I have played a shitload of this game. Besides solos, I would say 95% of my matches have been off-host. I state that information to give whatever credibility it can to the following claims about mitigating DPS loss for playing off-host. 1> Rapid-fire weapons reign supreme The most obvious demonstration of this is a Javelin GI vs Hurricane GI. On-host, either kit and build can dominate like few others. Off-host, depending on degree of latency, the HurriGI will destroy the Javelin GI, and will score a normal amount of kills with the gun. This is why a level 1 SI with Indra, in good hands (like mine hehe) can wreck a scoreboard off-host, while that same player in the same match with Widow might score dead last. 2> Some powers need stagger to work off-host This one is tricky. We already know that projectile weapons suffer off-host. However, they also stagger well and make SubNet actually land off-host. Same deal with Shockwave, and other powers with shaky hit detection. Rolling a kit with SubNet off-host is sketchy already. Never stopped me I double down on risky, and unless the lag is just unplayable in general, the projectile weapon makes a great primer and power-lock setup. 3> Adrenaline. Since the game is dead now, I figured I'd spill my beans.

You did mention Javelin and Hurricane. I don't know about GI, but as far as HSol goes, they are nowhere near. Javelin happens to be -for me at least- the most dangerous and fearsome weapon in this game. Any kit, any map, any faction. If it is not the High Lord, Javelin will be. Adrenaline Rush can literally disintegrate Platinum bosses with it in mere seconds. Off-host for me is better. So, in my book, rapid-fire weapons are not absolutely superior to one-shot cannons. It's a -designed- beautiful balance, to each his own. Just my experience. You still playing this game? I did a Gold Mantis run earlier. I swear this gun fires nostalgia rounds.

Javelin is awesome, and on a good host it is still awesome. On a bad host, with Javelin/Mantis/Widow - who really knows what you're aiming at on a bad host? The Marauder whose head should have popped just teleported 5 feet... Indra can hit that head, just keep shooting. I will try and find a decent host with average to bad lag, that doesn't leave the lobby after one game with me, and record a video with Javelin in one match and Indra the other. Science must be done.

I do indeed think RoF is a factor. I play almost exclusively off-host, and I have similar experiences as OP. Yesterday I was playing Human soldier with Claymore, and I swear I was aiming right between the eyes of a Praetorian, standing basically right in front of it, and did zero damage two shots in a row. This happened several times during that game, especially in situations where the area is crowded with enemies. This is especially amazing because the Claymore has a pretty wide spread.
