Not finished with the game quite yet, so I may amend this later but:
Least favorite so far is Peebee. Her emotional responses and reaction don't seem to track for someone who is over 100.
Cora is a bit bland so far, hoping she develops some from her loyality mission.
Drack is a bit of a cardboard Krogan. "hehe smash and blow up stuff" but his VO really nailed it so I still find it funny. Some potential to grow with this whole Krogan colony business.
Vetra: Eh? I didn't get emotionally attached so I don't really care about her issues. Too much reverb or something in her voice that bothers me a bit.
Jaal is different. Useless in combat imo, but has some really good emotional moments. Not sure he has the impact that previous characters did as a new race introduction character. His answers about his people seem rather vague. I have a hard time seeing him potentially growing into a Garus, Tali, Wrex, or Liara.
Liam: He bounces back and forth a bit emotionally, but overall he's the first human male of the series I can stand. Kaiden always dies on Virmire (usually with much rejoicing) and Jacob was meh+daddy issues.
Latino dude: I forget his name, but really don't care for him. In particular I didn't like how even nonflirt dialogue seemed rather flirty.
Liam and Peebee both seem to be a bit bipolar to me. Very strong emotions most of the time, but sometimes the emotions aren't consistent with what I would expect given the situation.
PS. Is it just me, or is having daddy issues a requirement to be on the Bioware writing staff?

After we get to the Nexus I wished I could leave him there and never see him again. Or better yet accidentally shove him out an airlock now that is a DLC I want.

Vetra. Totally overrated. Like most of the Turians. If Vetra was written exactly the same but was human, would she have a lot of fans? I'm guessing people would be complaining about how boring she was. I like Vetra, but agree that she's a bit overrated just because she's Turian. I feel sorry for the writers who end up assigned the human squadmates The best you can hope for is creating a polarizing character that people either love or hate, because they're not one of the aliens. The absolute fan favorites are always aliens just because coming from a weird sci Fi race generates interest before the player even sees much of the character's content. My guess is probably they would say she is boring. But with this crew that still might put her miles above cora, pb and liam. The writers really didn't do jack to help the human squaddies. I mean they could have made Cora so much more interesting if her attitude was, "Yeah, I was a biotic. Tough cookies for people who didn't like it. I can warp metal. That's awesome. I trained with huntresses because it gave me a huge opportunity to hone my biotics more, to learn about the asari, and to go somewhere where biotics aren't disparaged.' Then drop the looking for someone to mentor her shtick. Make her really a badass who owns her power rather than feels like an outcast for it. But nope. She was boring, whiny, looking up to everyone else to save her and feeling rejected when or upset when they didn't. Such a victim. But at least she can be sweet. BW needs to stop writing these types of characters. They offer no help to those who identify with them. I don't think it's so much that they are weird sci fi alien races that they are favorites but because they always try way too hard to make the humans understandable with some tired ideas. Kaidan and Cora are kind of the same at their core. Same issues. Same whining. Only difference is Kaidan didn't need or want to be a pathfinder/leader. But Shepard was his mentor. He was rejected by a chick and cora felt rejected by others as well. Copy paste mostly. Nothing new to see here. With Liam, he seems a lot like Jacob with his kind of attitude. That whole 'we got this' feel. But Jacob was actually less annoying. He was pretty solid it seemed. Liam tries to seem like he has his shit together but he really comes off like he's struggling to hold onto being an idealist and make everything work how he things it should or fix stuff. By comparison I think Vetra is a huge relief so that just makes her so much better. Boring is better than annoying or tedious. Plus she has a kind of cool quality so when compared to our human companions that makes her seem even better. I think you are right about part of it being that she is not human, but that is because I think they need to get away from writing humans all the same as they have before - especially when how they were before wasn't really that great to begin with. Only certain groups loved them as they were. (Kaidan mainly for the romance IIRC)

Honestly, expected to not care about Peebee and Liam, now they're amongst my favorites. Liam really turned around for me on his loyalty quest (and for the fact that his obnoxiousness is actually a character trait of his, not just bad writing) and Peebee just became BBF cuz she's just plain fun and a great outlook to "normal" asaris (Liara and Samara were anything but)
Cora kind of disappeared during the game, and never got the mentor role i thought she was meant to get, but i really liked her loyalty mission
Can't not like Drack because i recently watched "Logan"
Vetra is awesome (and i love the animation detail of her mandibles opening up when she "smiles")
I guess Jaal is my least favorite. His bromance with Liam threatens my Ryder's bromance with Liam anyway

Liam isn't bad. He just says so many stupid thing that i can't stand it. The best one is Vetra (the best facial animations in the game probably) and Drack on the second place.

