I see this keeps popping up, and since I have a severe allergy to stupid I need to make this thread. ^My reaction to the whole ordeal with people thinking it's the Illusive Man. First off lets establish that it is highly, extremely, likely that the Benefactor travelled to Andromeda aboard the Nexus. The Benefactor is clearly running scared from the Reapers, and this fear is the core motivation for his or her funding of the Andromeda Iniatitve. Furthermore it would not make sense from a story telling point of view that they'd create all this mystery only to go "Oh, but that guy stayed put in the Milky Way". Bioware did a really good build up to a story, and it's safe to assume that we will be getting a DLC revolving around the Benefactor and most likely Ellen Ryder. Now a few basic facts: The Illusive man was in the Milky Way after the Arks left for Andromeda. The Illusive Man is strictly pro human. He would not sanction the construction of arks that would move the other species to a new galaxy. He would take aggressive steps to make sure they would either not reach their destination, or prevent their completion before the Reapers swooped in and obliterated everything. He has absolutely no reason to bother with killing Jien Garson while he remained in the Milky Way. The Illusive Man died at the end of the Reaper War. The Lazarus Project severly depleted Cerberus' economic capabilities around the ME2 time period, the same time period that the Arks were being constructed. All of this adds up to it simply being impossible that it is the Illusive Man. It's completely illogical, completely ridiculous from a story telling stand point. It makes no sense what so ever that it would be the Illusive Man. I really needed to get that out of my system.

TIM is not an "all eggs in one basket" kind of guy. It's totally in character for him to focus on the Reapers and still have some contingency survival plan for humanity in place.
