Having played both extensively,I'm sticking with 6b. I can see the usefulness of the shield boost, but when I need my barriers back melee seems more than sufficient. I too run her as an in your face melee build and the CC aspect is fantastic having eliminated the attack from behind by unshielded enemies. ( looking at you invisible dogs). Running it in campaign as well, charge shielded enemy, all others float harmlessly while I finish him off. Then finish off the mooks at my leisure. I just left the Nexus it the campaign, because all my playtime has gone into MP, but that's exactly the kind of build I was planning on making in SP. Got just enough experience from the Nexus and planet scanning that I can have Charge and Annihilation going into Eos. I will let you know one issue, for some reason charge will not detonate enemies affected by the field in SP. Did a google search and it's a known issue whether it is intended or not only Bioware knows for sure.

Though I agree that the shield restore is too invaluable to part with, I would like to argue that CC powers are much more effective in this game than the last one and seem to go overlooked too often because of a lingering ME3 mindset. Some of the lower damaging powers are catching a lot of *cough* flak but this isn't ME3 any more and stuns, staggers and floats go way further in this game than that one, probably in part because weapons require so much more focus fire to take down targets too. At least that's my observation. So tl;dr 6A is too good to say 6B but 6B probably still has plenty of worth even on gold too. Honestly, have you ever played a single game of ME3MP? After reading this post, I am convinced you have played less than 100 bronze hours and are a self-proclaimed expert on the mechanics of that game. CC not useful and necessary in 3MP? LOLAnd if mook enemies need focused fire on Gold, and need all sorts of extra CC to kill, jesus the balance of this game and its guns is shit. Perhaps I should have slowed it down for those of us who can't connect dots very well; powers/evolutions that ONLY served a CC purpose against unshielded mooks in ME3 were borderline useless at higher difficulties, whereas in this game they're quite a bit more effective. But I'm sure you were absolutely killing it on Platinum with your Pull and Lifting Shockwave builds you fucking champ you.

I should probably try vortex.
I had been avoiding it, because of how little it helps on armored opponents, and how brief its use is on shielded opponents. But it would help focus fire on the hard targets...

I have not leveled her up to try either yet, but in my mind's eye, I can't see shields being worth it. Biotic explosions often knock people out of the annihilation field's reach, and given the nerf to the explosion's damage, enemies are usually left alive. Enemies need to die within the field to gain the shield boost, yes? In my experience thus far, enemies keep getting blown outside of the field and then die via weapons.
So even though I have not tested it yet, just based on what I see happening now, the crowd control advantage of the vortex seem like a no brainer to me. Especially with the shear quantity of puppy dogs constantly rushing up to bite your ankles. That annoyance alone getting squashed by vortex seems too good to pass up.
If shields are an issue, I would think that saving barrier would be an option.

Also, Shockwave is broken badly on PC, not the power to talk about. Pull has the same or less efficacy in MEAMP than ME3MP. Period. Get a grip duder.

If shields are an issue, I would think that saving barrier would be an option. That's more of a personal playstyle conflict. You can control where enemies are thrown by where you use your powers, you can use your powers to finish guys off rather than initiate, you can chase them, you can kill the guys who weren't blown away first, etc. Saving barrier is fantastic for emergencies while draining field is for sustain, lance fuel, and team support. They don't really overlap.

Entertainment matters too, as long as you can live. Watching a doggo trot up to me while I'm doing a device, and then watching it float away while I finish the device giggling to myself, is worth a whole bunch. Entertainment is the only thing that matters to me. And, if people deem Vortex useless, then that's all the more reason for me to pick it and make it work for me. I don't play games to min/max. Been there, done that, got tired of it. To me, the floating mooks are fun, so that's the only reason I picked it, and would probably pick it every time again. Well, and they make a good invite to the less experienced players to, for once, throw some detonator at my primed targets instead of shooting them. Save

Been running the AA some more, and just got Annihilation to 6 and took the "make enemies float" evo, which is really delightful on Bronze/Silver. And I can see it still being useful on Gold. But that shield recharge on killing enemies seems like it could be pretty damn good too. Thoughts and opinions on which is the stronger option? I have seen tons of mele Asari Adepts and they are just bad... If you wona go mele go Kroguard. The 6 ( aka floating evo ) is probably the king of CC in this game. In fact that evolution alone makes the Kett as a faction a huge joke. Dash forward to your target ( regardless of shields ), get them in your AA, blast them whit Lance - congratulation they just lost their shields and now are floating for what amount a smoke brake time. Then proceed to kill them at your own pace. In the end the shield evo - returns 30% shields on a KILL. Floating evo makes it so that nothing in your AA cant fight back. For a bit i did test the mele asari adept myself - but its just miles weaker.

Vortex is way better then shield IMO, why? Why do u wanna take shield? Cos u wanna stay alive? And how do u stay alive? When u dont get hit. Floating enemies dont hit u! All enemies that come up behind u, arround corners, or if u burst into a group or bust a shield of an enemy, they will float. As I said a floating enemy wont hit u, so it does keep u alive longer and its safer than the 30% shield restore on enemy kill. Trust me I tried both extensively. I started with the vortex and did very well on gold. I then switched to shield cos I read about it on the forums, everyone would use it. I played with it and I noticed more deaths than I had with vortex. Enemies became harder to kill cos they dont get CC'ed. Melee restores enough shield. Yet if u die, u are doing something wrong. FYI: I play a full melee build. Close up fights. Pistol for more melee dmg. So maybe if u dont have shield-restore on melee hit, and u are using only weapons, u might wanna take the shield-restore annihilation.I've played both specs as well. After changing AF to radius with vortex, I'll never go back. I don't miss the 30% shield restore. The CC ability of vortex is immensely more valuable

They don't really overlap. Fair point. I don't necessarily disagree. My usage may be a little skewed because I mostly play with my two brothers + 1 pug. We will often try to combo powers together, and having a second detonator following the Asari Adept is common. So I only have so much control over when someone goes flying. Ultimately, I plan to play around with both builds to see which functions better for my play style.

Must say I'm loving the Asari Adept (though still low level). I keep the priming field almost permanently on and go double-boom with combos and a shotgun...

Got to chime in on this.
I had a build specced into 6a for a long time while running gold and it is indeed a fine build. If you melee someone and kill them you get the 20% from melee and 30% from annihilation. The only issue is large groups shooting you from all directions both inside and outside your field, and this can be overwhelming if you have no team backup for support.
I respecced into vortex and I have to say I found very effective indeed and incredibly fun. I was running around like pennywise saying "they allll float!" "And when you're down here with me, YOU'LL FLOAT TOO!"
It really is great agains mooks for objectives, for running through a room and immediately watching red mooks become complete non-threats. It helped massively for being aggressive, but with a room of armoured targets, you'll miss the 30% shield keeping you alive.
Both are great choices, I've gone back into 30% barrier as I'm testing a shield powered lance and throw as my dump stat.
