ME3's system worked perfectly fine, no need to start tinkering with it. It is a gun focused game and should stay that way, please don't go into the Star Wars space fantasy territory.

What about this sort of melee? How could someone not like that? That was hilarious. BioWare should add more of that, too.

I'd love more stealth kills in Mass Effect. And give us our Drell Neck Snap dammit! Thane needs a mo tribute >_>

Sure go with your fists or an iron bar against heavily armed opponents..let me know how it went.
I'm using a shotgun if you don't mind.

I'm OK with the biotically enhanced melee attacks/modified omni-tools from ME3, and I hope they bring back the bayonets - they're still used by many armed forces today - but anything else feels somewhat out of place in a gun centric setting like ME. Carrying a dedicated melee weapon is just nonsensical.

After they're down with their thang, they leap back for cover until they can use their special assault again. It's really no different than in DA, except everyone has access to long-range weapons.

I think we'll see a very expanded melee combat in ME:A. They fleshed out melee a lot in ME3MP from release to final DLC. I don't think they're going to start backtracking now.

Ah but the question is, where will this be seen? MP only or integrated into SP as well? Considering most of my ME playthroughs have been with Vanguards, i wouldn't mind some kind of combo system for sheer kicks but nothing crazy, because nothing's like showing some shotgun love.

I don't think they're going to start backtracking now. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Backtracking? perhaps not. However, I bet Bio has tweaked, added and subtracted the combat mechanics. Certainly the jump jet adds a new combat mechanic which is clearly seen in teaser video.. Maybe the added a jump Nova Power for the soldier class. Which reminds me. The Bio studio must do a better job in clearly defining the differences between a biotic power, a tech power, and a weapon power and any other powers I missed. Also, make sure that when choosing a level IV power consumable that we clearly know which "power" it touches..... 'cause I still get confused if a weapon power mod effect biotics or tech or both or none. Oh yeah, and then shields and barriers. So a Drell has health and barrier but I add shields 'cause there is no barrier consumable.... Ugggh!!

Hah yeah some of that gets weird. I really do hope that whole 'jetpack jump into biotic ground pound' we keep seeing is actually just a melee attack from jetpack and not just some skill. Like if that's just one evolution added to the melee I'd be pretty happy with it. We got the basic 3 hit combo (if you connect a hit to an enemy), heavy attack, cover takedowns and then maaaybe jetpack ground pounds? Hell yeah. ....Krogans better be able to jetpack. I wanna Krogan jump into the air and come crashing down chuckling maniacally all the way. They've shown some more CGI-looking variant with an Omniblade. Sooo, either it's an AoE for everyone (Concussive for soldier, fire AoE for engineer, nova sploosh for biotics). Or, Oh what if it was another insta-take down but required you land on something with your melee from jetpacking? That'd be pretty damn badass. You land on em and stab, or Krogan headbutt from orbit....

I'd like to see more player-executed sync kills too. Not as gung-ho as Doom took it, but something more than just grab kills.

Yeah, I like it when theres conditions around it. The grab takedown was a real fun addition. DOOM would definietly be way overboard (though I loved that). They tied the games ammo and health system entirely into those glorykills so makes sense there. The 2 I'd like to see would be using Jetpack to come down on enemies with a takedown if you land on em (which would be pretty difficult I imagine). And maybe a takedown from behind enemies. Either via them being unaware of you run up on an enemy currently paying attention to other squad members. Anything from the side/front I think should be a no-go though. You know, stuff that adds a risk/reward and has more tactical consideration then just the 'get em low and hit a button' from DOOM, or other older games that did the exact same thing.

Not a huge fan of melee being in Mass Effect, largely because the way it was handled in Mas Effect 3 convinced me it wouldn't work out.

I don't see the problem with adding more melee moves. They added the different punches and you can sneak up, grab, and kill someone in the last game. Perhaps adding something else to that could be doable.
If they tried to do an actual melee class though... I could see that getting tricky because ME is a shooter. I don't think it couldn't be done, but there would definitely have to be a lot of thought going into it so that it would be balanced with the other classes. Oftentimes opponents are not within range, so a strictly melee class would be at a serious disadvantage. I think it would be interesting to see what they would come up with.

Course you still used guns but having skills oriented around having a sword and all that definitely let you orient your character more towards melee. Definitely don't think they should ever get rid of the guns being primary source of output. Though I'd definitely love some beefy melee buffs for my Vanguard.

I would just like more customisation for melee abilities (well more customisation in general for everything compared to all the previous games).
For example a dedicated melee ability tree with several branching choices at each level, and the option to choose which type of melee we can use either on Ryder or multiplayer characters.

Melee weapons generally make sense in a modern or Sci-fi setting only in very specific circumstances. And I'd rather they be more restrained with the application of rule-of-cool in general. And as much as this may sounds like anti-fun, it shouldn't, awesome does not necessarily equal stupid comic book / anime logic. There's just something very satisfying in the relative minimalism of design and lore that are based on "form follows function" - things that make sense on an intuitive level, rather than bombastic and over-the-top for its own sake. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> That very specific circumstance may come in the way of a specific mission or two. If so, It better be simplified. Melee combat is difficult to represent in a video game, whether it's sword fighting or hand-to-hand, street brawling or expert martial arts. TW3 melee combat is either easy, difficult or clumsy, depending on whom you ask. I have Tw3 and melee combat is challenging for me. On the other hand, DA2 melee combat was a joy with its auto-attack. If power's on your shopping list Then use the elbow and the fist, Pummel 'em until they get the gist Just make an example of Representative sample of And most of them will not be missed! (c)

I don't know how well a melee combat system could work in the game. Maybe they could add player-initiated kill animations, basically a more intricate version of the heavy melee. I'm thinking something like this:
