The games are definitely getting too long, in my opinion.
Odyssey did a better job of keeping me engaged, while Valhalla made the positive step of cutting repetitive gameplay loops. (Kill all the soldiers in this random camp, who are just doing a job, in order to get a check mark on your map. WTH?)
Valhalla is as long at release as Odyssey was after two expansive DLC stories. The games are getting way too long. I replay games many times, and tend to enjoy long games; but I enjoy good stories more. I'd prefer they focus on telling a good story and then build the game that fits that. Valhalla's story is fine, but did it really require 150+ hours? No way.
There are signs of silly bloat all over the game. We have the travel-assist-alliance loop repeated too many times by the end. We have a Roman Museum in our tiny Norse thorpe. Why?!? Well, we needed place to tie into those Roman collectibles. Why have those particular collectibles? It's an Ubi game. They have terrible judgment in regard to collectibles.
I like this game, and I'm still playing it. I even want more content. That doesn't mean I think all the existing content is good, though. There was some filler in there that could easily be cut without hurting the game. I'd argue that it might be improved.
As to new settings, I've been wanting Asian settings for years. Some here know that I'm into Chinese history. There are lots of settings therein that could be great. South Asia, India included, has tons of history that could be used to build great AC stories.
I would also like to see the Hundred Years War setting I'd read about recently, but only if they build it with much more historical fidelity than recent games. At some point, these fantasy elements gotta go, or be toned down by orders of magnitude. Spin them off into their own new IP. I'd play both.

Totally agree re size of the game and with all the open world games of late the stories have not improved because of it in fact most have become disjointed because of it. Story needs to be more of the focus maybe it needs to be centralised within a smaller area of a larger map and then DLC can occur in the rest of the map or it can just be there to go explore independent of the story.

Kinda curious if Ubisoft will settle in with the open world RPG setup they've got going with their more recent games, or if they'll give the series another shakeup. Personally, I think they could get away with shortening the campaign and reducing the game space size. The games would likely still sell. When I finished Valhalla I think Xbox Achievements had the percentage at roughly 6% acquisition. I know that's not indicative of all players, but that's kinda abysmal that two months later, only 6% of people finished your game. This reminds me...I still need to finish ACV! I stopped playing because of the bugs and never got back to finish it after the patches.

It's like this is another place you can always return to. I actually only finished Odyssey's main story arc last year a few months before Valhalla was released (still have some DLC's to play). I'm a completionist so it takes forever for me to get through the story but like I said I actually don't mind that. I still also haven't finished my playthrough of Witcher 3 which I started 2-3 years ago (and never finished Skyrim but that's because I gave up on the game after accidentally deleting my 200 hours + save file). It's unlike any other form of entertainment. With movies and books you just watch them in one go and then the story is over. Or with most short single-player games. But these long RPG's are my favorites because like I said you can always return to these different worlds and characters and continue the adventure. It's fun.

But these long RPG's are my favorites because like I said you can always return to these different worlds and characters and continue the adventure. It's fun. I'm a completionist, too. My health has left me with a lot more time to sit on my ass and play than most. I completed Odyssey 6 or 7 times, all 100%. That's over 1000 hours. 😳 I'm already approaching 400 hours in Valhalla, with 2 100% playthroughs, and a bunch of post-game mucking around, hoping for new content. I enjoy long games more than many, I imagine. Info think the stories have suffered, though. AC games, Mass Effect, etc... were all fine for me when they were 30 hours or less per game. I don't think the extra size and content has made them better. TW3 was phenomenally huge. I love the characters, the series and the game. I did not get to replay the game in its final, fully expanded form. Maybe eventually.

Well, Middle East and India were mentioned as well. The support for Valhalla is stretched out for 2021. Content 2 - 4 slated to drop in spring, summer and fall. The plausibility is that the next AC wouldn't drop until 2023 so they're delaying the additional Valhalla content.

Agree with the first video after finishing the game there is just really nothing to do. I am glad he raised the armour differences, it is almost incomprehensible that they moved away from Odyssey's system and same with the weapons and rune system etc. It was so much fun to collect and mix and match gear to build different playing types etc. The other thing for me is obviously the environment, the different locations and there environs in Odyssey even though they were mostly Islands for me made such a big difference to even just exploring. England is pretty same old same old wherever you go except where they add snow. I am still not sure where the love comes from for Valhalla and especially it's combat TBH. I'ts not bad but I found ACOD's combat far more fun and dynamic and just watching videos of Kassandra in ACOD made me miss her a lot. Anyway Valhalla is pretty much on hold for me now after not playing much lately and I am also not going to be able to play for 3 whole days later in the week I have just decided to stop after this afternoons daily quest. I really just can't believe there is just nothing else to do and even mucking around with armour is mainly to change the look rather than to make a new build.

Yeah the post game in Valhalla doesn't hold a candle to Odyssey. Neither does the gear system. I can't understand why they didn't just port that shit straight over. The contracts are the same 2 or 3 uninspired tasks. I still feel the dev cycle for Valhalla was cut short because it's not as ambitious in scope as Odyssey was. The biggest let down for me are the raids. They should be WAY more intense and epic, on par with the faction battles in Odyssey. I'm really hoping the raid mode brings that back.

LOL I think you are most likely right, compared to Odyssey Valhalla is a shell of the game Odyssey was in terms of in-game content and being a finished product. Hell I probably had 2 or 3 crashes with Odyssey in 800+ hours of playing with Valhalla I have at least two a day.

I didn't have the impression that many people played the game based on online talk. It really surprises me TBH, maybe it is purely pandemic related. Do you know what ACOD numbers are compared too Vlahalla? Unfortunately we don't have any hard numbers on Valhalla at all, and only rough ideas for Odyssey & Origins.

Now, I'm on ps4 pro. Ironically, I've had the exact opposite experience. The weird thing is it is never anything really intensive for anything. One thing I have discovered is that if the game is doing an auto save and I do a quick save it can crash the game. I think it's a timing thing as it doesn't always happen. Another is that taking a screenshot at some certain point will also crash the game, it really doesn't like you doing it in cut scenes. However the most predominant crashes are completely random. It makes it a bit more intense when you are 90% through a big fort or something and so I have started exiting mid quest or whatever activity I am doing and quick saving then finishing it so I don't lose progress.
