I really disliked Liara's turn to being darker and "more mature" in ME2 and 3. I thought it started out pretty fine within ME2 but in 3 she was just another character altogether IMO. I know she changed writers along the way but a character like Tali didn't feel like she changed for no reason and Garrus's arc was also pretty seamless.
However every so often it happens that if there's a time skip in between games or DLC BioWare sees it as an excuse to make a huge change but without letting us see the developments. Time change people, but not to such ridiculous amounts as Varric becoming Viscount of Kirkwall when we didn't look or Leliana or Liara going from the most sweetest and gullible people to being the darkest and most disturbed people in a matter of a few years.
For example, I'll roll my eyes if PeeBee shows up in Andromeda 2 and then she's suddenly completely mature and wise or something, so I hope for good measure BioWare can just stick to their notes and keep the characters true to themselves this time and make smaller incremental developments off-screen but not "Before I was a reclusive, untrusting troublemaker. Now, I'm the tutor of the largest science team with the best sense of responsibility all thanks to you Ryder, drinks are on me, save the champaigne, BioWare writing cliches, blablabla", just keep it genuine.

...or Leliana or Liara going from the most sweetest and gullible people to being the darkest and most disturbed people in a matter of a few years. Leliana only pretended to be "sweet" she had a very dark past and I enjoyed her character development between DAO and DAI. She felt more honest to me in DAI, more grown up (it's been ten years and everything she used to believe in has been shattered). Liara however I agree with you. Considering how long the Asari live and that she was considered to be just a child among her people, I found her character development between 1 and 2 way too sudden. She was a naive archaeologist who didn't seem to have much experience of the world or people, then two years later she's the most respected information broker in Ilium? That made no sense at all. Most jarring to me was however how Jack changed between 2 and 3. She went from a mentally unstable space terrorist to a nice schoolteacher with a swear jar? Fucking hated that. She's my favorite character from the original trilogy but I can barely stand her in ME3. Part of the problem was how little time passed between the games (making the character development that happened behind the scenes feel sudden and unrealistic).
