So I haven't left Horizon Forbidden West yet, but I did install Starfield and my mods (updated some too). I cleaned up some exploration thingys in the Daunt today. Did Machine Strikes (not finished in Barren Lights only board #1), melee pit and the Hunting Ground (full grade!). I should probably have done the melee pit at the start of the game. It explain all the combos...and I learned that the timing is stupid too. And I'm still annoyed Aloy can't block while human enemies can! Then I flew toward some part of the map past Barren Light where I had things left to find. Then ended up at the last big "city" because the easiest way to upgrade pouches is not to hunt animals and fish. It's to spend 20k-30k shards to buy the parts at a potion maker. No I haven't played that, but I'm not sure I want to play it either regardless of how cute it is.
I'm also still kinda in Forbidden West. I just went and did the Machine Strike tutorial (I didn't bother with any of the hunting grounds, melee pit and that mini-game so...) and exploring the Daunt now that I have the special tools. And reading on the Horizon Reddit, I'm not the only one annoyed by the combat. What specifically annoyed you about the combat? I found it hard to adjust to for a while the first PT as different weapons in this game seemed to have been strengthened compared to the go To's in the last game. I know you like Melee and I am guessing maybe that is where your grievances may lie. I like to play ranged and the only real adjustment I had to make was that the Sharp Shot Bow was the new king of the heap, but you often had to set machines up with the elemental payloads of the Hunter Bow or the Sling. Spears are the OTT weapons, especially exploding ones and the Bolt Blaster was also even a big machine tamer, especially the freeze bolt one. However I thought the game had been built with far more Melee focus which meant for me a lot of the stuff they added I rarely used. Many of the machines are too aggressive/fast into body slamming you for the amount of HP they have and how hard the weakpoints/components are to hit (and I played on Easy, but enemies just have 20% less health then normal). Especially with the slow weapons aim/firing rate. I feel like combat is a slug because of it. I think they know about it because Burned Shores felt better balanced, at least the new machines didn't feel as aggressive. It turn the combat into trying to get a disabled state to get a critical strike which is kinda boring or just using the spike thrower because it's the most damaging weapon (until you get the special one in Burning Shores).
As for melee, it deals basically no damage on machines and totally useless against the bigger ones since they just trample you and have slam attacks that stun Aloy even if they land 10 feet away. I like resonator blast, but it's very hard to pull off rapidly against machines with all the stunned/knocked down state that stop you from doing combos to build up energy.

azarhal so yeah I experienced the slamming stuff earlier because I got no warning of the attacks or I just missed a machine when I scanned. I use Ranged attacks so and Stealth unless absolutely necessary, so I have no trouble aiming and hitting weak points and on Easy that often takes a machine out totally if it is a small to medium one. Especially if you hit the right weak point and especially if you use the Ranged Valor ability. That will take a Tremor Tusk down with one shot from the Sharp Shot bow to a weak point. The bigger machines like the Thunder Jaw I can usually take its radar and two main weapons off before I have to run somewhere and then get more shots off but I rarely have to fight it melee style and that's when I use the spears. Or the sling or hunter bow to use an element to slow it down then the bow again. Same with Tremor Tusks and other big machines.

Played and beat Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
I don't know why, but every time I watch A Few Good Men, I get this urge to replay the game and it helps that Kiefer Sutherland is in both. But going back to Ground Zeroes, I'm still having more fun in the closed prison camp than I ever did the open world of Phantom Pain. The atmosphere is perfect, the map design is amazing, I enjoyed the side missions especially the one where you get beat it just by riding in the back of a truck, climbing a ladder, grabbing a tape and getting back to the truck and waiting for the driver to get you out of the mission area. But that''s not all you can do in that mission, you can even replay it to find the true tape and it involves you interrogating an undercover agent and a Marine which then turns out to be a bigger conspiracy.
This is what Phantom Pain was suppose to be, but instead it got too hooked up on Motherbase building, weapon customization, unnecessary multiplayer and the lifeless open world.

