Thought this was an interesting video. It sheds a lot of light on the production issues. Since the Bioware animators took all the heat and harassment from the emotionally unhinged maybe this might give them a right of reply. BTW don't have a knee jerk response to the start of this video. This is a serious video, it is not a critique hatchet job personality video. It references Bioware sources, employees involved with the games production (stick with it). It seems management denied the animators request to tweak and polish the animations before release. The real detail starts at 1:12.
What do you think, have the animators been unfairly treated?

This is a great video. My gut feeling was that it was never the developers. My anger is the completely horrible leadership and lack of HR support. You can't pass on the vision of the original work if your leads keep changing.

I've moved on from ME:A and am now playing other games. Truth be told, I probably won't touch ME:A again, unless some really interesting DLC comes out. But that said I played at least 60 hours worth, and two full playthroughs, because I wanted to experience as much as I could to get a full grasp on the game. My feeling is this...
I think EA forced Bioware to make this game. I think Bioware were serious during ME3's release when they said they had no further plans for the series. I think ME:A was made strictly for money reasons, and it was dropped on a smaller studio who had no experience making a full game. Their first full game being an Open World RPG, one of the more difficult types of games to make. I don't think Bioware Montreal had a chance. That's not to say they're not at fault for a lot of the game's shortcomings, especially the writing. But this is absolutely a symptom of EA.
Andromeda feels very design by committee. They designed this game by bulletpointing what people loved about the previous games, without actually understanding WHY they like it. They didn't look at the care that went into the things people loved about ME1-3. Mass Effect 1 came from a creative spark, and team of developers that had a story they WANTED to tell. ME:A came from EA saying "make another one".

Yup, saw this 2 days after relese on twitter, Yeah, I know. If only it had been out before the neanderthals got their pitchforks out scapegoating people who had nothing to do with management decisions. The buck stops with the bosses not the employees.

I just reached Kadara with 45 hours on first playthrough.. I enjoy the game a lot and tried to make peace with the facial expression + animations. and about the animation.. do they really need to blame others?

Personally, like most reasonable people I believe in fairness so credit were credit is due and fair criticism were that is due. In this case I think it's important to highlight who actually is responsible for the flaws as the animators are being hung out to dry. This is just plain old fairness, these guys are Andromeda's patsy and have been taking the heat for stuff they are not responsible for, in fact flaws which they highlighted and offered to remedy but were not allowed to fix. If that's not the defintion of unfair then I don't know what is, after all this is their chosen career and to be associated with these animation issues is damaging to their reputation in the industry. However, It's good that you can still find something to enjoy in the game.

No such thing as "such and such was responsible". A team is a team is a team ... period. Every last employee involved with the game is responsible for all positive and negative aspects of the game ... period.
That said, despite the fact that the facial animations bugged the hell out of me, I enjoy this game and will continue to enjoy it as I live stream. Are the facial animations silly? Yeah, but they are not game breaking. My game doesn't crash. I can play for hours at a time ... I got what I paid for and consider myself happy.

Maybe in a classroom, or what you as a customer are told externally, but that's not how things actually work inside a company. When your "team" fails, heads roll. And it's usually not upper management. They do a post-mortem, and people get fired who failed or under performed. That's the nature of business. At the end of the video he talks about Bioware not wanting to alter the female characters to be more pretty because of a PC culture inside the company. I'm curious where they got their cyberscan models for females from. Because almost without exception, all the female models in Andromeda have stronger chins than the male characters. Or it's so close you could call it a tie. That's simply not normal.
