I just finished Brotherhood's main story, although I have other things to clear around Rome. Lots of things, actually. When I started sequence 8, I didn't know there wouldn't be an opportunity to exit the main missions and go back to roaming. I found I actually enjoyed going back to the modern world to see Desmond. Now I have two more games to get even more attached to him before he dies on me Valhalla spoiler: And I guess "the sixth" that Juno told him to go find is Layla? Something about them going through the door together, since we hear his voice at the end of Valhalla? Or am I going to meet someone else in the next two games? Anyway, Desmond >>>>>>>> Layla But now I can't pinpoint what my problem with Layla is. Desmond was driven/compelled to kill just like Layla was, and I have yet to see if he shows remorse. Maybe Layla's compulsion was less believable than Desmond's. Even though my own key presses technically killed Lucy. I'm currently still waiting for the longest credits in the world to roll so I can go clear the last Borgia tower and finish levelling up my minions. I think Layla was actually being controlled or effected by the staff, Desmond had full control of the Apple of Eden and he only killed bad people. His killing of Lucy was because she had joined the Templar's I thought. Desmond was way fun to play, he had a great personality and some of his missions were really fun. Layla was terrible personality wise and her missions were pretty boring. I won't comment on whether he shows regret/remorse because SPOILER.

His killing of Lucy was because she had joined the Templar's I thought. Dunno. The game ends on a scene of Lucy collapsing dead and Desmond unconscious, and after the credits it dumps you back with Ezio so you can finish up whatever, so the modern story is definitely on a cliffhanger. Desmond seemed to be trying to resist killing Lucy, and I thought she defected back to the Assassins, but I guess she was just pretending? I guess I'll see when I start the next game? Since I at least want to finish upgrading all of Rome, get the last Borgia tower, and upgrade the minions as much as possible, it will be at least a few days until I start Revelations. I can't wait to see what sort of disaster forces me back to starting gear this time

Desmond killed Lucy because Juno took control of him. Unlike Layla who did it because Victoria tried stopping her getting her next fix (later made it seem like the staff affected her but that was not what was shown in FoA).

Layla was terrible personality wise and her missions were pretty boring. I won't comment on whether he shows regret/remorse because SPOILER. The Apple has no Isu personality imbued in it. As such, Desmond did not have much trouble controlling / using it. The Staff however is different. In Odyssey, it's inexplicable why Layla would kill Victoria. Then, I thought she had gone nuts. The only explanation then was that having such power went to her head / she could not mesh properly with the staff. In Valhalla, her distrust of the staff is plainly seen. She did not handle it in the same way as Kassandra who clearly had made it part of herself. She avoided touching it until it became necessary. The reason why she went nuts in Odyssey became clear later. It was all part of another Isu plan. Alethia allowed Kassandra to wield it at will because she was to be the courier until the staff could be handed to Layla. Layla is the one who will see Alethia's plan with her husband succeed. Hence, Alethia deliberately influenced Layla that she became unhinged and lashed out at Victoria, killing her friend. Feeling guilty and remorseful, Layla refused to touch / use the Staff. She suspected it had compelled her to kill which was why whenever she looked at the Staff, her gaze was hostile / distrustful. By failing to maintain contact with the Staff like Kassandra, she did not gain any control over it which is part of Alethia's plan. I had constantly thought that Kassandra went too soon at the end of Odyssey. I've said it before; why didn't she stick around a bit longer to advise Layla before handing the staff over? What the Staff could do etc. She had over two thousand years of experience too. There was so much she could convey to Layla but it seemed like she couldn't wait to hand it over. Her behaviour and reaction was one of relief, a burden lifted from her. I was sad and yet could understand why she relinquished it so fast. But then, I had another thought after finishing Valhalla. What if Alethia had exerted pressure on Kassandra? Not straight out speaking to her but subtly exerting mental oppression that Kassandra could only think of handing the Staff over.

I just started Revelations, and Desmond looks like a completely different person Edit: So does Ezio. They appear to have changed the face model in some way, more than just an improvement in graphics and aging Ezio.

I'm on my first tomb in Revelations (the one inside the book shop). I'm not liking the modern day "story" so far, especially after liking Brotherhood's so much. Desmond's face being different throws me off more than Ezio's face being different, and I miss the interactions with Shaun and Rebecca. Is the whole modern section of this game going to be just listening to a few lines from disembodied voices, rantings from 16, and Desmond walking into the glowing force field? I went to read the first few pages of this thread, and discovered that years ago, I'd posted on page 2. I don't remember that at all. It's from when I first started playing Syndicate, which I abandoned to play MEA. I'm glad I ended up going back to finish it.

