I hadn't seen this posted here, but it's the best explanation I've seen for what went wrong with the animations, and it appears to not actually be the animators fault. www.animstate.com/round-table-mass-effect-andromeda/The TL;DR being that they use a 3rd party program like FaceFX to animate the faces for "lip reading" , and it's usually done by interns, and then after that's done the "artists" will go back over key/important scenes and polish them up.

Make sense. I have very little quarrels with the looks in-game. Yeah sometimes my eyes are closed all the time, or I look stoned/extremely tired for some reason. The "lip reading" is well done, and I've stated before - Some of the expressions you get, and how they are done, with the timing and effect, really makes the bad kind of moot. This game is full of gut-wrenching moments and tear-jerking reactions. I love it. Yeah so what it looks like I got swollen lips now and then... it's entertainment
