It broke the dialogue system. Plain and simple, they didnt remove just the meter which was all that needed to go, they removed the ability for the path finder to say anything interesting at all.
Neutral freaking everything, that way nobody has to look at the option they don't like and never pick anyway.
If what you wanted was to play a goody two shoes with abandonment issues it works great.
The problem comes in when you try and step outside that box and be anything other than a bland unbelievably naive and outright dumb protagonist.
The dialogue has not improved, its worse. Where we wanted more neutral options to add to to thr existing style, we got neutral and nothing else.
The meter sucked but P/R felt a lot better than wandering around Andromeda begging for sympathy.

I prefer ME:A's system to the trilogy, without a doubt. It moves the story along more consistently. I also like that "renegade/paragon" interrupts are provided at some decision points.
