I really don't understand why this is there in the first place aside from the fact that the "zoom-in" view it makes first upon arriving seems like there should be a menu that is invisible and skipped over when it goes into orbital "scanning" view. You know, you can imagine this menu from the trilogy, right? Same view, but then you press "scan" and it goes The closest example I can give in case you don't know what I mean by "invisible menu" is Action Mode in ME3. There's still technically an invisible dialogue wheel there, but you just don't see it because the choices are locked in and the check to make it appear are skipped essentially. I hope now that they've made skipping the traveling possible in 1.05, they can next look into simply avoiding the "zoom-in" before it lands in the "scanning" mode. You can tell as you're moving towards the planets in this game how nice it would feel if it just steadily deaccelerates when the planet is visible in the center and then seamlessly brings up the hud with the scanner. It would make me want to view the planet traveling stuff. Those 2-4 seconds in between the "zoom in" -> "zoom out" is super annoying to look at, and I hope it can simply be omitted.

AngryJoe suggested it was because they were giving you a "postcard" view. But I agree it's annoying.

I can see why people would think that and I knew someone were gonna think it's by design but my guess is that it's just a leftover from a design-choice they scrapped and there was originally a menu in the "postcard view" at some point in time.

TB said it might have just been a time sink... This kind of thing is nice to look at but it needs to be skippable because it will get old sooner or later and no one will want to see it at all.

If it wasn't by design, you'd think they would have removed it. But considering there's a lot they should have done to "clean up" the game prior to launch that didn't get done, you could right. Personally, I think it's by design.

I think it's because of the way it's programmed and as you say they need to do a little bit of a workaround to make traveling work when it doesn't have the postcard-view before the scanner view.

Yeah I do wish that when zooming in on a planet, it stayed zoomed in to show that we're in orbit. Honestly I'd skip the scan and probe thing and go back to ME1. I mean, I swept over the surface of this godforsaken rock just to discover an active volcano? C'mon.
