Not the most exciting levels, but tricky ones. very difficult one, I skipped killing dem spideys but all other big demons. the next level was high, but not very artistically rich. So this from one of the rooms there and next level... was a die betchez level!

Listened to Barnabas and Herodotos and Kassandra discussing what the stars are. Did you ever sail out during s storm and get Kass' and Barnabas' conversation about it? It goes something like this: Barnabas: "I don't think I have ever seen a storm like this one. We should have made an offering to Poseidon before leaving the harbor." Kass: "Oh, I can give him an offering right now alright." *you hear the sound of her puking* LOL yes I did hear that one, made me laugh again even reading it. I think Barnabas says something after Kass is sick like: "Maybe next time we'll just use a lamb"

So continued my Odyssey yesterday and continued revealing sites and areas I hadn't been to and finished some quest lines that I had started previously but didn't realise there was more to them. In particular finished all the treasure hunting for every ones favourite Pirate Queen Xenia. They were mostly puzzles, look at a map, figure out where it is and then find the treasure which was an artefact like Apollo's Lyre and Pan's Flute. I couldn't be bothered scouring the map so scoured Google instead to get the location and then did the quests. Found a couple of isolated places I hadn't revealed and cleared them and then headed to Lesbos which I had hardly done anything and which is home to Medusa. Accidentally picked up the medusa questline 1st and got myself all excited about taking on for me what will undoubtedly be a hard fight but the game insisted I jump through hoops. So picked up several other quests and did the those first, not stalling at all. Today will get the pre Medusa stuff done. Xenia the Pirate Queen: Flying Xenia's colours for another quest: Hanging with some friends at Pans Cave So one of the funniest quests in the game IMHO. A young guy is locked in cage to protect his parents from his terrible rage that an Oracle has prophesised will lead to his mother bleeding and his fathers screams and that they will wrack his dreams. To help him Kassandra has to retrieve the guys (Supideo) sword from a blacksmith and the shield from a bandit. Spoilers: Ikaros getting some attention Scenery

Picked up the 2B DLC-Pack for Soul Calibur. A real love letter to Automata. Her moveset is very faithful to her animation set from the main game and her playstyle very beginner friendly. Played a set of games that involed only mirror matches and she's a blast to play and play against.

Your fiance is fine. I made out with him myself. Snerk. So yeah, more Assassin's Creed Brotherhood today. Actually managed to finish the main story so that was nice. Saved my baes baes. Twice in a row which was pretty amusing. Did not get to snog with Bartholomew though. But spending time with him is as good, so. Did a few Romulus lairs. Didn't full synchro on either of them. For the first I blame bad telegraphing, since he could have totally caught the chain and slided on it like Lara Croft. Which Ezio is worse than, btw, since he just goes "Nice" when he wrecks priceless architecture, just because it's less work for his lazy ass. Granted Lara might be as bad, but still. Second was because Ezio hadn't yet heard of arrow deflection like Geralt had and dog people are pricks. Like lol, there are five of them ahead, they all see me and they all have ranged weapons, my health bars are as good as gone. On the other hand, I full synchroed as Vulpe's little "don't loose five health points mission" even if I got like seven of them knocked off Ezio by one of them big bois. Won't complain though, since we all know gift horses have nasty teeth.
The end game went by real fast. Got a bit of a cramp in my hand the final session and was a bit disappointed that nothing happened in the credits because I could have reaaaally gone to the bathroom. But otherwise it was nice. Had been kinda indirectly spoiled about one part of it was a bit more amusing than it should've been.
Pretty sure the repressed memory I unlocked is the last one, so no particular desire to try and full syncro the main quests I failed. Have got a bunch of assassination quests open, think one scholarly quest and then most of the faction quests (except for the Courtesans ones since I always seem to managed to finish them in games...) . Probably going to do the repressed memory one, but not sure if I can be bothered with the rest. I also know that there is a free Leonardo expansion you can get, but doubt I'll play it unless someone can sell me on it I guess.
All in all, I liked this game. Anger issues aside.

