vegas. Plenty of mops, buckets, white paint, clean floors and dress-right-dress is what I hope to see. Don't you mean SR-1? That was in Mass Effect 1. I agree about that however. You're right! It was the SR-1. Thank you. I'm going to edit that now.

She ends up admitting this herself, later on into her dialogue. I did romance her so am unsure whether it's part of her normal dialogue or romance dialogue, but she comes to learn this of herself later on in the story at least. I know but at that point I am already so annoyed that damage is already done. It works really well for the romance. Maybe a bit over cooked but she hints at not wanting to come off that way. When she finally says it, it works

Yes, it's somewhat in line with what I took from her character very early too. She got cast out of that group she felt defined her but you can tell she's sort of an outcast, the only human amongst asari, and it makes you wonder what drove her to wanting that life. It's what makes her compelling IMO and her regret over being rejected first by them and then Alec not giving her the Pathfinder role. It's also one of many more flowery and poetic reasons for going to another Galaxy and leaving a former life behind.
But like so many things in the game it didn't go into the thick of it as I wanted it to. It mentions just enough so that you can empathize with her and form your ideas about what makes her tick but her Loyalty mission doesn't really go where it would've been really intersting to be IMO. Instead, it's more about her finding her Asari friends and proving herself to them and then there's the whole deception thing with Sarissa and... honestly it felt more like a side-plot in relation to Cora's backstory than anything which at least tapped into the themes about her having a connection to the Asari.
I'm hoping DLC or Andromeda 2 can show Cora more coming to terms with not necessarily having to be like Asari.
It's also funny because the story the Reddit guy gives is something I relate to as someone who was known as a nerd in middle school until I decided to join a band and take on a different school in 10th grade for a year and I thought that made me special too for a while but looking back it was sort of the same as Cora where I was just insecure about it. I think many people go through that.

Honestly, I suspect that most everything he saw in her character was purely an accident on Bioware's part. They don't seem like the type that really know much about the military and post military life if you know what I mean. But I'm ex-navy and still work for the navy as a civilian and I can tell you one thing. Way too many navy Chiefs get out and come to work here and think they still hold their active duty rank. They can't grasp that no one gives a fuck except other lazy ex-chiefs. There is a thread on another forum where someone was complaining about ex-chiefs and how much he hates them...it's amazing how many butthurt ex-chiefs found that post and ranted in it. Are you saying Bioware engineers couldn't have come from a military background, let alone writers? What makes you think that Bioware employees couldn't possibly have a military perspective?

I get the gist of the article and it explained some aspects about Cora but she's still not well written, to me. Cora turned me straight off after the ninth repeat highlighting her asari commando days with so and so; chapter, verse, hymm. I want to learn more about other stuff about you than your glory days of the seeming only human to run with asari commandos and hearing you persistently citing other people's achievements / ability. Who are you? What are you? Why are you chosen as a plausible pathfinder? Is it just solely because you ran with asari commandos? I clenched my head listening to her and then I totally tuned her out and refused to chat with her any more than I had to.
I ran with a female Ryder in the first PT and had thought of going with the male Ryder for Cora in the second PT. That went into the dustbin pretty fast as I progressed further into the game. By the end of it, I had no interest in doing another PT. If I do, it will just solely be for the combat, not for the chars and not for the story. Not much of an incentive.

Are you saying Bioware engineers couldn't have come from a military background, let alone writers? What makes you think that Bioware employees couldn't possibly have a military perspective? Not saying you're wrong, but most of the people that work for Bioware are Canadian and Canada's military doesn't even come to six digits in terms of number of people serving. It's a pretty small military that also isn't quite as extreme in personality/lifestyle control. Also just judging from previous titles, they made choices that clearly showed a lack of military knowledge as do most game, movies, and television...it's just too many fine details that ultimately bog down story telling and most people don't care about. Ashley Williams goes from a senior NCO to an officer from ME2-ME3...Okay fine, battlefield commissions are a thing...maybe her contract was up and she negotiated OCS for a re-up...that happens too. I think the official reason was because they thought she needed a rank befitting a Spectre. So they promote her from a chief to a Lt. Commander... within less than six months between ME2-ME3. That's pretty crazy...and while my military history is amateur at best, I'm pretty confident that hasn't really happened in a modern military, or if it has it must be pretty damn rare.

It's the same way with vegans and people who don't watch TV. They won't shut the fuck up about it. Btw, you know what marines just love? Being called soldiers. Try it, it's fun!

Blarg the overreaction from them when that happens... People don't know or care about the differences. They just know you have a uniform, a gun (excuse me...a "weapon"), and do a lot of push-ups. Anything else goes in one ear and out the other...and rightfully so. I can't remember the difference between Junior Executive Assistant to the Regional Supervisor and the Executive Junior Assistant to Managerial Supervisions....

There are lots of programs that can take you from enlisted to officer...but you still start as an Ensign / 2nd Lt, no way she had time to get promoted that fast. TV and Movies usually tend to hire an consultant for military stuff...when they don't it really shows, games rarely do this. If you ever want to see a TV show with no military advisor...watch this. The trailer and premise are amazing...the show could not be worse. Submarine has a romulan cloaking device (they don't call it that) The satellite tracking station they are at in the one scene in the trailer can track submerged sub. The highest person in engineering is a senior chief (it should be a LtCDR/CDR. and a milllion more issues luckily it died fast.

My issue with Cora wasn't her constant talk about Asari commandos. it is that she is just boring specially for a female Ryder i imagine (i had a male Ryder). most characters in Andromeda (with the big exception being Jaal i guess) don't feel that connected to the main story so their only chance to show off is with their loyalty missions. they still could make it work like how Drack was handled, but they didn't.

Everything that doesn't speak to your concern troll ass is "poorly done" or executed, because given your people the choice, you would always go for complete invisibility of characters not in your tribe. What the hell would you know of originality and execution when all you can do is parrot "snowflake" and "triggered" like the next aggrieved "omg straight white genocide is upon us" youtube commenter trolling Bioware videos.
