Yeah, I've also done goofy shit like this with friends but it feels like a bunch of 17-year-olds and not mid-twenties who are doing important things. I like that the crew can feel like family but I think BioWare should tie up the knot a little bit next time. They've sunken too far into the deep end with this type of casual Citadel DLC stuff IMO where everything is just meandering. I did like that this side quest builds up over the course of the game and goes through most crew members to help establish it though. I just think the scene is super forced and feels like some bad bonus material. It's a real "kill your babies" situation (context: turn of phrase that refers to when artists have to cut out stuff they really like for a better overall impression) Regarding whether it's comical or not, I just think this was too slapstick-like. It's childish. The comparison is a stark contrast to this Wanna make it funny and endearing? Make it at least look like it's a bunch of adults having fun. I'll knock the witcher for all kinds of reasons but when this little drinking game happened and evolved into what it did i almost choked on my own tongue laughing.

What I took from that moment was that it was the best moment in the entire game. Obviously that's what they wanted with Movie Night too. All the employees keep retweeting fans's screenshots from it and some even said "I've been waiting so long to see everyone's movie night pics" which just makes it kinda pathetic IMO. This is built up to be the culmination of the bond you establish with your mates but it's just this extreme fanservice moment that doesn't feel earned.
They really need to get off that Citadel DLC horse soon because I like the banter way more and I'd rather have an actual "all boys and girls out" night where we pub-crawl to Vortex on the Nexus and the Kadara Bar and instead of just cutting between "moments" and highlights it should actually show how the event progresses from A to B and not just show the scene and then everyone's disappeared afterwards. It's halfhearted and BioWare doesn't give it a 110% as they should.
The reason I find Movie Night fanservice-y is because it keeps jumping from "look at how endearing this moment is" to the next but there's no room for just quiet time or that moment when maybe Vetra says "Drack, can you move a little to the side?". There's no attention to detail and it doesn't feel real or earned to me. I guess it's also just too vanilla. Of all the crazy things we could've done to cement how good friends we all are, they could've thought up something less dry.

I agree with that the build up and the side quests of obtaining everything (would it have been that hard to show someone spilling popcorn or even eating it).. I know it would have been hard to pull off but I really thought the movie should have been scenes from the previous games. Make it a "oh that couldn't have happened" type of scene.......... The Citadel DLC comment though stings if you are talking about the Apartment party. I enjoyed the heck out of that. I guess if you don't find Grunt being a bouncer funny, then idk...

The problem to me is time. I liked the Movie night. But I like campy dorky stuff. I love the Citadel party. Why one so much more then the other? Well for one there was more interaction so it felt better at the party. But more importantaly I think was time. Ive had one game with these characters. Basically I just met them. Shepards crew, I had know for years. We had been to hell together. Suffered together. Saved each other over and over again.
The Party feels like a group of life long friends getting together to blow off steam and relax away from the gunfire. The movie night feels more like something a boss we say we need for a team building exercise. Maybe Lexi would have been a better choice to run it. Anyway I enjoyed it. But I kept thinking, to soon.

The Citadel DLC comment though stings if you are talking about the Apartment party. I enjoyed the heck out of that. I guess if you don't find Grunt being a bouncer funny, then idk... You misunderstood. I don't dislike Citadel DLC at all. I think it was earned but the context for it was a trilogy that had a broken ending that left many fans including myself pretty depressed over it and all I wanted was some closure and fun with my Mass Effect friends. It totally gave me that. However, since DA:I and now this BioWare seems to have mistaken Citadel DLC's success for being good simply because it was fun and lighthearted, but it took 3 games of establishing the cast to make it feel as it did... Andromeda doesn't properly establish a cast, hell, it barely even has a story for each squad-member before it shoves "endearing lighthearted bonding moment" down your throat (sorry, I had to, this is BSN after all ). Needless to say, it does not feel earned, quite the contrary :/

Movie night was emblematic of one of my main issues with Andromeda's story, after Ryder. Citadel was well received, but it seems BW made a knee-jerk reaction in thinking they should base the tone of Andromeda off it. I liked Citadel, but the reason many aspects landed well was because of its timing and previous games. Trying to replicate that same feeling without earning those moments made it come off as tone-deaf and hollow.

LOL. Poor OP inadvertently baited BSN's sunshine brigade. Btw, is the whole "I cringed at x" a Millennial thing? You kids today, with your hip-hop and your Pokeymans and the self-consciousness. Anyway, finally did movie night. Post-ending, after something like 20 days of a non-rushed playthrough (I don't know where some of you find the time to complete this game in under a week, honestly), after many conversations and missions with my team--it certainly felt "earned." Citadel was my least favorite ME3 DLC of the bunch because of the cutesiness, though I did enjoy certain party interactions and the group photo. I thought movie night was way more appropriate. Citadel as a whole was just a fucking odd non-apology apology thing that was way too meta and incongruent with the rest of the game for my liking. Certainly didn't do shit to make me okay with the ending. This totally fit in with the rest of the game's more optimistic, fun space adventure thing, on the other hand. Also, my Ryder didn't ham up anything. He and Kallo nailed their scene to enthusiastic applause.

Wanna make it funny and endearing? Make it at least look like it's a bunch of adults having fun. You're not seriously suggesting that some guys drinking too much, dressing in too small womens clothes and making drunken crank calls is a more mature entertainment, or behaviour? Oooh the witcher fanbois.

I did 4 tours in Iraq anon and if your CO caught you doing this shit he'd have you court martialed or shot. Clearly you're full of shit. Court martialed or shot huh? Lighten up Francis. Good thing I was in the US Army and not the Werhmacht. Seriously, when you're stationed at a COP in the middle of bum fuckistan you horse around sometimes. Or if you're a marine you draw dicks on everything for a past time hobby. Anyways I'll admit, daily was an exaggeration, however there were days when no one was trying to kill you and you're shit was finished that you just killed time. Admit you're telling tall tales man. If you had set a spider on my pillow, or pissed on my leg in the shower, or any of the other juvenile shit 18-26 year old children toting guns do... I would have beat the shit out of you and dragged you to the CO and dropped you at his desk.

And the scene kept going black during Kallo's acting scene, so I didn't even get to enjoy that. Tried it twice, same probs. Thanks, Bioware!
