I enjoy it for it's combat.
I mean having 4 different builds that I can switch at any time and not be limited to class exclusive powers in the earlier ME games, is what I love the most about ME:A.
Also I love making my own unique builds.

Think about it though how many of your decisions in ME1 mattered by the end of ME1. Feros maybe cos the colonists survived if you didn't shoot them? Arguably the Council decision maybe cos there were difference NPCs at the end of the game if they died and killing Wrex & sacrificing Kadian/Ashly on Virmire only reduced your squadmate count for ME1. The big impacts of your decisions in Mass Effect were only seen in the next two games, kill Wrex in ME1? not a huge deal in ME1 but that meant in ME2 & 3 you had Wreav, which was a big difference. ME:A at least had some decisions that impacted it's own game & has set up plenty of decisions that could impact the next one. I've only completed one playthrough so far but I've included a couple of decisions that came up that would've changed my playthrough if I had made them in the spoiler tags. Not giving the Korgan the remnant core means you will end up with one less outpost and one less architect to fight. And they don't come to help you at the end of the game. Not convincing Avitus Rix to become a Pathfinder leads to him becoming a drunk & to the death of Captain Dunn. Trusting Jaal during his loyalty mission leads to the destruction of the roekar and their absence from Havarl. Your decisions on Kadra means one faction will now not automatically attack you as you travel around the planet. Based on your choices the Salarian and Asari Pathfinder could be different. Other decisions change who turns up during end game to help. This. I always felt that any decision i made in the past ME games just had the illusion of choice and being important, only a hand full actually had any actual impact. But those games where all about being Jack Bauer in space and making the big, controversial decisions, a power fantasy to the point where it could just be silly. I mean, does anyone else remember how in ME1 two complete strangers ask you to make a possible life altering decision for an unborn child for them? I mean what the hell, that was just wierd...
Interesting perspectives on that. For me, its the other way around. I felt the decisions and choices n the previous game had far more weight and impact to them than in this one. In MEA it really feels like just different colored choices that get you to the same point anyway. Aside from the ending of ME3, the feel of the games felt very different based on my choices. I dont have the same feeling here.
I dunno. i mean, again dont get me arong MEA is a good game, above average, overall. With a few really shining spots...but more than a few 'meh' spots. *shrugs* Guess Im old and jaded maybe?

One thing to keep in mind is: everyone's opinion varies.
Personally, I am loving the game. The new running, shooting, jogging and even the cover and omni tool interaction animations are pretty amazing. That said, there are bugs, facial animations are lacking at times. And the lack of a storage system can be off putting.
But I still love it. It made me laugh at times. It made me sad or worried- heck even a little anxious/excited at other times. It was a nice ride, but doesn't have a big ending to it. But rather a "watch, what's to come" feel to the ending. Which I actually liked.
Our adventures in Andromeda seem to have only just begun.

The dialogue is dreadful, the humour is cringy, plot is boring and most of the characters are shite, yet I'm still enjoying it. It's alri, I'm having a lot more fun now that I'm playing as an Infiltrator.

That feeling comes from the fact that you saw how your choices resolved themselves in the next game. A dead or alive Council didn't change much about ME1 but it did change a lot about ME2. Giving the Krogan the remnant core or not affects the number of settlements you can have, the number of planets you can get to 100% viability, the people who show up to help at the end. This one decision makes a much bigger difference to MEA than all of the decisions in ME1 affected ME1.