Fallout 4Bumped into the cultists that are also trying to sucker people in that one area. I was actually able to pass the charisma check to get them off me but ultimately have left them alive for now...since I also picked up the Silver Shroud radio signal. Pretty sure this is the first time I have ever visited the Memory Den before going there with Nick and the lady was all like 'this is not for you' didn't pass the speech check. Kind of an interesting twist, mind you only my third playthrough of this game. But I was still able to move around and got in contact with the SIlver Shroud Ghoul guy. Forgot Hubris comics was infested with ghouls. Couple of interesting developments happened here. I got a Pipe Pistol with a supressor on it. I also was quite surprised to find out that it does more damage then the 10 mm one. So Clint got a new side arm which its funny so far while he is based on Hawkeye he is using an awful lot of pistol stuff in this campaign so far, makes me think I should've based him on Jack Bauer. . At the end of the Hubris Comics mission though they had a glowing one ghoul right in the middle of the place. For some reason Dogmeat was able to pin it down sufficiently for me to take pot shots at it, but it also had friends so I died twice to the thing. Pretty tough fight. Though felt I couldn't use explosives cause of Dogmeat...so in the end though it chased me all the way back down the hall before I turned around and shot at the thing with a burst of weapons. Next up more similar develops. The 'Silver Shroud' arc does not end there, this is quite an involved quest which I was hoping to get it all done. Big bit from here was fighting the...what's her face in the combat armor in the appartment. Got her in one go but it took me a steak to eat. Next thing been debating with the whole...Silver Shroud thing...using the SMG patterned on the Thompson. Typically feel they go through ammo very quickly for Fallout and...well they go through ammo very quickly. But could make a descent weapon, especially since I don't know if I am going to stick to shotguns this go around. Oh also the Mysterious Stranger has been really helpful to me got three baddies for me. Starting to have things come together. Got my SMG now, got a Hunting Rifle, and a suppressed pistol. Course I have to not get too cocky either.

THE PALE BEYOND Finished the game a second time and managed to save everyone. Wasn't difficult this time. Started rationing everything early on and avoided decisions that led to bad outcomes before. Saw the other ending. The bad one as I see it but it's somehow the one where you get to talk with everyone again and it got me all emotional again. Sadly I failed to get the troublemaker loyal once again. You basically have to get every conversation with him right to fill the bar up. Very slim margin of error for him while others shower you with aporoval. I have a feeling it's really rewarding to see him have your back at the end but I can't be bothered to replay AGAIN. Especially since a lot of conversations happen at the end of each week and I'd have to restart the week if I mess up and get a negative reaction. I had him like 80% loyal, sigh. My friend finished the game too, with much reloading bad weeks she managed to save everyone on her first and only PT. She really enjoyed the game too but thought the ending was a bit lackluster because there is no explanation for the big twist. Which is true and fair. Finished a Telltale-like game called AS DUSK FALLS, it's shortish with 6-7h of playtime and there's reason to believe they cut the game short because there are loose ends. Game info says it's a story of two families over 30 years but it's not 30 years but like 14. There's a cliffhanger ending. So I think they ran out of money or time and act 3 is missing. It's not a big deal, the story is mostly wrapped up but the cliffhanger seems to be about something that happened in the past which would then indeed be a story covering 30 years. Despite that I enjoyed it. Engaging storytelling even though they pulled every story trope imaginable for this family drama turned hostage story turned fugitive thriller. Elias Toufexis is one of the voice actors btw! The actors are all very good. I will have to replay to see just how different the outcomes for all characters can be. Obviously some cannot die for story reasons. But it's going to be interesting. One person died and I wonder if it's possible to keep everyone alive. I do recommend this for people who love Telltale decision making games. Got the same QuickTime events. Those are super easy though with a generous time frame. Only fucked up one of them. Negative is the weird art style that is basically stop motion images at 30fps. Really weird and takes some getting used to. Haven't playing something this choppy and headache inducing in a while. So on a technical level this game feels extremely outdated. The painted filter on real actor faces is fine, although the graphics even with the HD texture pack looks like something from 20 years ago. Maybe that was by design because the game starts in 1998. Giving it a 8/10 for the narrative compared to some of the best Telltale games. Would buy another one by that studio.

Divine Divinity Original Sin (enhanced edition) is the game that has its clutches dugged into me still. Larian studios keeps delivering I say I have been playing this game since the start of June, combining it with my daily (addiction) of SWTOR during my daily gaming time. Summer time is busy; tons of other stuff going on which drain my free time. Good thing I got some really nice games during Steam sale once summer is over and I finished DDOS (think I am at about 90% now)

Hades One escape with the shield and another with the spear bringing it up to 8 successful attempts. And like 60 failed ones. Still stuck at the final boss with the Adamant Rail and don't even want to think about the bow. Got the Bat and Bouldy keepsake. Adoring the latter since while rocks fall on the final boss doesn't kill him, the mental idea is hilarious.
Power Washing Simulator Was just going to do one level. Ended up doing five while watching videos on the side, ending up in a cycle of "Just play a bit more while the video finishes. Check out one video while I finish this level. Rinse and repeat. A delightful way to shut my brain off for the day.
Trails of Cold Steel III Managed to make a bit of a progress but still got a large chill talk session left. Feeling really amused that one of the factions is called Gnomes. Will we be Gnomed? And is George Nome a fun coincidence or foreshadowing. I have no pun for this but if I had I'd put it here.

