I have just replayed KotOR several times on iPad . (Twice as a male LS Jedi, and I'm halfway through a DS female playthrough.) It was great to finally revisit this game again. I was amused by how quickly the romance progressed. Yet, it really does make sense, in the context of SW and of their force bond. Between their force bond, the time they presumably share off-screen, and the storyline involving Bastila's patents, this romance has more substance than those in the SW films. Plus, I dig Hale's VA work as Bastila. I don't get nearly as deeply invested in the romance subplots of these games as many do, but they definitely add depth to the games. This one surely adds a lot. I prefer KotOR as the story of the prodigal Knight who saves the Republic, and Revan talking Bastila back from the dark side at the end is much better at the if they're emotionally involved. I'm definitely a fan of this love story.

Revan teases her all the time and she gets super embarrassed. Even though it's canon that they married after the Jedi Civil War, it's sad that after he left they never saw each other again.

I'm not a SWTOR player, so I just recently took the time to find out what ultimately happened with Revan. I can't say I love how things ended for all of my KotOR crew, but I guess that's art imitating life, to an extent.

I watched some footage but I don't really take what happens in that game seriously. I only know the basics of what happens in the book TOR: Revan by Drew Karpyshyn.

Next time I play KOTOR I should probably do it as male so I can romance Bastila. Playing as female Revan I hated her guts.

Yeah, I think there's often quite a difference when playing through with a companion that is romanced versus one that isn't. I'm not entirely sure but I suspect part of it may be because of extra character content/background that is shared in romances but not friendships? With a female Revan I did recall my impression of Bastila being that she was overly uppity and sanctimonious. I should probably try a proper male Revan playthrough sometime too. As far as SWTOR and the books though... I personally disregard those completely. They just utterly stomped all over any Kotor2 content with what they did with the Exile (and the appalling Kreia cameo!), and I plain can't stand how they handled their canon Revan either. I do actually like the SWTOR individual class stories, just not anything to do with Revan or the Exile

I think that femPC + Carth romance is deeper and more complex. Bastila's ark is way too cliche, like 'knight saves the damsel in distress'.
I also think that playing femPC adds more edges to the Malak's story. Not necessarily direct romance, no, but Revan being the strong female lead changes flavours, imo.

I'm not a big fan of the female Revan, though it not sure why. Maybe it's the Bastila romance that competes the game for me? The Exile always seemed best as a woman for me, conversely. This was the case long before I learned that these were the "canonized" genders for these characters.
I still like Carth, but replaying the game again a decade older, he seems a bit confused and "all over the place". He wants to talk, but he doesn't want to talk, etc... BioWare has definitely grown in their skill for writing deep characters.
KotOR2 was a strange mess. I enjoyed it, and would've enjoyed the completed version more, but the story was decidedly not a Star Wars story. They took way too many liberties with the nature of the Force for my liking. Some settings, or at least certain features of some settings, are not suitable for flexing your creative muscles. BioWare would've handled a sequel better. They stayed so very true to Star Wars with KotOR. Some people really get a setting, others less so.

Really liked all the teasing between Revan and Bastila ps: Element Zero the canon was male Revan and femele Jedi Exile. No idea how it is now that Disney destroyed the expanded universe.

Yeah, I'm aware. It's still the same, as far as I know. I believe the official story is that they married, before Revan set off into the unknown once more, intent on stopping the Sith Empire. ( Tuchanka Love mentioned this above.) Revan's and Bastila's story would've been best ended with KotOR, or shortly after. Using Revan to setup SWtOR pissed a lot of people off, since it abused a character to whom we'd understandably grown very attached. I didn't read the novel, nor have I played SWtOR, but I do have access to Wookieepedia.

I don't think it's cliche because it's not like they they fell in luv after he "rescued" her. She even argues with him that SHE was the one rescuing him while he continues to tease her and call her a damsel in distress, much to her annoyance. I get the feeling from the options available in dialogue that they quite disliked each other in the beginning. I personally think that the writers idea was that maleRevan is the canon (later on confirmed) with Bastila romance also canon. Because their whole relationship, from her being turned to the dark side and him getting her back to the light side revolves around their romance. First with her struggle regarding her feelings for Revan. Developing feelings for him while keeping his real identity a secret. Her struggle with both being a Jedi forbidden to love and him being a Sith Lord representing everything she hates. She actually says that she fell to the dark side because of the fear she had for loving him, and Malak used that against her, and says to Revan that her acceptance of her love for him and his for her redeemed her and brought her back to the light. Yeah, the canon story is that they married and he left to find the Sith Empire when she was pregnant.

KotOR2 would have been the far better game of the two, had it not been rushed as it was.
That said, I love both games and plan on replaying both soon. Maybe even finishing a mod or two.

You can romance Juhani as a female. The first ever non-straight character in Star Wars, I believe, although Bioware didn't really telegraph it very well to the player. I found it more than clear. The main problem with her romance was just that she didn't get a proper ending. Or, to say better, it wasn't ended at all. Pity because until that point I wasn't feeling that her romance was somehow "inferior" to the other ones.

I didn't romance her but the problem I had with Juhani was her personal quest was bugged or something and didn't trigger until I was almost done with the game. And that was with trying to get it to trigger. Plus, I may have been distracted by Carth.....

I disagree. Visas was the best romance for me, if we can count both games. Overall she was way, way more interesting as a character. Bastila is just a goody goody mum. God I hated Bastila. I guess this is the Bastila fan club thread tough. I'll show myself out.

I always liked flirting with Bastilla. Her reactions always made me smile, if not laugh out loud. The one that stuck with me, was me stating how her face got scrunched up, like a kinrath pup. I always wanted to go after Malik, after she sacrificed herself for you. I will say, it was such a pain in the ass to actually pass all the speech checks to romance her. I had a character that actually has something like 18 or 20 charisma, and a 40 in persuasion. And I had to reload a save right before that conversation 3 times to convince her to let those feelings out.

I only did female playthroughs, so it was Carth and Atton for me, but I can imagine the Bastila romance would have been really fun to play through with how important she is to the story and the connection between the two characters. I really enjoyed the Carth romance to begin with, but as I've grown older I've found myself wishing Canderous had been an option too! I still love the Atton romance from KOTOR 2 even if it's a bit sparse at points. (No, I don't want to play pazaak!) The TSL Restoration project really improves things too, I think.

Revan's snarky lines and flirting with Bastila by teasing her mercilessly is even more hilarious in retrospect, because this behaviour matches the personality he had even before the Jedi wiped his memory and implanted a new identity in his head. The game tells us that Darth Revan had a wicked sense of humour, such when HK once referred to Malak as a "meatbag" and Revan found it so funny, he specifically reprogrammed the droid to use that term for all organics, knowing it would get under his friend's skin. Whether he's good or bad, Revan seems to have a tendency to be a bit of a troll.