In "Tyranny" the Fatebinder and his party went to the destroyed city of Stalwart. There they ran into a Crescent Runner of the Disfavored. After introductions the Runner offered to take them to the fortress Sentinel Stand. There on the ramparts was a lone Unbroken soldier on watch duty. He told the FB that they weren't gonna get through into the fortress. THe Runner told the FB that another soldier besides Amelia that was captured and moved to Duskwatch Fort. His name was Callius and he knew how to get into Sentinel Stand. The FB and party left to Duskwatch Fort were they met another Runner who led them to the DIsfavored Captain. The Captain told the FB that Callius was still indeed alive and that they needed a plan to get in. The Captain told the FB that the Fb had to infiltrate the fort at night and open the front gates. The FB agreed and waited for nightfall. At night the party infiltrated the fort by breaking down a crumbling wall. They snuck through killing whichever guard spotted them. They located Callius and at first he thought they were Unbroken soldiers messing with his head. The FB saluted the Callius with the words "Graven Ashe Protects", the soldier then knew they were there to rescue him. He said he wouldn't leave until all the unbroken were killed. The party headed towards the front fought three tough guards and opened the gates. The DIsfavored soldiers stormed in and attacked the unbroken captain with the help of the FB and party. After the fight the Captain said he was going to get Callius. THe FB followed and Callius told him what he wanted to know. That the FB needed an artifact to safely enter Sentinel stand without the storm disintegrating him. A storm the FB caused earlier this year when he read Kyros's Edict. The captain told the FB to tell the news to Graven Ashe. The party left to Iron Hearth.

Fallout 4. Made it to Nuka World. Walked through the gauntlet, it was a piece of cake. Killed that overboss clown and took over his position. Believe Jessica will exterminate all of those raiders when the time comes. Went to Galactic Zone and found 20 Cores so I could shut down the robot defenses there. Didn't destroy any robots on the outside, I ran around to avoid them and took plenty of stimpacks. Had to destroy the robots in RobCo Battlezone. Confined space there was no choice. This is a dead is dead game and I'm not going to die because of robot preservation inside that building. Thinking Cait doesn't like my character. Took another shotgun blast to the knee. Really?!?! This again? I ought empty this gun into your stupid head. You don't look like a family man type, I think you're lying. And if not, you deserve to die for running like a coward and leaving your family behind.
*Edit Ok that did it! How's that .50 cal feel in the back of the head? Want more? I got more for you!

Have you made it large address aware? Are you asking me? If so, what's that? It allows the executable to use more memory. If you use texture mods for example on mass effect, it can swiftly run out of available memory and crash. Making it large address aware allows it to use more system ram and be more stable. It's a legacy of mass effect being old.

It doesn't make sense that a small concentrated section like the conversation with Jenkins used a lot of memory and caused a crash. Doesn't galloping around in bigger zones use even more memory and by rights, crash straight off? It didn't happen for the latter. Anyway, I'm playing MET1 with the mod to see how it runs. If important dialogue sections cause the game to CTD, I can stop playing.

It always used to crash when the Geth set the bomb for me before enabling LAA. It will happen basically when the game uses over 1 gig (i think) of memory if you don't switch it. It's why the textures etc are so low res.

If important dialogue sections cause the game to CTD, I can stop playing. It's tough to predict, very much depends on the scene. The Normandy does have a very high concentration of memory intensive content, so I'd say it is not unlikely this could have been the issue. I take it you are using MEUTIM, right? When you make the required changes to the config files, make sure you set the files to read only afterward (and it's also best to make a backup of the changed files for safety). ME1 has a habit of resetting its config files on startup. So when you run the game, it might be worth quickly alt-tabbing out of it and making sure that you config files have not been reset by the game.

Wrapped up the final Cristina memory in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and realized my calling it was soooo far off. Oh well. Also did one more scholar mission, but there turned out to be moar and well, can't be bothered really.
So started up Relevations. Then shut it down immediately because it flickered like mad. Managed to solve it by deleting systemdetection.dll.
Got up to memory block number 3 and so far having fair amount of fun. I don't like how they did the faces in this, since they've gotten a bit pudgy in contrast to the lovely sharpness they had before. So far controls are okay. Yusuf has bugged out twice, first he didn't accept that our enemies were dead, even if I picked them up and tossed them off the wall. Second time he refused to throw his cherry bomb then strutted into the group of guards being all proud of himself. So like, my faith in him isn't exactly the greatest. Also had the game freeze on me twice, first time it crashed and then I had to forcibly shut it down. So so far it's my buggiest game in the series. But otherwise it's fine so far.
Also a little bit of Minecraft. Got murdered by an Enderman and tossed way back at the first respawn point after a few hours of journeying the world, since we made a pit stop on the way to where we were, then broke the bed to take it with us. So that was fun.

