Spent the weekend in Tamriel. Some impressions: I explored the tundra around Whiterun quite a bit. Here is a Mammoth in the morning. Little bit of dungeon diving. Did some bounty quests and cleared out some bandit hideuts. Made it down to the region of Falkreath, now hiking through the forest. Took my lunch break looking out over the lake: Exploring some old forts (after clearing out the highwaymen who set up shop there of course. Found this ice cave. The bones should probably have been a warning sign. But of course, I went in anyway. Inside I met this saber-tooth cat, which promptly killed me with two bites. So after reloading, I stayed away for now and rather explored more of the countryside. Bloody bandits, setting up camps all over the place. The sunset can cause beautifully colored skies. I found this cave, where sunlight (evening hues here) comes in from the ceiling and thus, an underground grove grew here. Camped out with some Imperials I found in their war camp. At some point I'll probably get involved in that whole civil war mess. More exploring of the countryside. ... and in some snowy caves. Ok, enough of that. it's time to finally fight my first dragon! Here, me and my buddies from the Whiterun city guard arrive at the tower where the beast has obviously been already. Didn't take long for him to show up. Uh ... I hope the Whiterun guards got issued some flame retardant armor or something... We finally killed the beast (and I sucked up its soul). The Greybeards summoned me, so it's time to climb this mountain. Getting a bright and early start in good weather conditions, as one should for a good climb. Impression from the path of the 7000 steps. And that's a far as I've gotten for now. I am completely sucked in by the incredible immersion of this game. Suffice it to say that I cannot wait to do all of this stuff on other planets in September.

I am having them do a case/cooler swap, a bigger case with more fans, plus a better cooler, so that will hopefully resolve the issue. No more pretty lights though. It's not a proper PC unless you run a 20% chance of it inducing an epileptic seizure, amirite? I had to sadly sacrifice fans and lights for a better case and PSU. Given the PC lives in it's own space under my desk it wasn't too much of a sacrifice.

So again frustratingly little done yesterday in ACOD. Kass and Myrinne headed to Lakonia and met with Brasidas outside their old home and got assigned tasks, met with a Kiing and got assigned tasks. Did two of the Kings tasks one was a hugely successful stealth effort, the other was a mostly failed stealth effort. The third one I usually get done with a stealthy arrow to the head of the target but not sure I am built for that this time around. Pic's The Old House Good to see Brasidas again A bit of a jump and then a swim

Played Braking poin t2 today on F1 23 cool little story must admit I liked Calli eand her detreminartion t osucceed despite both her dfad and brother Devon making it hard for her. It's mad eme think more about having Jamie Chadwick on my My Team career save as my teammate when I need to renew my teammate's contracts and all that. I can definitely see myself signing her up. Had m yfirst look a tthe Miami trasck too on the game. Kind of reminds me of the old Valencia track they raced in 2010-12

Presently in the get-zones-done before partying at Orleis.
I finished Crestwood and went to Hissing Wastes. Two oddities stood out for HW.
. no hunters . no pilgrim
The map is almost done but I didn't see any hunters or the pilgrim. I wonder why. Did I have to do something before going to HW? But then, I'm not doing anything different from the other PTs.

