While finishing up the game as Scott, I wondered how things might have played out if instead sarcastic Ryder was Shepard's soldier squadmate in ME3 and Vega was the male version of the protagonist in ME:A. The way both characters were written and acted might have made them fun in either role, not that I'm complaining about how it did turn out.
Did anyone else have that impression?
I also think that sarcastic Hawke from DA2 and Ryder being swapped out might be fun as well, though with the accent change I suppose you'd have to change Ryder-in-DA2 to an elf or dwarf.
Are there other characters in the series, or from other Bioware games, that you think might have been interesting if their roles were swapped?

Sarcastic Hawke made me want to slap him! Keep him away!! Tho I would have no problem playing as Vega cause I thought he was great. Seriously tho, I would like to see some of the darker characters on the Tempest. Take-no-shit Jack for hero-worshippin Cora? Or better yet, just have them both on the ship and sharing a room. They could teach each other alot... once the ensuing biotic battle was over! Could you imagine if Renegade Shep was in the place of Liam? Ie, as crew member? Instead of juvenile overconfidence and idealism almost causing diplomatic incidents, it would be Shep throwing people from windows and the like. That would have made for a super fun loyalty mission!!

My brain could not handle that. Cora's voice actress sounds so much like Courtney Taylor to me that there's no way I would be able to distinguish who was talking to who unless it was in a cutscene.

How about erasing Vega from ME3 all together and give us one of the ME2 squadmates instead. The trilogy is fine as individual games for the most part but the entire trilogy is a mess when taken as a whole. A very fun mess though.

How about we pull a space time maneuver, and we RIP Mordin out before the tower explodes. They never did show him actually dying. Just the explosion, and as the rule goes for TV shows and movies, if you don't see the body. They are not truly dead.

Fine by me.
Vega was an excellent character.
By far the most normal person in the entire Mass Effect galaxy.
He's the type of guy you'd be friends with in real life.

Vega and Shepard [possibly] had an edge to them that the Ryders won't ever have. The former pair were from de streetz
Ryder twins were raised in a always do the right thing environment
Lame for a video game

I disliked Jack. She was the typical Jessica Jones atrocity of "people were mean and hurt me, so I'm just a bitter cunt to everybody now". I was hoping Miranda would smear her guts across the walls instead. I'll take Cora over Jack any day. Don't need my company of settlers being made up of psychotics. I like well adjusted people, just as I'm sure you do in real life. I don't get this obsession with antiheroes nowadays. In real life you'd call those people insufferable assholes you have to put up with.

I like well adjusted people, just as I'm sure you do in real life. I don't get this obsession with antiheroes nowadays. In real life you'd call those people insufferable assholes you have to put up with. Most of the people I know in real-life all not at all well-adjusted. They are balls-to-the-wall, devil-may-care, raging wackos. Some of them are even "insufferable assholes". And I love all of them. In real life, not everyone has the privileges that promote what you call "well-adjusted"...but they are doing just fine (and they give the drab world a little color, imo). But regardless of the types of interesting, complex people that I prefer in real life (and the extreme ups and downs that go with that), those types o'people make video games waaaaaaaay more fun. So some folks dig em. I dig em. Doesn't have to mean any more than that. Jack's story was written with at least some attempt at depth (this is Bioware, so I am not pretending it was Salinger, or anything). She had a screwed up childhood, and was lashing out. She becomes a teacher later in the trilogy, a protector of young, bright people. Did you ever stop to think there may be folks out there who identify with Jack (ahem, nipple clamps excluded...although I guess they exist as well)? Just like some folks identify with Cora (ie, folks in the military commented on a previous thread, and had some cool insights into this). And Renegade Shep was just plain fun. The enjoyment of playing as renegade is precisely BECAUSE it is stuff you wouldn't do in real life. If I wanted a real life simulator, I guess I would play the Sims (and make sure my avatar pees regularly).

There's no privilege that magically grants you being a decent human being that understands basic decorum. It's just an active effort decent people make to not be selfish assholes.
Not being rude is not some upper middle class white value. Everybody has the capacity for it. It's someone's choice to be abrasive and create drama everywhere they go. It's someone's choice to believe that because they underwent hardship, then everybody else should as well.
Jack evolved into a much more bearable being in ME3, but I don't know how much of that was because of the vastly reduced exposure we had to our ME2 squadmates (I still resenht that, loved my Kasumi and Samara only to get small cameos with them).

Maybe if the game released with Vega, maybe him as the lead would be interesting.
But Vega was a pretty fleshed out character in 3, whereas Ryder is for the most part, a blank slate that you can fill up.
Now that I've played as default Scott Ryder though?
I love him, and he's easily my favorite part of this game. He's quirky, sarcastic, witty, fun, and someone who you can have a lot more organic fun with than Shepard, who often felt like a square peg

I'd rather play as Alec Ryder. A former elite operative who gets shit done while taking care of his autistic children.
And give us a more fleshed-out Zaeed Massani as squadmate. He'll tell us war stories, show us how to de-plate a krogan and his loyalty mission would be dropping a nuke on a kett base or something like that.
Wide-eyed idealists are boring. Edgy victims like Jack are shit as well.

It's ironic that the developers and some of the fans voiced their opinions about not wanting a Shepard 2.0 in Andromeda. And yet here we are asking for it. I think it would of been better had they stepped up the tone of Ryder's response where anger, disgust and seriousness of the scene Warranted it.. The character did grow over the course of the game, but apparently not enough.

I love Scott, largely because I always play these games as the quintessential good guy, with a slant towards sarcasm & quirkiness. So he fit my niche perfectly. With that being said, there were a handful of moments where I wanted to be angry / pissed off / furious at someone, and the game wouldn't really let me be that asshole / rude / arrogant guy.

I also think that sarcastic Hawke from DA2 and Ryder being swapped out might be fun as well When DA2 first came out I thought sarcastic Hawke was like the best thing. Thought they were hilarious and just very much playing the part of a puckish rogue. I guess my sense of humor changed because now they just seem like a sociopath who is kind of a dick. Though it's still funny...just more in an "It's Always Sunny" kind of way.