Fallout 4Things continue to click into place for this playthrough. Starting to grind in enough time and things are starting to come together in the long term. And well the Silver Shroud Quest essentially took me two days to finish. At least part of this is it did give me 750 caps and like just south of 500 XP for it, now at level 11. And I got a little lost in the hospital where what's his face was waiting for me at the end. Did just have enough Charisma to get his guards to leave so it was just me and him, well at least on the second attempt because my first attempt my controller is starting to drift bad and I drifted too close. The ghoul got killed in the process though and I killed what's his face again. From there went and got the first actual companion I got is...drum roll please...MacCready. Paid his fee this time out, not sure I always do that, again 3 PTs in. But then he basically lasted all of five seconds as I then went to the Combat Zone to pick up Cait of the Shotgun wielding. Going to be interesting to see how I balance out these companions long term. I do like dogmeat but he is a bit of a beserker so not always the best espeially for explosives. Cait is an option because similar logic to Drak or Cora in Andromeda she can go in close while I pick off people from a distance, though Dogmeat could also serve that role when he pins em down. So yeah from here going to be working on getting the rest of the companions and balancing out when I am going to try and do the 'new' quests' as long as I remember to do them and what not...and then probably going to have to connect with the Railroad. Also going to work towards getting Local Leader on the first one, hope it connects all the workbenches in the game whether or not they are at a settlement or not but knowing my luck, probably not. But that will at least require me to get my charisma up a bit.

Ringed aspen wand, eleven and a half inches, brittle, with a phoenix feather at its core. The wand of a determined and hard-headed duelist with imaginative and resourceful tactics. And maybe not too much sense or foresight. Who needs elaborate adventuring outfits when you have a fucking Gryffindor school uniform? Those robes are probably enchanted to be impact- and flame-resistant just on general principle. Madam Malkins Augustus Hill knows what Gryffindors be like. You guys can't see it, but Victoria is batting her eyelashes like a hawk in a hurricane here. Even though Garreth Weasley has nicer hair. As the new girl in class, you have to keep your options open.

SWTORBH finished Alderaan, One quest left to finish her chapter 1 too. SkyrimI made Dan the Bard. He's going to be a smooth talking thieving Bard (he's a wood elf too). At least that is the plan. I rarely stick to my plans. For example, I was thinking going heavy magic, but the call of stealth archery is being heard... StarfieldI made a character last night: Amelia Dvorsky, a former Bouncer from Neon who got alien DNA and worship the Great Serpent.

Fallout 4
Well I could have a real problem on my hands, and well a REAL problem. Granted I don't enjoy this game to lose a day's of progress so maybe the second part of that does not matter.
One of the annoying things about this game is if you do get into a tight spot, like a bunch of SUper Mutants at a random place in the middle of nowhere. They kind of ganged up on me and I died and had to start all the way over from the beginning.
And then the fun began. Wanted to knock out a few more of the new quests and what not even given the danger. And I said to myself if the first one just invovled a kill mission then I would do another one. It did. Pyro and a few support members. Pyro had power armor. I tried my Piggy bank Fatman launcher though on the third attempt and killed him.
Then started Echoes of the Past. It required me to listen to a distress call. So I did, then a storm rolled in so I had to take cover in a building...full of Super Mutants. Which didn't really give me too many issues this time. I even had a Legendary Super Mutant Enforcer in there...hut the Piggy actually got him in one hit. First time I have really been using a Fat man this much. That is where the trouble began though since I tried leaving the building and the storm is just not going away which may be problematic if it is connected to the quest like I suspect it would be. But then on one of the times I was ambushed. The objective changed to 'defeat the ambush' And I died quite instantly. Though in the process I thought I recognized the sound of the weapons being used and looking into the matter seemed to confirm it, along with the name its obvious, the Enclave. Also the Wiki did mention that one should be around level 20-30 before trying it and part of it takes me to the Glowing Sea. Of course in these games it does not give you a recommended level so that is that. I am stuck in this building, an ambush waiting outside for me, and well, this is not going to be a good tactical position to be in...the kind of gameplay ending tactical situation.

At this rate all future Bioware games will be half done and modders need to rescue it for free.

Phew, today we should be added the final additions to the creature roster of the game. We shall also head towards greatness as we move forward:

Ok, we strp a bit back from the scary knight and head over a new route which has another Dsncing Lion Beast who, while a pain to battle from afar, is a cake walk with this Legendary Weapon:

SWTORFinished chapter 1 of my BH. And not sure what character to advance now. If I continue with my BH or go back to my SI or Consular (the most recent ones ). Otherwise, yesterday I posted my new Starfield on imgur and I spotted some of my BG3 character and I might be feeling going back into that...but somehow I feel like I need something "light". I should probably stick to Starfield in that case.

colfoley Have you heard the total conversion 'Fallout: London' mod for 'Fallout 4' has been released. I've always wanted to play a Fallout set in post apocalyptic Europe. Tim Cain has said if he owned the IP he'd have the sequels take place in other countries. I downloaded the mod through GOG.com: www.gog.com/en/game/fallout_london