Pillars of EternityReached Caed Nua and picked up Kana Rua. I remembered him as a companion and that he was an explorer type but not what his class was or what his story was about. I like how excitable he is about learning new things and how he has a positive outlook most of the time. In an interaction he tried bringing a bit of levity to my Watcher-ness by telling me I'd make a killing as a travelling fortune-teller and I was sad when he thought I was upset about that remark because I chose the dialogue option that said "I'm glad you find this amusing." I didn't want to sound mean, Kana, I'm sorry. I suppose that's the risk you run with written dialogue, tone is hard to read. I also had a laugh at the realization that Kana is basically the Liara of this game with the Engwithens being the Protheans, when I started exploring Od Nua. This is not going to end well for him. Speaking of Od Nua, I had a vague memory of needing Durance for something while exploring and I now remember what - his high mechanics skill. Strangely, he is the one with the highest mechanics I have in the party. Had to leave Od Nua and continue to Defiance Bay to get more levels under his belt to level up that mechanics even more because I've started coming across locked chests and traps that he can't deal with. Got to Defiance Bay, picked up Sagani along the way, and had a run around Copperlane and did 2 quests. Most of the time I ran around staring at people's souls and here is where last night got a bit much because of it. I'm starting to see a pattern that I'm not sure I saw before, maybe I didn't interact with every NPC I could find or I didn't pick up on it or I just erased it from my memory. Who knows anymore from all those years ago? So many soul visions portray women in a not great light. Most I've come across have women be afraid, assaulted in some way, running away from something, being duplicitous, thieves, seductresses or cheaters. The last vision I saw was of a woman bleeding out on the floor of her own home from a wound in her stomach, in pain and whimpering, her assaulter coming into the room, shoving his fingers in her wound and torturing her until she passed out and, after getting up to leave her to continue bleeding out on the floor, spitting on her for good measure. No words were exchanged. Just the pain and suffering and humiliation of this poor woman, in visceral detail. Now, this wouldn't be bad in isolation. I also saw a vision of a dude fighting off an animal and he lost 3 fingers (one came clean off, while 2 were left hanging by a thread of flesh from his hand and, instead of cutting them off, he tore them off). The difference is that the visions portray the women as not having agency most of the time they're in danger, while the men fight off and half the time they live, if scarred. I think I remember 3 visions with women showing agency and not being outright victims (a couple getting apples thrown at them by a bigot and one of the women almost exploding him with magic, a woman on a ship being happy she was out at sea, a woman who saved someone from being beaten in the street). Out of these 3 visions, only the one with the woman on the ship was truly wholesome. The woman from the couple who wanted to explode the apple-throwing bigot wasn't allowed to show her true anger by having her partner calm her down and the woman who defended the person being beaten in the street was already hobbling and visibly injured before she even came across this display. To this I'll add the quest from the inn In Defiance Bay with the woman who was punched in the face for telling her fiancé's bad entourage to not come around their house anymore and later finding out that her fiancé was actually as drug dealer and he didn't plan on stopping, despite the fact it got him tortured and his fiancée assaulted. He was lucky they were both still alive but he still wanted to continue selling Svef. Damn right I told that woman the truth and to not go back to that scumbag. At least I had that agency myself. I know Sagani, Pallegina, and Grieving Mother are great characters. The nameless women peppered about the world who are present only in soul visions or quest givers/targets here and there, however, leave me a little sad that this is what they get. From that woman in Gilded Vale who had her lover murder her abusive husband by way of bear because no one in the village would help her, to the mothers exiled from Gilded Vale for birthing Hollwoborn children, to Raedric's own wife being killed by her husband for the same thing, to Aufra being afraid she'll be next and having no family she can readily go to for help anymore, to the many nameless women we don't even get to know outside of soul visions. I saw so many visions of men being giddy scholars and happy kids playing; I saw horrible ones for men, as well, true, but the proportion of the horrible ones for women is staggering, and even the ones with them fighting back show women not being triumphant most of the time, rather showing a futile fight. I really hope this pattern will change as the game progresses.

