This was my very first thread on the BSN in Jan of 2014. It's a pretty good resource and I made sure to copy it before the shutdown. Last I checked, all the links are still good. Please feel free to post other bug fixes for DA:O and DA:A here.
Good evening! This thread is for both new and existing players of Awakening, with some tips for mods that I consider needed for Awakening. It's a great game but it has some....issues. This list will contain some minor spoilers, but I'll try not to spoil anything major. None of these mods were created by me, this is just what I use.
Anyhow, let's get started.
Now, I can promise that you're going to need bug fixes. While a highly enjoyable expansion, some of the quests are broken. Here's a list of what you'll need to make sure your game works.
Awakening Bugfixes
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1508/?
This mod will repair the following quests:
Siding with the Baroness--this will give the proper quest reward.
Sigrun's Personal Quest--If you install this before doing "Law and Order," it will have the quest work as intended. If you install it afterward, then follow the console directions to start the quest.
What is Built Endures--Players can now turn in the granite and finish the quest.
Awakening Cutscene Fix
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/3009/?
This will prevent the endless looping during the epilogue.
Joining Ritual Fix
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/2997/?
This will make sure your final recruit (Velanna or Sigrun) can still do the Joining.
Silverite Mines Bugfix
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1762/?
This one will prevent the bug that makes the Warden's gear not appear on the experiment. Note: You know you have the bug if you still have any items or gear left; the Warden will also be lacking the clothing she is given.
Black Blood Gear Fix
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/3269/?
This workaround will make sure all the set drops in Blackmarsh. Note: You can use the console to give yourself the gear should you so desire. However, if used in Origins, only the helm will be visible.
Tips for brand new players:
Make sure you have two mage sets, two rogue sets (one set up for dual wield, the other for archery) and two warrior sets.
Strip Oghren of his gear if he isn't joining the party for the Battle of Denerium or defending the gate before the end of the Origins. It makes life easier.
If you saved the physical tomes for Oghren's benefit in Orgins (since he's usually the final member to be recruited), save them for Awakening. All of his talents will be pre-set.
On that note, Oghren's affection will be reset. You'll be a stranger to him even with a Hero import.
You'll need one set of warrior tank gear and one set of dual wield rogue gear if you play Golems.
You'll need one set of warrior gear (dual wield, I believe) and one set of mage gear if you play Witch Hunt.
Having trouble getting along with Justice? Look for the Lyrium ring in the Deep Roads.
Make sure you kill all of the sylvans in the forest and leave no stone unturned. There is a lot of quests to be had out there.
Mash that Tab key! It'll be the only way to get all the metals for your Keep's upgrades. I'm not sure if there is an Auto-Highlight mod for Awakening. There is one for Origins
If you use the No-Helmet Hack, disable it before you engage the Mother. If you leave it on, and go into the last DLCs (Golems and Witch Hunt,) it will vanish. If you mouse over it, you'll see the stats but no helm. It will also make you lose the set bonus, such as with the Sentinel and the Black Blade gear. Either turn on your helm or remove it before you disable the mod. Otherwise, your helm will not appear in your inventory.
Max Level is level 35 total for the rest of the game's content, including the DLC.
You cannot carry over some of the DLC items into Awakening. Particularly the Feastday items, so no easy gifts for the Warden-Commander!
Look for the Manuals of Focus from Wade. That will allow you to reset your talents/skill points. You can give it to your companions as well.
Here is some misc gift mods I used.
Awakening Gift Guide
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/882/?
The gift receiver's name is in purple on the tool tip. There is one for Origins as well.
Bag of Kittens for Awakening
www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/910/?
This is a goofy little mod that gives you a bag of kitten to click on. You can click it on it every 5 seconds and it will produce a kitten. It's a gift that has diminishing returns, but it's a +1 no matter what. There is one for Origins.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Veteran players, what would you add to this list?
Happy hunting everyone!