As for why I booted her.....her voice is annoying, as are her comments, but the last straw for me was when she bitched about a cave (a cave, not a mine) being a gaping wound in Mother Earth. Uh, no, actually, caves are a naturally occurring thing, Jaheira, especially along the coast. Get over it.

Judging by the soundset, sounds like BG1. Best thing I did for her was take away her armor and weapons and let her fight a pack of kobolds by herself. She died splendidly.

Started building my Nuka World raider race track. It was slow going, some of the traps didn't trigger as I imagined. Then all the trap testing depleted my circuitry supply and I had to go buy some, only to realize that it's one of the few things only a couple of vendors sell in small quanitites. Great. Took me an hour just to get the timing right for the exploding truck. If only one automated gun shoots at it, it takes too long. If I use two it's fine if I set it off with a pressure plate way before the quad bike gets there. Three guns makes it explode too fast, however. Getting the race track to look good is going to take a while. In five hours I only managed to set up a few crude pieces. Once the track is set up I need to decorate it with raider stuff, like lots of fire and spikes and skulls, add bleachers, and an arcade and bar in the center...

It's been a long while since I updated progress on the FPS challenge. Last post I made I was struggling with Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
Well I eventually gave up on that game. I just wasn't enjoying it, and went straight to Half Life 2, which I blitzed through - it's one of those games I know so well that I could probably play it in my sleep.
There's been so much written about this game already that anything I write here is likely to be just a repetition of something that's already been said many times. I'll just mention one thing - Half Life 2 is unique in a way that is not often talked about; and that's the fact that it provides multiple opportunities to solve issues in very unconventional ways, go off the beaten track, or just do crazy, or elaborate things that were probably not originally intended by the developers. This is mainly due to the physics engine and the inclusion of the gravity gun.
Everyone knows that if you take Dog's ball through Ravenholm it can do all kinds of useful things; but it's also possible to 'rig' certain fights later in the game by manipulating physics. That Antlion Guardian battle in Nova Prospekt..... stack boxes and crates against the window, make a staircase, drop down.. then climb back up when the Guardian appears - then engage it from a position of complete safety in the room above.
You can do the same in Episode One's battle. The famous 'turret standoff' in Entanglement - Carry your original two turrets into the area of the second battle, build a staircase to reach the small office above - barricade yourself in, set up the turrets three inside, two outside as a distraction - and watch the Combine rush to their doom in single file, while you snipe them in comfort. I like to carry all five turrets into the final teleporter room and set up seven turrets in there for the final fight. The Combine don't have a prayer. There's other examples, but that will do for now.
Completed Episode One without issue, and same with Episode 2.
The only thing I actively dislike about HL2 is the final White Forest Strider battle in Episode 2. I loathe this encounter for the same reason I loathe most timed missions, race against the clock mechanics - or indeed anything that forces me to rush. I know some people love this fight, but I do not. I find it stressful and unpleasant. Still, I can finish it without any real problems, so I guess I can live with it.
After that Doom 3 beckoned as the next game in the challenge.

