By the numbers, Rank 4 Tech Mastery - Does selecting power duration (increase by 25%) increase the amount of overall damage done by incinerate and overload (or is the same damage just extended over a longer period of time)? If so, how does it compare to selecting the 15% increase in power damage?
I'm playing an engineer in the non-import ME3 situation on insanity. I want to be sure to have enough reputation to not have to shoot the VS during the Citadel 2 (I need 4 bars). With a non-import file, the reputation score can be pretty tight and there is no way to avoid needing to pass the reputation check in order to save the VS (since Shep has never saved the council or Kirrahe or Thane or romanced the VS and is can't do a lot of the side quests that involve ME2 characters). I normally select the power damage option at Rank 4, which leaves my reputation bonus at 12% and I've passed the check by doing every available mission and DLC before Citadel II; but if I select the Duration option, my reputation bonus goes up to 20% and that solves my VS issue... BUT, it got me to wondering which option, by the numbers, actually does more overall damage as well (all other selections being equal)? Currently, I'm at rank 3 incinerate (6:15 sec and 435 damage) and rank 3 overload (6:15 sec and 319 damage).
ETA: I opted to go for the extra reputation this time round and will re-spec if I feel it necessary after I'm through Citadel II. I am still curious as to how the duration vs. damage is applied though. If the longer duration continues on at the same dps as before the choice is made, it would seem to do more damage ultimately than the damage increase selection but I'm just not feeling like it's that way when I'm using those powers currently.
