So I play clerics in D&D. And so I eagerly began reading Bob Salvatore's Cleric Quintet series many years ago.
However, about 550 pages into it, (about the time when the level 2 main characters kill a dragon) I threw it across the room and never picked it up again except to throw it away. In addition to being a Marty Stu and a one-dimensional bore of Colin Farrellesque proportions, Cadderly was the absolute worst representation of a cleric I have ever farking seen.
Some years hence, I played Baldur's Gate. Cadderly showed up.
I put him on ice straightaway. The reputation hit was worth it.
He didn't even have any good stuff.
Update: Previously I said "Get lost, Salvatore you hack." I stand by this regarding the Cleric Quintet, although I enjoyed most (most) of his Drizzt books despite the main characters being unkillable demipowers.

I think I liked Salvatore precisely because it was so fantasy hum drum perfect.
Nothing really wrong in admitting what you are, on some level.

I eventually finished the Quintet but yes, it was a struggle right around where you said. It gets slightly better towards the end.
Salvatore is not GRRM, not Erikson, not Amercrombie, not even Marcus Heitz. But overall, he's not too bad, just silly. Even more silly than Terry Goodkind. His books should be marketed for young adult reading with some little editing out of most ridiculous parts which he cannot write well anyhow.

Confessiontime eh?
I used to kill Dynaheir myself so I could remove her from my party without losing Minsc. Today I couldn't do that because of RP reasons.