What can I say about Doom 3? It's such a long, long game, and the first section, once the initial thrill of the intro has dissipated tends to drag on a bit. The whole Alpha Labs section kind of outstays it's welcome in my opinion, and the ceaseless monster closets containing imps who leap out behind your back get's old pretty fast.
Once you get past this section though - starting with the Comms facility, the game really starts to pick up. New weapons become available, and the monsters become far more diverse. Best of all, the maps themselves become far more interesting to explore, the world seems to open out, and the tight, confining, dark tunnels of Alpha Labs are less frequent. Sure there's still monster closets and jump scares, but once you get used to them and come to expect them, they become less annoying.
One of the best sections, in my opinion is the reception area in Delta Labs. All through the game you've been teased with snippets of information about Delta Labs. The dangerous secret experiments taking place there, and the fact that the whole invasion seems to be spreading from there. Upon entering the place is silent and utterly dead. Bodies litter the ground, blood soaks the furniture and floor, and all power is out; save for dim, flickering emergency power. You can hear the demons from behind walls and locked doors, but cannot see them, save for the occasional fast-moving shadow in the corner of you eye. Nothing threatens you, nothing attacks you - but the sense of menace and of being not alone is tangible. They did such an amazing job of ramping up the atmosphere here. When you finally get the power on, machinery hums into life, monitors flicker on, systems reboot... and the demons become aware and you are now being hunted.
Doom 3's Hell section remains one of the most disturbing, and terrifying depictions of Hell that I have ever encountered in a game.
But there's one glaring flaw in my Doom 3 playthrough. I cannot defeat one of the bosses. It's the Guardian boss at the end of Hell - and I just can't kill the damned thing without cheating.
Oh I know what to do. I've read dozens of strategy guides, watched countless Youtube videos, but I seem unable to do it for myself. My reflexes are too slow, my positioning is off - and this is a fight that heavily relies upon fast reflexes and constant mobility. I'm very much a 'snipe carefully from cover' kind of player.
Basically you're in a roughly circular arena with various pillars and obstacles. You're chased by a huge, lumbering brute with a deadly melee attack, and some kind of ranged electrical attack. If you stop constantly running away it will kill you. The boss cannot be killed by shooting it. Instead you must wait for three hovering 'seekers' to spawn. Killing all three leaves the Guardian briefly vulnerable. You must shoot the portal he summons above him to spawn more seekers. This pattern must be repeated around four times.
My problem is avoiding The Guardian and shooting the Seekers at the same time. I'm not great at the kind of race forward..jump turn....fire....keep on racing forward... jump turn... fire kind of combat the encounter calls for. The Seekers are fast, flying and hard to hit, requiring a good aim - and doing so with that big brute on my heals is what defeats me. Thought I might succeed this time ...but no. In the end I had to put God Mode on in order to get past the boss. Oh well. Fortunately none of the other bosses cause me any problems at all.
Next up was Bioshock.

So, here's the list of games completed so far in the FPS Challenge:
Ultimate Doom Doom 2 Heretic Hexen Duke Nukem 3D Quake Hexen 2 Quake 2 Half Life/Opposing Force/Blue Shift Return To Castle Wolfenstein (partial playthrough) Half Life 2/Episode 1/Episode 2 Doom 3 Bioshock
Completed Bioshock last weekend, using almost a pure melee build.
Despite the sublime excellence of the game, it's environments, and story I've always felt there's something just a bit off about Bioshock's core shooting mechanics. The weapons seem strangely underpowered, something about the aiming and execution just seems not quite right, though it's hard to put my finger on precisely what it is.
It doesn't help that the enemies tend to be quite bullet-spongey. When a direct hit from a frag grenade fails to kill a human enemy (regardless of the fact that they are 'spliced up') you know that bullet sponge mechanics are at work.
So I like to focus on the humble wrench as my primary weapon. Once you've assigned the right tonics, done the proper research, put the points in, you'll be a literal killing machine with the wrench. Even Big Daddies - initially a terrifying and challenging enemy - become little more than disposable resources that you can use to replenish your health and supplies once you have the tonic that leaches life from foes with every wrench hit.
I love the underwater cityscape of Rapture. I love the art deco furnishings and construction. What's interesting about the environments is that the game is non-linear. This is quite a novelty in a 'modern' game. Since the late 90s the trend in level design to to make things increasingly linear, forcing the player along a set route. This makes things easier from a story-driven perspective, but Bioshock and Bioshock 2 have managed to do both. The player is free to explore the environments in any way they choose. There are huge, branching areas of the maps that are entirely optional, along with locked or secret areas which often require a lot of legwork to visit, but which always reward patient exploration - so yes, it's very easy to get lost in some of these environments. Arcadia is particularly notorious for it's rambling, rather confusing layout with endless side passages and hidden areas.
The only bit of the game I don't enjoy is the hacking minigame - which I find tedious and laborious in the extreme. It's a kind of timed plumbing simulator. strange as that may sound. I typically ignore the hacking, and either use autohack tools when available, or just shoot the turrets, cameras etc.
A man chooses, a slave obeys....
Next game: Bioshock 2. I'm already in the final quarter of the game, and enjoying every moment.