I'm a bit mixed on MEA. I play for the story and so far I'm bored. I hate having to drive around in the Mako and look for quests that are underground when they are signalled to be at the top of an impassable mountain and I've given up on a couple of worlds as a result. I feel there is a disconnect between the main quest and the sheer abundance of side stuff which I never got in MET. It's not tied in well enough. And I loved DAI and the Hinterlands type stuff so it's not open world which is the problem, just the execution.
The characters are so bland and boring in the main. I've got zero attachment to my squad, they are all forgettable. Too much attention is given to certain romances and not others which I find frustrating. They should all matter to the overall story not just a chosen few.
Above are major issues for me. I play on PS4 and haven't had any glitches yet and the animations etc don't bother me. I am surprised though that with DAI released in 2014 the characters look way better than they do in MEA. But it's not a deal breaker so far.
I'm enthusiastic about the overarching story, I think it's cool. Sis Ryder's va is awesome and there are one or two wonderful NPCs outside of the squad who have saved the game for me.
Going to wait for the patches before I draw a definite conclusion. But I think overall it's worth getting and exploring for yourself.

Plot played out exactly the same anyway the only things that changed was you had Coucilor Airquotes going: "ah yes, "Reapers"... We have dismissed that claim because i play the role of the stereotypical-condecending-republican in a disaster movie" instead of the human council screwing you over. Also some mentions from NPC's like shopkeepers and Punchingbag Journalist but besides the game sort of aknowledging your choice, it didn't affect diddly squat.

A lot of things just don't connect or gel well together with the overall design of the mission structures. The characters are all pretty meh. Just feels like its lacking a certain level of magic, or connectivity, or something. It's just hard to really care about any of these people, and in a game like this thats what really drives you. Plus, not even an opportunity to be an absolute ass to those you really dislike. I so want to shoot Addison. And sloane. And Liam. Maybe the pilot too...I dont even remember his name hes that forgettable.

It's because they did a better job putting up their smoke and mirrors, but besides a few things like what you did with the Genophage most of your "major" choices never actually had any affect on the plot. Playing through the game your first time i thought it mattered but come ME2 it was clear that they didn't. Haven't completed this game yet so can say much about it other than it just sounds like more of the same but with worse writers.

Yeah, I suppose a lot is stretching things a bit. Ultimately it didn't matter too much. I suppose I was exaggerating a bit to make the point that all the "important" decisions people made in the trilogy really didn't resolve until ME 2 or ME3. Whereas MEA has decisions that resolve in game and have an impact on the gameplay, dialogue and ending.

The glitches aside, I'm really enjoying it.
I wasn't convinced about the combat at first, but now I'm sold. It's even tempted me to look beyond my near-exclusive use of adept/sniper rifle setup. Tech and shotguns are getting much more of a look in than they ever did in the trilogy!
The main negative for me is the open world nature of planet exploration. It's a bit false, it's a bit repetitive and ultimately it slows down the main story considerably if you let it. Personally, for the next game, I'd rather that they just went with a number of hubs instead.

I absolutely love it. Yup, I'm a sheep. The game has flaws but the gamer community in general has ridiculously high standards too imo. Glitches are just another thing to laugh at. I got attached to everyone on the Tempest even quicker than in TOT. TOT had some flaws that wouldn't let me be a 100% immersed. To me, it's the biggest ME game in every way. It's breaking some barriers, but I was surprised by how Mass Effect-ish it feels. Some things obviously need to be fixed like the conversation interrupts, the lighting/shadows and the travelling between planets. And I don't care for profiles and favorites at all, it's so inconvenient to set up. Eh, 3 skills are enough lol.

I understand this feeling greatly. Bioware built a rep on games where your decisions matter. But now, they are just fluff and nothing you actually chose makes any real difference.
Yeah, like that game from that one developer where you spent an entire trilogy making what you thought were hugely important decisions only to have the last fifteen minutes of the game make it painfully clear none of it really mattered. Oh wait, that was Bioware too. They mattered greatly from game to game - here they just don't matter at all, you're just pathfinding along a straight road. Biggest deterrent for me with this game - writing is a close second. Those two things bug me more than the animations, I could get over those if the story/writing/choices were any good.