Aliens Dark Descent
I am still quite early in the game, but I like what I see. It's tense, scary and captures the "Alien" vibe really well. Of course I expect after a dozen hours for it to start getting repetitive, but the first steps are really well done. It's also a rather tough game even at a Normal difficulty.
It's a lot like X-com, but also with some unique differences. The biggest one being - you want to be stealthy. You don't want to engage in fights. Xenomorph kills don't grant you Experience (outside of rare events), so there is little benefit of engaging the aliens. Fighting a lot only makes the map more and more difficult, which makes it harder to reach your Objectives, which is what gives you Experience.
Another big difference is your marines. In X-com the soldiers quickly become Captain America levels of strong. But in this game they feel human from the first day and seem to remain as such even after some upgrades. They even start nerfed in different ways - like having bad eyesight, being a coward, undisciplined, etc. Their stress builds up through the mission and that affects their performance. The longer the mission, the more stressed the soldiers and thus they get less effective. You have to juggle your limited resources and the mental health of your marines. I think it captures quite well the vibe of James Cameron's "Aliens" movie.
I went with a more X-com approach on my first mission, fought any alien that got in my way and thought I am doing rather well. But my ammo went bust, my marines got stressed to the nine hells and the aliens became more and more aggressive in their hunt. I switched tactics midway, trying to reach my objectives and save more colonists. But eventually was forced to retreat with about 3 people still missing. Came back after a few days, found them, but they all were Xenomorph victims by that point. I wonder if my delay was the reason. Maybe next time I can save them in one attempt.
I really liked how each map remains as you left it. Upon your next return the items you left are still there, even if you have to fix some turrets. Gives a nice feel of continuity and extra long term tactical options. I began training two separate teams, hoping I can make a third one down the road. Team 1 will be scouting and logistics, exploring the map, setting sensors, mines, collecting resources, doing any non-combat objective it can. Team 2 will then go in with layout and item location knowledge, use the created choke points and mop up any combat that's required.
I enjoy the motion tracker. It's just like in the movies with the sound effects and all. Once you hear it, you know you are in trouble.
The game nicely captures another important bit from the movies - the technology edge and scarcity of resources. Under normal circumstances the marines should have all the tools to stomp the alien threat with just a few casualties. And you can see it in the game - set a motion sensor with a couple of turrets and the aliens are toast, create a mine trap and watch the carnage. Theoretically the marines should be equipped with everything to make each map a death trap for the aliens. But in the classic "Alien" theme, you are crash landed, alone, your toys are broken and you have to scavenge scrap. The best tools are expensive and you can rarely afford them.

Halo 1
What kind of developers put the most godawful racing track with the most godawful ground vehicle controls as the climax of their game? I tried twice and all I have to say is f*** *** devs!
Halo one start as entertaining, but it crash and burn in the end.
Anyhow, moving to Halo 2.

My time at SandrockRosa and Pen are now a thing, which is neat. So naturally Burgess and Miguel are sprouting the cutest lines. Curses. Things went crazy at Qi’s lab. First he asked for a tea maker to work faster and now they have cloned themselves for maximum efficiency! Granted it’s just lil glitch and the game froze as a result but got a good chuckle out of it. Ended up playing Duke instead. Plan for him is to befriend Grace and the Captain and to spar and win against all the sparrable villagers. So far part two is going pretty decent. Got the heavy hitters left but the weaker ones are down. Befriending is going so so, not in a terrible hurry there and trying to figure out who else should be in his friend net. Figure Justice will join and maybe Vivi and Hugo. Wish Pablo was available sooner since I want to see if another hairstyle will fit him better because Lukas looks so good with his hair so I want to swap it. And a pic of my three builders and their workshop names just for a laugh. First is Lukas with the Iron Horse, Rosa with Botanica and Duke with the Rusty Bucket. Legend of Heroes Trails From Zero So started chapter 3 today and think I'm 3/4 through it day wise. Lots of ground to cover trying to get the most dialog, so it went fairly slow. Had a blast though since there were a bunch of sweet moments between Lloyd and the gang. And lot's of funny moments with other characters. So that was super nice. Also found two areas I've been over looking so that made me cry a little. Not much since only one of them had a speaking character but still. Think I also missed some stuff on the third day since I didn't check again on the symposium and they hyped that one up quite a bit earlier in the day. Why you make so much content. I love it.

New expac announced today. With like zero warning. I haven't even done the post End of Dragon stuff on my Mechanist. So I went back and played my Charr Warrior a bit more, she's now at the last step of the Queen's Pavilion episode. It's a bit long and I'm almost at my bed time I'm going to keep that for tomorrow.

PC is ready - again - for pickup. I'll go get it tomorrow after work. Fingers crossed I can run a game for more than 5 minutes without the jetliner sound effects and fried circuits.
If it's really fixed, I'll have an awesome 4 day weekend. If not, well, we don't want to think about that.