Ugh. So much for enjoying the modern story. Yeah, the MD for this one is just Desmond as he’s in his coma. I think at the very end he wakes up. But it’s definitely more a final story for Ezio and Altair.

Is it just me, or is Revelations ridiculously short? I'll be finishing it tonight. I've been skipping most of the den master missions though, maybe that's why? I'm leveling my recruits up to level 10, but then not bothering to actually assign them anywhere.

Aaaaaand done with Revelations. I don't think I've ever finished a game that fast, aside from Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. I loved the ending, especially Ezio's speech about "who are we to be able to communicate across centuries." That sense of connection is largely missing from the newer games, I think.
I also just watched Embers on YouTube. I wish there was a full game with Shao Jun as the protagonist. She seems like she'd be interesting to play.
Time to start AC3. I'm not too keen on the setting, but I look forward to finishing Desmond's story.

I was initially intrigued about playing a native American character and hopefully learning something about the culture. When the game started as Haytham I was like WTF?????. But yeah he is pretty cool and the story is a good one I think with some good characters in it. I really like Connor, he's a bit of a downer but given his life well its sort if understandable. I also like the American War of Independence history as I studied it at school. It's fun to play as a Templar for part of it and the familial connection to AC4:BF is pretty cool when you play it. The hunting is fun, the Homestead is fun as are the homesteaders, the QTE's are a bit of a pain though. There is also some sailing/ship missions which is great practice for BF. I hope you enjoy it.

I also like the Civil War history as I studied it at school. The American Revolution? Or does this game cover a much longer timespan than I thought? (Civil War was 1861-1865.) It's fun to play as a Templar for part of it and the familial connection to AC4:BF is pretty cool when you play it. I hadn't been planning on playing BF because I hated the ship battles in Odyssey so much, but then I made the mistake of watching some kind of "best Edward Kenway" moments video on YouTube, and now I kind of want to play it just to experience him He seems like quite the character. It is fun playing as a Templar for once, although I hated watching that Assassin ship sink in the beginning of the game. Also, Haytham seems to have some kind of Freemason symbol on his cloak, too. Or am I reading too much into it? I did a few of the first missions, and now I'm just roaming Boston. They actually did a really good job making it feel alive. Also, Desmond's dad sure is a dick.

Maybe she'll show up if we get a game in China as a Mentor or something. 3 is one of the best games in the franchise without question. Haytham and Connor are great, the Templars are super grey instead of cartoon villains like the Ezio Trilogy (to the point they're on par with Assassins), etc.

William is a dick indeed but he mellows as the game goes on. Some fun climbing puzzles in the temple and some fun climbing for Desmond in general in some of the MD missions IIRC. Edward Kenway is my equal favourite AC protagonist with Kassandra and Black Flag is still probably my favourite AC game. The sailing at the start will be a bit of a challenge but you'll get it pretty quickly and I just loved sailing around just for the hell of it exploring etc. Combat takes a bit to really get the hang of it but once your ship gets some decent upgrades you'll be a legend of the sea. There are also a lot of great NPC's you get to share the story with as well. I watched a documentary just recently called "Pirate Island" which was about the exact same period which was interesting if a bit dry. The game does a good job with the characters and what actually happened historically. Yeah exploring Boston and NY is great but I also really enjoyed the frontier areas as well.

Since for me Assassin's Creed 3 is probably the worst game in the franchise. It until Origins it was the only AC game I never replayed or even had the desire not to have a replay. Don't get me wrong there are some good elements in the game, but the things I didn't like, I really didn't like.

The only thing I never completed every time were the secret tunnels under NY and Boston, they were just a nightmare especially with some of the PC issues with controls and jumping angles.

It is funny how different things impact people differently. Since for me Assassin's Creed 3 is probably the worst game in the franchise. It until Origins it was the only AC game I never replayed or even had the desire not to have a replay. Don't get me wrong there are some good elements in the game, but the things I didn't like, I really didn't like. I think I replayed it 3 maybe 4 times. The only thing I never completed every time were the secret tunnels under NY and Boston, they were just a nightmare especially with some of the PC issues with controls and jumping angles. I'm in sequence 3 and I haven't discovered any tunnels. Am I not looking hard enough, or do they not become available until later?