Maybe if I hadn't been spoiled by all the previous releases in Dragon Age and ME with brilliant characters and an engaging story to boot I wouldn't notice it so much in MEA. But that's the quality I've come to expect in the game is lacking on this front. There are no drunken Cassandra moments are there! All these comparisons with ME1 and companions needing time to warm up, well I don't buy it. For a game as old as it is the magic was there from the beginning and I still love playing it (I was a late convert to ME, only last year). So how they can get it right there and fail here I don't get. They are all one BioWare as far as I am concerned, and they can pick up the phone or Skype or whatever. There was no excuse for lessons learned from previous games to not be incorporated here. If different studios are going to produce 100% different styles of games from what the brand is famous for, then call yourself something else. All that said, with a hefty dose of headcanon I am enjoying it. Just not as passionately as I was about the MET and DA series. So OP, it's a good game and very playable, but only you can decide if you're that engaged by the story and characters. It's a very subjective thing. Loads of my friends love Liam and Jaal and I'm like this lone voice of noooooo!

Right, and in the OT we're just Spectre-ing along a straight road to the star child. Sure, the decisions in ME1 impacted ME2 which in turn impacted ME3, but in the end NONE of it made any real difference. We don't even know how the decisions made in MEA may impact future game installments, if they even bother to continue on with the Andromeda arc, so how can we even make that judgement anyway? Until MEA has another couple of games under it's belt to see how the decisions truly play out I just can't get on board with saying that the decisions in MEA matter any more or less than they did in the OT.

I love it. I'm not entirely sure where it ranks among the previous trilogy but I've played around 60 hours or so of the campaign and I have enjoyed every moment. Unlike DAI where the open world felt like a drag at some points, MEA has felt engaging the whole time. And honestly, I never felt the animations were that bad though the new eyes in 1.05 are amazing. I am still annoyed squadmate controls are gone and I miss some of the classic powers like Warp and Adrenaline Rush but the new movement system and self combos are amazing.
In the end though, it feels like Mass Effect. It is a lighter tone than the original games for sure, but it is still Mass Effect to me. And a new Mass Effect is all I wanted so the game has been amazing to play.

(May contain mild spoilers)
I'm still on my first playthrough - I like to take things real slow. Now have three planets on 100% viability, and am wearing rank 2 N7 armor, a rank 4 Revenant, and a rank 4 Black Widow. My Ryder is level 27.
The optimistic-but-mixed feelings I had in the early stages of the game have evaporated - indeed this occurred well before the patch. The patch doesn't matter much, as I didn't really have many problems to begin with, and experienced only very minor, superficial bugs.
I can honestly say that I'm absolutely loving the game right now, to the extent that I'm filled with impatience to get home from work and get it fired up. I can't wait to get back into Ryder's boots once again.
And anyone thinks I'm some kind of gushing Bioware fanboy, incapable of finding fault with their products should have checked out some of my scathing reviews of some of their other releases back on the old BSN, and my very mixed views views on Dragon Age Inquisition (only Bioware title I had to physically force myself to complete) written on this forum.
To my mind, Andromeda gives me pretty much everything I want in a game. Sure there's lots of flaws, sure it could have been better in many areas, and sure I get very frustrated with the gameplay sometimes, but it's also a deep, rich complex game. All the dumbing down issues that marred ME3 have been dealt with. I love the deep crafting system, I love the combat, which is action-packed and frantic. The story doesn't appear to be anything breathtakingly original, but it's still interesting, and fun to play through - and even the side quests are (mostly) interesting and fun - a far cry from the endless fetch quests of ME3 and Inquisition.
I can even forgive the lack of quicksave, though I wish there was one.
They've basically given me what I want in a videogame, and so I'm pretty happy. The fact that so many others - including professional reviewers effectively tarnished the title by slating the game to hell; purely on the basis of a few bugs, and wonky animations strikes me as almost malicious.

I am liking the game and would enjoy it more if they ditched the profile and favourites system and give me more ability slots. I find just 3 ability slots to be downright insulting on PC and it just screams of consolification taken too fuking far.