Again not much done yesterday, finished Brasidas's tasks and got an audience with the Kings who gave Kassandra an assignment to go to Boeotia and win the war there. There she met up with Nikalaos, chose the options that will let Stentor Live, killed the Champions of Boeotia (had already killed two) and returned to Stentor and after some fiery exchanges Kass decided not to kill him. I so wanted to I really dislike him but did that last time. Visited Sargon and bought a Fiery Axe and changed some stuff up to give me more fire power. It works well against Mooks but in a sure sign the game sometimes gimps you in combat I had a hell of a time against a couple of Merc's. Could not get a CRIT to save my life (nearly died) and Crits against the Elite guys is a fort were taking 75+% of their health. And for some reason most enemies don't make a scratch of Kass with my engravings but these guys were taking enormous chunks out of Kass on any hits. I will admit I don't use Heavy weapons very often and I was not great with my attacks actually hitting. So anyway will stick with the Fiery Axe for a bit longer but a return to spears will be happening if the shenanigans continue. The other task set by the Kings was to escort the Pankrateon Champion to the Olympic's this quest was very funny the first time as were some of the side quests but they are a bit tedious 5th time around. Got the champion there, did a side quest and killed two poor excuses for fathers. Nect a tour with Barnabas. Strike a pose

Decided to see what Geralt was up to in my Death March run. Turns out, he was staging a play. Got through that and rescued Dandelion. Then made my way to Skellige.

At this rate all future Bioware games will be half done and modders need to rescue it for free.

The game pulls your strings and then destroys them at times, as hard as we hit the enemy:

ACV
So once again here we are...
And well pretty much finished the main game over the weekend. Played out the rest of the main story beats and dealt with the reprucussions of attacking the Saxons on the Holy Day of Christ Mass. Which fun enough story too Hundwald mentions has 'winter set in so soon'...and Christmas is in the winter...so oversight or different historical times? Should really take the time to look up this stuff.
Also found Ubba's death site...yikes I think they stuck him on several spears.
From there though went to go sack the final Monastary...
And dealt with Aelfred. Always have loved the final conversation between the two characters. Though it does speak to just the potential problems with the Templar ORder still started off but it does beg the question did Aelfred's initial stewardship of the Templar's be a little on the benign side and they were corrupted later or did his desire for order and control poison the well from the beginning? On that note to while I am not exactly a pagan myself...ugh religion is complicated but on a very surface level I am on more on Aelfred's side religiously then paganism or polytheism but it still makes my skin crawl to hear him talk about all that stuff. Which I do like the conversation he has with the woman who took him in but I know from the game's historical file and a few other things that A. he does not stay gone for long and B. quite obviously the Norse/ Guthram do convert eventually. Again trying not to get too much into real world issues and the Viking religion also had its issues with the whole love for battle thing...but its still sad.
Jedi Fallen Order
And it seems I also 'finished' this game! At least the main story. Man I feel like this was a very short game really with how much I got lost and how much time I spent being lost its still felt like it took me a very short time. Granted I also beelined the main story because trend of the day is seems games are really devoting themselves to having a main story only with only very...basic side questing. In this case only further exploration through maps I get easily lost in only to find cosmetics and other things. No thanks. Though I am vaguely aware I think me having only three stim packs at the end also means I likely missed some things but its not worth continuing on here.
Back tracking a bit in the game and in time because again, have trouble doing this on my weekends...got to Illum awhile ago and one of the neater segments of the game with Cal having character moments and the sequence where he calibrates the lightsaber is super cool.
From there rapid fire went to Dathmor, dealt with the fallen Jedi, recruited my sexy goth witch into the party...side note kind of weird how late in the game we actually get her in the party given...Jedi Survivor things...Then off to Bogano to get the Holocron, another fight with Trilla, Cal sees her past by touching her saber which Cere ends up using...onto the fortress Inquistorious...met Vader...ran from Vader... the end.
So quick review as with all of these things in Jedi Fallen Order. Gameplay was a very mixed bag. This has confirmed my knowledge that I would probably hate the Soulsborne games with just its try hard and trying to constantly get your XP back. Just no. Combat itself wasn't too horrible and there were times my random on Casual button mashing was turning into deliberate strategy. I think part of this was helped by me playing the game two days in a row but it certainly had its moments and it got really cool at times. On the flip side I'm not sure it was properly reactive. Pressing dodge button and not dodging, attack and not attacking, etc. And this game has a lot of simularities to the Force Unleased for me at least in my experiences with them because both really try hard games where I persistently pushed through my issues with them to finish. Just that this game has a much better cast, much better philosophical implications mostly, and a muuuucccchhh better story. Cal Kestis is also a much better non Gary Stu guy when compared to Starkiller...though Cere crushing Vader at the end did almost stray into that normal Star Wars trope of 'not giving into the dark side even though it could do some good'...and the fact that she had the power to do that to Vader was interesting. But then of course I am still coming to terms with the Dark Side being a hell of a drug.
In the end though finished and deleted it off my hard drive. In a weird way and something to consider for games going forward because of its length I could oddly see me giving this a second playthrough despite its ultimate rating one day because theere is some interesting things here. But in the end, high end Tier 4.