The reason PeeBee is kinda pretty is... They sorta have the same thing going on. A little tomboyish but kinda pretty. Despite looks PeeBee is just great. Peebee is definitely no Ellen Page. If she were actually based off of her likeness, she would have called BioWare out on it like she did when Naughty Dog stole her likeness for The Last of Us with Ellie. That entire character from TLOU was based off of Ellen Page, even going as far as being a lesbian.

What is essentially a talking big bird from Sesame Street has the "best facial animations in the game probably"? Right. I like turians, but they are probably the easiest alien for BioWare to animate because their faces barely move.

I would have to say Jaal, just not interested in his character but Cora is a close second, to be honest.
Cora might of been a better character if she was a Asari...at least all the talk about Huntresses wouldn't of been as annoying.

Wow, this thread... ha, Liam is one of my favorites. Bringing him and Jaal in the Nomad is always fun, love their friendship. To me, Peebee is much more boring and one dimensional when you get past the show she puts on. I don't really hate her but she's so.... extra, all the time. A dialed-down version of DAI's Sera, which is still too much. And Cora, blergh... I'm still waiting for her to give me something, anything. She's the Kaiden level of interesting. So yeah, not bringing these two anywhere. Luckily the other 4 are GREAT.

I voted "Liam" with much enthusiasm.
I like Liam; but he's an idiot who should probably be far from sensitive data and situations. He has the emotionally maturity and decision-making ability of a child. Despite his combat talent, everyone would be better off if he switched careers (again!) and focused on humanitarian work.

Yep, seems to be a complete repeat of the MET....most of the guy players hate the human male, what a shock! As a straight female, Kaidan was my favorite character and favorite romance from the trilogy. I don't like Liam quite as much, but he's still a lovely companion (especially if you take Liam and Jaal everywhere together) and he also has a sweet romance. Peebee is easily the character I enjoy least. A perky Asari? To quote Kallo: "Kill. Me. Now." She just sits on the ship. Also, I find it delicious that those that hate Liam can't kill him off like they could with Kaidan. Suck it up, boys! Feel my Liara pain!

Banter wise? Cora. She's my favourite romance interest but too boring in terms of party banter.
Combat wise? Peebee. Love her banter and interactions, but I just don't find her useful in combat at all.

He lives in 100% of my playthroughs. (It used to be about 80%, but then ME3 Ash happened.) My problem isn't that Liam is human, male or boring. He's actually funny, and reminds me of my nephew. My issue is that he's an idiot who endangers the entire Initiative with his antics. Dr. Lexi assured me, after the final mission, that Liam finally understood why his past actions were foolish. I would be happy to have a wiser Liam back aboard Tempest. Foolish Liam, though, is likely to be in a cell on the Nexus, at his present pace of bad decision-making.

I don't hate any of them, really. I was going to romance Liam my first playthrough initially, I liked his character design and the accent is cute. However, he did some things that made him Ser Friendzone. I know he means well, but still. I did enjoy his loyalty mission, though and he had some good moments. I also like his interactions with Jaal.

I also like his interactions with Jaal. That's a great way of describing "the Liam Experience", for me. I figured, "If I do a romance arc for Sara, he'll probably be the one." (Nice-looking human guy. Can't miss, right?) He just didn't work, though. He insisted on being oddly formal in calling her "Pathfinder" at all times. That felt like a small barrier. More importantly, I just couldn't take him seriously with his unrealistic view of the world and dangerous impulsivity. Liam is the kind of friend you want, very loving and loyal; but he doesn't seem to be finished growing up, yet.

Liam is only the second character in the series that I felt like I should be able to leave dockside. Jack was the first, but that was for another reason -- her insanity.
With Liam it's his staggering incompetence. I really don't get it -- devs go out of their way to portray Liam as someone who does really poorly under pressure, but I have to keep bringing him along, why?

He's reckless and idealistic but I don't think he could be actually dangerous. - Then again, when I think about it, I like Jacob and Kaidan too. I respect Jacob's morals and Kaiden is heaven over Ashley in ME3. I adore Vetra, but I agree that she wouldn't be interesting to so many people if she was human. But the question is, would anyone? Would we like Drack or Jaal if they were human? Not all aliens have to be so in your face Peebee to be interesting.
