Bioware dropped the ball on a pretty good idea.
See, if you use the default names for your ryder, Scott and Sara sometimes NPCs will call you by that name instead of just 'Ryder' all the time. Now this is where I see a wasted opportunity, since they could have done what Bethesda did for Fallout 4 and allow you to have your name said in game, granted it was for one character but still, if Bioware had done this it would have added another dose of immersion to have characters say your characters name in conervsation.

Unless the character in question was a robot that Bioware could program to try to pronounce the name, it would be impossible. The voice actors would still be recording dialog to this day to account for all possible names players would choose.
Not to mention how would it handle foreign names where the pronunciation is different than it would be in the US? Or names with two different pronunciations? Jean as in Jean Gray from X-Men. Or Jean and is Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek. How would the system know which Jean the player wanted for pronunciation.

Trust me, I am under no illusion that Bioware would be able to account for every single name in existence or if they are pronounced as intended by the player but maybe giving use a list of more-or-less popular names to use.

Fallout can go bollocks, apparently the name Kyle isn't good enough for the list. I did like the idea of other characters calling you Scott though in Mass Effect so I kept the name instead of usually going with my own.

Only if the money and time needed for that wouldn't detract from other parts of the game. And given the issues the game had and what we know about the time and money, I don't think they had any money or time to spare to allow for more than 4 sets of dialog recording (male Ryder, female Ryder, Scott Ryder, Sara Ryder) for any given conversation.

Even in FO4 them saying the name was only once or twice right at the begining. Not like they used it throughout the game. I kinda liked in MEA the npc's being able to refer to me by name instead of title or only last name.