BandCamp Boyfriend
When I played the demo, I was thinking--- well, slice of life games aren't really my thing. But I have an interest in supporting other people's hard work on indie visual novels and Poptart seemed cute, so I bought it when it came out. I thought Poptart would be similar to a character in another vn I'd played, Mystic MEssenger. In MysMes, Yoosung was a video game obsessed cry baby that I felt like I wanted to defend, and he was that, but by the end of MysMEs he was being super brave. Yoosung impressed me a lot, and Poptart reminded me of Yoosung.
Unfortunately, the severe problems Poptart has, a psychotic break at least once where he killed the Band Director and the character you're playing, cannot be fixed with a few kisses. I mean, the good end he gets talked out of a double murder. But just the fact that he's that capable of it? I honestly feel like the ending should have them putting a pause on a relationship and him going to serious therapy. It was neat to see the game had a very serious twist at the end at the least, taking it beyond a slide of life. Overall this route did not go as expected and that was bad thing.

Been playing the Women's World Cup update on Fifa 23. I must sa ytha tdespite the lack of official stadiums just like with the Qatar tournament with the mens they did a good job. My only criticism is it doesn't allow yo uto customise the tournament as in shuffle th eteams into different groups and such t omix the draw up. I think outsid eof that they did an OK job as it looks and plays nicely.

I've also been playing a bit more Divinity: Original Sin 2, lately. I am trying to get a handle on Larian and turn based games (which I have almost no experience with) before BG3 releases. For those who have played both DOS2 and BG3 Early Access - is DOS2 a worthwhile exercise to familiarise myself? Regardless, it is definitely a worthwhile experience in its own right. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live on Rivellon, but from a gaming perspective it is an interesting and beautifully realised place. I am - very, very slowly - coming to grips with the mechanics of combat, though I am sure I should be making better use of scrolls and crafting, but the recipes I have are all very low level. I spent almost 90 minutes on Tuesday night tidying and rearranging the action bars of my party. 5 levels of action bar...! Working as intended. In terms of what I am up to; I've unlocked a 3rd Source point and discovered the location of the Council of 7. Thinking I might spend a bit of time mopping up side quests before progressing, though - the number of active quests in the journal is very triggering

For those who have played both DOS2 and BG3 Early Access - is DOS2 a worthwhile exercise to familiarise myself? It will help, but the combat is different. In both games you can use the environment about the same way. The issue with DOS2 is that every enemy has physical and magical health bars. So a mixed party would be inefficient since you need to get rid of just one of those bars, not both. Hence your group should be either entirely physical or entirely magical focused. In BG3 there is no such issue. The classes and leveling is quite different. Every class in DOS2 can and usually does become proficient in many different areas. In BG3 there is a bigger focus on specializing in a few skills.
